Minneapolis HIAs HIA (health impact assessment) is generally defined as a public decision-making tool that assesses the health impact of a project/policy before its implementation. A good HIA would take both policy and research inputs into consideration, thus maximizing the positive health impact while minimizing the negative impact. In this section, we have chosen two typical HIAs from the various HIA practices in Minneapolis, Minnesota to explore. Above the falls - health impact assessment - Ensuring Health Equity in Decision-Making The Above the Fall plan aims to develop sustainable green facilities along the Minneapolis’ upper riverfront area. The vision of this plan includes new parks, trails, redevelopment and related amenities in the riverfront area. This HIA chose to focus on four main decision alternatives of the ATF plan and assess their health impacts. These four alternatives include: 1) increasing the size of parkland; 2) extending the length of trails; 3) creating long-term employment opportunities; and 4) creating additional housing units. The health indicators they chose include obesity, mental health, environmental quality, safety and security, neighborhood cohesion, and employment. This report predicts the impact of ATF to these indicators based on related literatures and existing conditions. 1.
