Hi, dear class director, thank you for letting us participate in the recent health fair. I just received your evaluation saying students forced to work the extra hours and complained about it the whole time regarding the health fair that was held on March, 31st 2018. I have to disagree with your evaluation because as you know we were short on students in some areas of the health fair and we had to step up and cover where our help was needed more. I believe all of the students including my self, did a good job and the students deserve a pat on the back, and maybe they deserve a soaring eagle as a reward won't be that bad too. In spite of being a student with not much of experience and new to this sort of project, I think everybody did very well
This city of Port Orange is located in Central Florida, in Volusia County. Dr Milton Hawks arrived during what was actually the second wave of settlers to explore what is now known as Port Orange. Port Orange is a beautiful city on the East Coast of Florida, home of the World’s most famous beach. With average temperatures in the 80-90s in the summer, many Port Orange residents enjoy the
This author’s personal perceptions concerning patients facing a lingering terminal illness, have been shaped by over 20 years of critical care nursing experience. Facing death and illness on a daily basis requires self-examination and a high degree of comfort with one’s own mortality, limits and values. Constant exposure to the fragility of life forces respect for the whole person and the people who love them. A general approach to patients who are actively dying is to allow them to define what they want and need during this time. The nurse’s role
Measles was discovered in the 19th century by a Persian Doctor, but was not recognized until 1957 as an infectious agent in human blood by a Scottish physician. In 1912 measles became a notifiable disease and in the first decade that records were kept there was on average 6,000 deaths per year reported from the disease. (Center For Disease Control). There is no definite origination of measles but scientists believe that it dates back to the Roman Empire about the 11th and 12th century (NCBI, 2010). The first outbreak known in America was in 1657 in Boston,
Every year the step team does a performance during the Health Fair. This year we wanted to try something different, so we decided to teach steps to children from the area. Most of our steps are elite and very tedious to learn so we had to figure out what steps would be appropriate to teach without the children losing interest. Originally, we started with three kids who are siblings of one of my teammates. Later on in the day, after the drill team performed, some of drill team members came over to learn a couple of step moves, along with a couple of girls from the dancing school.

Light Health Wellness Comprehensive Services Inc established in 1988 by founder Debbie Rock. This young lady in 1988 seen that individuals with HIV/ AIDS, substance abuse, mental illness, low income and other long term health challenges needing assistance in getting information, guidance and treatment services. A group of people that may have been neglected or ignored by other social services and the community due to the stigma that came along with these conditions and challenges. Many people living with HIV/AIDS were shunned by family members. In the 1980s most people thought that HIV/AIDS was a gay community problem. Many gay men suffered from HIV related stigma and prejudice. Ms. Rock not only wanted to serve this population of people but she wanted to help educate families and those affected by these individuals. This gave her a great opportunity to make use of her human service skills. She wanted to make an impact on the individuals and also the public around it. This would open up many doors and also teach people within the community who probably would ostracized these individuals how to effectively deal with them and how to help them make it through everyday challenges.
In the United States we are very fortunate. For the most part we do not live in fear of disease outbreaks from day to day. Our government along with the Centers for Disease Control and Public Health Departments have managed to have adults and children vaccinated and set up recommendations regarding those vaccinations. Despite all that is done our country allows freedoms. One of these freedoms is to not vaccinate your child from communicable diseases due to personal beliefs. With the worlds populations becoming more mobile, that sets your child up for dangerous encounters; because some countries are not as strict on laws regarding vaccinations and some
I really like your improvement project topic because it brings attention to the fact that although electronic health records are beneficial to advancing healthcare, when used inappropriately or ignored it can lead to patient harm. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (2016) argues that many clinicans are suffering from alert fatigue, meaning they are becoming desentized to safety alerts and as a result ignore or fail to respond to them appropriately. It considered an unintended consequence of health care that can lead to huge safety hazards. The global aim statement for your project gives an excellent overview of your improvement project. You give a good supporting argument of why this issue needs to be addressed.
Today was a great clinical day, where Jessica and I got to teach three foster teens about nutrition labels, unit prices, making grocery lists, coupons, and took a tour of a grocery store. The students applied what they learned in class by comparing items using unit prices, and looking at deals. As well as, compared nutrition labels of different brands, of the same items. It was very interesting, to see the comparison. At the end of the class, we gave the students coupons and a booklet of coupons, which they loved. These teens where wonderful, and I felt this class was a lot better than the first class that we had; not that the first class was bad. I just felt that I really made an impact on theses teens. I even had one of the students, ask
The purpose of this essay is to reflect on my personal role in the inter-professional team and the delivery of healthcare that I have encountered during my duty as a health care assistant in one of the hospitals here in England. In accordance with the NMC (2002) Code of professional conduct, confidentiality shall be maintained and all names have been changed to protect identity. The purpose of reflection as stated by John's (1995) is to promote desirable practice through the practitioner's understanding and learning about his/her lived experiences. I have decided to reflect upon an incident with the nurse in charge in one of my shifts and in order to structure my reflection I
Overall, I have been very impressed with how this course is going so far. I appreciate having a short presentation on the topic each week then having the opportunity to discuss the topic with other group members. I have learned a lot from the readings as well as from other group members. By having everyone share their ideas and thoughts, I feel that I have gotten more out of this course than I had expected. With everyone coming from different educational backgrounds and experiences, it has been interesting to be exposed to different ideas and perceptions on some of these topics. In addition, having group members question and challenge my ideas have promoted me to think more in-depth and explore more closely about the topics. As of right now, there seems to be no issues with my group. Everyone participates in weekly discussions as well as writing the summary. Ideas and opinions are shared in a respectful manner
Overall, I am satisfied with how well my group worked together during the community assessment portion of the project. We did well because we were all committed to the project. Moreover, at almost all of our meetings and community visits, members showed up on time and prepared. Some parts of our assessment were more comprehensive then
The health behavior that was chosen to promote during our campaign was yoga. We encouraged students, staff, and faculty members at Knox College to partake in yoga classes offered by the school in order to reduce stress and target a particular health/illness outcome. The main physical health/illness outcome targeted in this campaign was reduced blood pressure. Yoga is also seen to improve cardiovascular health. We chose to focus on the benefits of yoga to improve blood pressure and cardiovascular health instead of just one or the other because most of the studies that we found while researching mentioned both decreased blood pressure and improved cardiovascular health occurring from practicing yoga.
The Women’s Health Issues course this semester have been interesting and informative. I gained great perspective on health topics affecting women’s health status and ways biological and social factors put women at a higher stake for health issues. One of the most important thing I am taking away from this class is the importances of understanding women’s health, as a Public Health student women’s health has been a topic of interest for a long time. Coming from a developing country where many women grapple with health issues from discrimination and prescribed roles, it has been important for me to take this class and to have better understanding on health disparities that exist globally between women and men. In the following paragraphs I
What health and wellness mean to me may be different than what the textbook would state health and wellness is. Health means to me the condition in which your body is, which could be poor or good health. The mind, spirit, physicality would pertain all to the state of one's body. Wellness is the consistent goal towards being in wellness meaning that one strives to be in good personal health. The book describes wellness as; “ wellness is the physical-well being , emotional-well being ,and spiritual- well being.” (Robert T. Harper) According to Merriam Webster the definition of health is “the condition of being sound in mind, body, and spirit.”(...) There is not much difference between what I perceive as health and
