Do to the size and nature of HCA company complexity and immense information system, it’s vital for HCA to have an operating system that will enable them to operate efficiently and effectively. HCA’s current information system has several strengths but also has several weaknesses and noticeable areas of needed improvement. Strengths Some Information System strengths that were easily noticeable were in the people (employee and customers/patients) service area of the OS. What stood out the most was the user friendliness and the accessibility people (patient and staff) have to their personal informational. Some features the information system has includes; the PACIS/NextGen which connects patient with their physician and pharmacist via online.
In order for an organization to be able to have an efficient and successful organization the proper Information Technology system (IT) must be in place, this document will demonstrate what system is in place to make sure system is running successfully.
The "Duke University Medical Center" (2005) website defines “quality improvement as a formal approach to the analysis of performance and systematic efforts for improvement”. Quality improvement programs are found in a variety of industries and are constructed differently. The medical field tends to use quality management to focus on patient and staff safety, reducing medical errors, and avoiding or decreasing morbidity and mortality rates. Health care organizations have been attempting to improve the quality of care for as long as “the nineteenth-century when obstetrician, Ignaz Semmelweis introduced hand washing to medical care, and Florence Nightingale who determined
The Pyxis system simplifies the inventory, stocking, ordering and distribution of medications through the use of information systems.
Integration will lead to superior diagnoses as doctors will have access to medical records from across the country, enabling them to draw on the diagnoses of other doctors facing similar situations. It will also allow for seamless care as records for the same patients will be instantly accessible and fully up to date wherever they go. The application layer will be standardized, with a consumer-facing mobile and web application and a doctor-facing web portal. While the way care is administered differs from hospital to hospital and clinic to clinic, what a practitioner needs from an IT solution will remain relatively constant.
The system in place in the office setting is relatively new. However, they have been able to accomplish many beneficial features to optimize patient care. The system is connected to a larger network of providers and hospitals. This integration allowed for steam lined communication
The Web Portal could also be expanded to provide outside vendor services such as, Just in Time pharmaceutical replenishment and inventory updates. Just in Time pharmaceutical replenishment will allow the hospital to automatically replenish stock and optimize inventory. The hospital will have to grant access to its database to companies similar to Just in Time, but the rewards for the hospital will be phenomenal. The hospital can cross references the prescription company’s database to ensure that no other medication the patient is taking will have complications for the patients or adverse effects. The system could also recommend alternatives to the prescribe medications to even further
These systems will also help cut down on medication errors by comparing the patient’s to medications or interventions so that it is given to the correct patient. Also documents the care given so there would be no human error in the case of questioning whether care had been given as long as the caregiver documents in the record. These features of the electronic health record are in place to promote patient safety by reducing errors.
“The Medical KM is used by doctors and nurses to access online medical databases to assist in patient diagnosis and drug administration.” (Apollo Group Inc., 2013) As stated this information system is web deployed and links not only to internal databases for patient medical records, charts, etc., but connects to external databases that contain the same types of information.
Communication is the key in a health care field and having patient portals has increased information sharing between physician, nurses and patients. Patient portal is software that allows patients to get access to their own electronic medical record in a secure, efficient and easy to use program. Patient portals offer updated list of medications, diagnosis, allergies, lab results, patient history and more. Patients have access to their portals, which allows them to keep themselves up to date on not only their history but new information that doctors and nurses have given them. Also, having access to their portal allows them to keep updated information such as, discharge instructions for better care. This eliminates the time the nurses would spend on phone tag. It is a secure online software that provides patients with privacy and own username and password.
“Athenahealth is a Watertown, Massachusetts-based developer of Web-based electronic health record (EHR), electronic medical billing and medical practice management software for small and medium-sized physician’s offices.”(athenahealth, 2009-2016). With all those programs and software’s included the physician and associates can accomplish sending and receiving information from one person to another. It can be used through a large wide selection of physicians as well with patient’s records.
For my graded unit HNC beauty therapy, I was required to carry out a project for a practical assessment for two different clients for facial and body treatments. I had to complete two consecutive face and body multiple treatment packages in one morning, one hour 30 minutes each client. I had to carry out and plan each treatment appropriately for each client’s aims and needs. I had to use six different electrical equipment on the client’s as well as add on treatments. On the face, I had to use cleansers, toners, moisturisers, brush cleanser, masks, massage, steam, high frequency direct, galvanic, vacuum suction, faradic and any extras, on the body I can use manual massage, audio sonic, faradic, vacuum suction, galvanic, infra-red, body
System is very easy to use and covers many Radiology and Pharmacy procedures and treatments across United states
This feature links patient portals and EHRs to consumer health information (Medline Plus, 2015). For example, MedlinePlus Connect is a free service of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that offers an added benefit to the provider-patient relationship as an authoritative up-to-date health information resource for providers, their patients, and their families (Medline Plus, 2015). Implementing MedlinePlus is a one-time effort, doesn’t require registration, and can be configured to link to more than one source of consumer health information (Medline Plus, 2015). Medline Plus links both health care, drug, and lab data results through medication codes, and an EMR/EHR system that has the capacity to use Medline Plus is a great asset in helping the practice achieve one of the criteria’s for meaningful
It is important to understand that patients are very satisfied with electronic health systems. For example, patients see a vast improvement in the speed at which they are being seen when they go their doctors’ office. Patients no longer have to wait on their physicians for hours due to the fact that their information can be readily available to their physicians when they come to see them. Moreover, all their information is transparent to their health care provider since all their data is in electronic form.
An information system is a base in today’s business world. Everything is electronic. In various businesses, the survival and ability to succeed strategic business goals is challenging without extensive use of information system. Businesses improve the efficiency of their operations in order to accomplish higher profitablity. Besides that, information systems are important tools available to managers for achieving higher levels of efficiency and productiviy in business operations. For an example, Zara uses the PDA technology to gather customer feedback and input.
