Recommendations for the health fair encourage participants to explore all the booths to promote healthier lives. The health fair is a place to learn about resources, treatment options to increase health. The knowledge obtained by the participant can assist their families. Follow up calls for participants who had positive testing that need to seek further treatment or confirm a diagnosis. Follow ups can also consist mailings of health information. Health fairs would have a greater benefit to the public if more health care professionals such as physicians, dentists and nurses got involved. Every year the step team does a performance during the Health Fair. This year we wanted to try something different, so we decided to teach steps to children from the area. Most of our steps are elite and very tedious to learn so we had to figure out what steps would be appropriate to teach without the children losing interest. Originally, we started with three kids who are siblings of one of my teammates. Later on in the day, after the drill team performed, some of drill team members came over to learn a couple of step moves, along with a couple of girls from the dancing school.

The health triangle is an organizer which generally divides our everyday activities into three main aspects. It stresses the importance of maintaining a balance of good physical, mental, and social health in order to obtain an ideally healthy and happy life. Each individual’s triangle is different and is customized to their own lifestyle and habits, however, as we grow up, many of us often devote our attention to one side, leading to health imbalances.

I would like to propose a health fair to improve the quality of life and prevention of the congregational community with the collaboration of community vendors. Public health surveillance is an ongoing process to protect health information and it is the responsibility of a public health official to protect the privacy of individuals related to health information. There are several laws that apply to the public health agencies while reporting the health information related issues to the State and Federal authorities. Any agency or organization dealing with health information has legal duties to report health related data to the State or Federal Public Health Agencies to protect public health and safety (Association of State and Territorial Health Officials [Astho], 2012).

The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment contains many divisions and branches. There is about 1,400 employees that works at the campus at South Cheery Creek drive. Overseeing all of the division is the Executive Director’s Office, then the organization is broken into four different divisions. The first division include Building operations, Human resources, Legal and Regulatory Compliance, and Board of Health. The second division is Environmental Programs. The health behavior that was chosen to promote during our campaign was yoga. We encouraged students, staff, and faculty members at Knox College to partake in yoga classes offered by the school in order to reduce stress and target a particular health/illness outcome. The main physical health/illness outcome targeted in this campaign was reduced blood pressure. Yoga is also seen to improve cardiovascular health. We chose to focus on the benefits of yoga to improve blood pressure and cardiovascular health instead of just one or the other because most of the studies that we found while researching mentioned both decreased blood pressure and improved cardiovascular health occurring from practicing yoga.

The Women’s Health Issues course this semester have been interesting and informative. I gained great perspective on health topics affecting women’s health status and ways biological and social factors put women at a higher stake for health issues. One of the most important thing I am taking away from this class is the importances of understanding women’s health, as a Public Health student women’s health has been a topic of interest for a long time. Coming from a developing country where many women grapple with health issues from discrimination and prescribed roles, it has been important for me to take this class and to have better understanding on health disparities that exist globally between women and men.
