Describe the factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services. e.g.
i) The individual needs, age and abilities of the children and young people ii) The needs of carers where relevant iii) Desired outcomes for the children and young people.
When setting up an indoor classroom ready for learning you need to consider lots of factors so that the environment is safe for the children to learn in. It is important that the children can move freely around the classroom without knocking into chairs and tables. All the equipment that is to be used should be fully functioning and in good working order. All entrances to the outside area from outside of the school must be kept locked at all times while the children are outside. The only time our gates are unlocked is to let the children and parents into the school grounds in the mornings and to let the parents in at the end of the day. The playground is fully fenced off and checked on a regular basis by the caretaker and teachers. The sandpit is covered when not in use, when it is opened there is an adult supervising the children when they are using the sandpit to ensure that they are using the area correctly, and not harming the other children, or throwing the sand at each other. The outside area is checked every morning to ensure that there have been not overnight visitors to the area, any findings are removed, and this may include animal droppings, broken glass or litter.
All the outside equipment (bikes, scooters, cars) is checked regularly to ensure that it is still safe to use. If any equipment is found to be broken, it is either fixed by the caretaker or thrown away, if it is beyond repair. We have a wooden adventure play area on the school field. This can only be used in dry weather, as it becomes slippery when damp. This equipment is checked on a regular basis by the senior staff members and cordoned off if unsafe for the children to use, until it can be
