The job outlook for health information technology between the years 2012 and 2022 is twenty-two percent, much faster than average. It is expected to increase as our population ages. This is great news for anyone looking for a job in the medical field but not wanting anything to do with the clinical aspects of it. I chose health information technology as my field of study for this and a handful of other reasons. When I came to Great Lakes Institute of Technology originally planning to be a medical diagnostic sonographer, I was told that I would not find many jobs in Erie. I was never a fan of blood and knowing that it was a medical school, I thought my time at the school was done with that one appointment, but I was wrong. Heather, my admissions
I am writing to express my interest in the Health Informatics Master’s Program at the University of South Florida. Growing up I always admired the passion and dedication of my family members in the healthcare field. I wanted to follow in their footsteps but I never quite knew what area within the field I wanted to pursue. In 2010, my desire to work in the healthcare field led me to major in Pre-Physical Therapy at Miami Dade College where I took several science courses.
I, Ronnishia Thomas should be selected to take part in the CLAHEC CI:Healthcare 2017 program. I should be selected because it is an exciting opportunity that I would like to take advantage of. I am a senior and I want to make sure I'm choosing the career best for me. I've been saying that I want to be an Obstetric Sonographer since the beginning of time and I'm not sure if I want to change it or not. I want to explore Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Forensic Science, and more. One thing about me is that I love to help people. I believe that it's important to have a trait as such when wanting to pursue a career in the medical field. I think this program will benefit me because I haven't started college and this
Time flows like a river and you find yourself not thinking the way you used to as a child. As I grew older, my dreams and goals changed as well as my mindset on how to achieve those aspirations. Mercyhurst University’s Public Health Program is the main step toward helping me achieve my career goal of becoming a Registered Health Information Technician. I’d like to define success as many achievements and accomplishments, as well as the coming of knowledge for that which was unknown to one’s self. Therefore, there should never be an ending to a success story. It was when I graduated as a medical assistant that sparked the realization to what field I was most interested in.
Students decide to pursue health careers in college, but it can be hard to know what is needed to achieve this goal. There are also a great variety of careers included in the health field and each job has different roles and requirements so it can be difficult to know which job you want to pursue. One important aspect of the UC Davis Pre-Health Conference is the large amount of information and resources provided to students in relation to the career they choose to pursue in health.
“I began the study of medicine, impelled by a desire for knowledge of facts and of man. The resolution to do disciplined work tied me to both laboratory and clinic for a long time to come” (Jaspers , n.d.). In the past week or so, I changed the career that I wanted to pursue from being a Pediatric Anesthesiologist to being a Medical Technologist. When I first decided to become a Pediatric Anesthesiologist, I was in my junior year of high school and I was simply browsing the world wide web for a good paying job that was also helping others that are in need. Two years later and taking the college course Strategies for Success in College, I have realized that money alone cannot sustain an individual in reaching their ‘dream goal’. I needed something
In conclusion, researching about this career has helped me be prepared to become a successful health information technician. The health information technology career continues to grow nationally, and the benefits of it have made a changes in the health care system. Lowering bills and providing accurate information for providers and patience. Health information is being used in many departments. This is relevant for students who are planning to major in this field. This field provides many opportunities and benefits.
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) supports research aimed at improving the efficiency of healthcare services. The AHRQ hosts the National Resource Center for Health Information Technology (NRCHIT). The center serves as a connection between researchers, the healthcare community and experts in information technology. Its main role is to encourage the adoption of information technology in healthcare by availing latest tools, promoting best practices and providing excellent laboratories (López et al., 2011).
The most important quality an individual should possess to get through the Healthcare IT program would be a good support system. An individual cannot succeed without a healthy support system. Without personal support and professional support, an individual would travel a very difficult road to success. A good personal support system includes support from friends, family, or any individual that plays a key role within someone’s personal life. Work support includes a company that is willing to support and provide help with educational needs such as tuition reimbursement and other incentives. A manger that merits the decision to stay in school and the benefits associated with staying and completing the said degree. Co-workers that keep the individual on track and provide guidance are very important in a work related support system. Developing and maintaining a personal and work support system should go hand in hand. Just having one and not the other would still prove challenging for any individual to stay on track and complete the program.
Though I originally started out in a different kind of health care field, I quickly realized that was not where I wanted to be. Having started out in Medical Technology, I knew by the end of my first semester that this was not for me. I looked into a few different majors such as nursing before coming to the conclusion that I should be on the business end and not the science end. I knew that I definitely still wanted to be involved in health care, so I decided to change my major to Health Administration. After the first semester of classes in the Health Administration program, I knew it was the right fit. I loved, and still love that I was able to be on the business end yet still be a part of something health related.
My interest for public health stems from the need to aid numerous people in disease and injury prevention, health protection, and strategies for health promotion. I hope to earn a Master of Public Health with a focus in the area of health care management as well as hospital administration in relation to public health policy development and education. I aspire to develop enhanced intervention policies that can provide the population with direct access to primary health care due to public health preparedness education and strategic planning.
I first heard about the Clinical Health Informatics program at Georgia State University through my academic advisor. When I first enrolled in to the University, my hopes were set on the Respiratory Therapist Program because I thought it would be an interesting field to start my career in. During my advisement I began to weigh out all my options and I realized that being a respiratory therapist was not the degree plan for me. As my advisor went over other degrees that he thought I would be interested in, he came across the idea of pursing a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Health Informatics degree.
While being a Health Informatics and Information technology student at Community College of Baltimore County, not only I was able to start my career as a billing coordinator at Johns Hopkins University’s Pathology Department but also continued to fulfil my dream of completing my education. I have a very strong understanding of computer system while expressed keen interest in learning about various diseases and diagnosis. With immense gratitude, I give credit of my success to this wonderful program offered at CCBC campus that allowed me to expand my horizons by learning in depth about healthcare and healthcare delivery system. Starting a career in such big organization, without any prior experience within healthcare industry makes me feel
