Why does America have an obesity problem? Do we blame it on ourselves, the government, or the supermarket? It is obviously and individual’s responsibility to keep one’s self healthy, but are there ways the government can strive for an overall healthier diet for Americans? Can we change the manipulative ways of Super Markets and persuade them to look past profit? The American government should put in effort to provide a better dietary path for American citizens by working on motivating individuals to make better choices in their diet, pushing Super markets and industries to work together to lower prices of healthier foods, and placing policies and banning unhealthy ingredients in junk foods. It may not be the governments fault, but obesity is such a big issue in American culture that we need to make some major changes and the government is the only one who can make that happen.

In America today one in three adults are considered to be obese. Over the years the rate of obesity keeps climbing up and up. Some people blame fast-food or the environment Americans live in. After all,someone can purchase a chocolate bar at a bookstore nowadays. But, most people are looking at the incorrect factor to blame. Healthy habits in the U.S. has started to drop even as early as the year 1920. These unhealthy eating and exercising habits are what eventually leads to morbid obesity. Obesity in America has become an issue so fast growing, the chance to stop it in its tracks went out the window years ago. Obesity has become a matter so synonymous with America that it is not only a running joke in other countries, but also has become commercialized to the point of making millions of dollars. Obesity has rapidly emerged as a serious health issue in America. The cause of obesity results from America’s social injustices. Today, food advertisements are in all places promoting an unhealthy lifestyle. Considering the great expense of healthy foods, low income families can barely afford fruits and vegetables. These two factors contribute to the increasing obesity rate in the United States. Unfortunately, it has taken an excessive amount of Americans to become obese for America to become aware of the issue and take action. Although obesity is still an increasing problem, America is fighting to reduce the number of obese citizens. As a result of low income and the media advertising unhealthy lifestyles, America is in the midst of an obesity epidemic.

Studies have shown that from 1960-2010, the quantity of Obesity in America doubled. Obesity is one of the many health issues that America pays little attention to but should be evaluated and thoroughly dealt with. Heart Disease, Diabetes, Obesity, and Depression are some of the other main health problems that have been on the rise on Americans. While there are many health issues that people are more knowledgeable about, they usually learn when they or someone in their family has the experience of that health problem. A way to help prevent and have others become even more knowledgeable is by creating a program in which high school students learn about the types of health issues.

Fall is unplanned descent to the floor with or without harm. Most falls occur due to multiple contributing factors such as muscle weakness, gait problems, environmental hazards, medications and many others (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Many residents living in nursing home fall frequently. Falls are a serious health care issue, and the leading cause of injuries and death among older adults in nursing home. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), every year approximate 1,800 residents in nursing home die from injuries as a result of the fall, and those who survive lives with permanent disability and reduced quality of life. Falls among the elderly are the major cause of health care utilization and costs. In 2005, medical care for falls among people aged 50 years and older cost the United States $13.5 billion (Albert et al, 2014). Luckily, falls is a preventable public health problem. But the public health has a challenge to decrease the fall rate without reducing physical activity. Interventions such as exercise, environmental modification, reduction in psychotropic medications use, and as well as other multifactorial interventions have shown to prevent falls.
