Hazel Lancaster is introduced as a clinically depressed cancer patient, letting us know that she’s cursed with a shortened life from the start. However, when she meets Augustus Waters at support group, her state seems to take a turn for the better. Together, the two of them embark on the adventure of their ephemeral lives, encountering everything from love, loss, life, and heartbreak along the way. That being said, for our ‘free choice’ we decided to make a model of Philip, Hazel’s oxygen concentrator. According to Hazel, it’s called this because "it just kind of looked like a Philip," as said on page 39. The concentrator is described as large and rectangular, constantly delivering oxygen to Hazel, which is needed because of her stage
The depiction of Hazel's Essex parallels to Hazel's distraught state: he progressing in finding himself but not without a difficult struggle. On the first drive after
Firstly, within the novel, it is clear that Hazel is a caring person and is fully aware of what her body’s condition does to her
The project aim was to propose the adaptation of a humidification device to offer comfort to patients who are on high flow oxygen therapy; and to provide in-service trainings to clinical staff. Fisher & Paykel humidifiers were chosen in the proposal as the company provides excellent support for staff; and my past experience has assured me that the equipment is reliable and simple to use for nurses.
Augustus realizes that a lot of people let their cancer identify them, which it seems at first like Hazel does. Through the novel Augustus mentions multiple times how he wants his life to mean something other than cancer. “I fear that I won’t be able to give anything in exchange for my life. If you don’t live a life in service of a greater good, you’ve gotta
- The next day, Hazel goes to visit Augustus while his doing his cancer treatment
Hazel grace is a dynamic character because she changes throughout the story. In the beginning, Hazel doesn’t want to get close to Augustus, because she was afraid he is going to be shattered when she dies. But towards the ending, hazel finds out it doesn’t matter if you die in the middle of a relationship, it’s about the moments you spend together. A quote in the book, on page 214, “Only now that I loved a grenade did I understand the foolishness of trying to save others from my own impending fragmentation: I couldn’t unlove Augustus Waters. And I didn’t want to.”
The protagonist and narrator in The Fault in our Stars is Hazel Grace Lancaster. Hazel is not a typical teenage girl, she is terminally ill. Hazel has lung cancer. Hazel is a very interesting person as she seems to keep people at a distance because she feels that if she keeps people close, they will be more damaged and in other words hurt by her death. She always seems depressed but who blames her, she has to carry an oxygen tank around with her, and can’t be a normal teenager. I think she has depression because she has cancer, but she believes that depression is a side effect of dying. She always thinks very deeply about life and death. But through meeting Augustus another very important character, her perspective on life and death has changed.
No matter how old you are, you might know what It feels like to lose a loved one. Hazel Grace has never been anything but terminal, until she meets Augustus Waters, and that’s when her story is about to be completely rewritten. The novel is an emotional roller coaster dealing with first loves, terminal illnesses, secrets, passion and trust. In the novel, The Fault In Our Stars, Hazel Grace must go through what any person with a terminal disease must go through and beyond that: overcoming a terminal disease, love, and fear.
It's really strong and ambitious to control the disease rather than the disease control them for the fact that they are open rather than close and Augustus really brings that out of Hazel because she was loner and love to stay in the house. Once
Augustus makes an impact on Hazel’s life. Augustus and Hazel meet at Support Group and grow a close bond. Augustus and Hazel fall deeply in love throughout the story. When Augustus’ cancer sprung up again, he asked Hazel to write him an eulogy. In Hazel’s eulogy she says, “My name is Hazel. Augustus Waters was the great star-crossed love of my life. Ours was an epic love story, and I won’t be able to get more than a sentence into it without disappearing into a puddle of tears”(Green 259). This shows that when Augustus dies he will leave a (mental) scar on Hazel, because Hazel will deeply miss Augustus when he dies. Augustus transformed Hazel
Interestingly, Augustus got in contact with a charity that gives cancer kids a wish. Augustus decided to use his for the two of them to go on a trip to Amsterdam to meet Peter and Lidewij. In the midst of this, Hazel painfully experiences her lungs filling up with fluid causing her to be rushed to the hospital. She lives, however her personal doctors say she isn’t healthy enough to go to Amsterdam. During one of her cancer meetings, one of her doctors, Dr. Maria, says that Hazel should live her life, convincing

He shapes this story around the form of a teenage girl named Hazel Lancaster, who believes that her terminal lung cancer is simply a ‘side effect of dying’. Hazel has undergone various treatments since she was a child, but she knows that death could be at the next traffic lights. She stumbles upon Augustus Waters one day, who introduces her into a world of initial frustration, which consequently develops into mutual understanding. The two spend many days and experiences together, bonding over quick witted remarks and their common circumstances, eventually blossoming into young love.

At first, Hazel and Gus were merely acquaintances. In the first chapter, where they meet, Hazel is only mildly interested in Augustus’ “metaphoric resonances”. When he puts a cigarette into his mouth, Hazel is thoroughly disgusted and she feels that “there is always a harmatia”, which shows that she is repulsed by his behaviour upon their first meeting. As the plot develops, they become much closer friends, as seen from Augustus regularly inviting her to his house and finding common interests in her book, talking about the book and often quoting from the book in their conversations, for instance: ‘Augustus nodded at
