Do you think that students should have a say in what they eat for lunch? Even though healthy lunches are required by the state, children are refusing to eat the green vegetables on their plate. Students aren’t used to the healthy food. A couple years ago, schools started to serve whole grain and more healthy foods. Students don’t want to eat healthy every day for lunch. They want to at least have normal pizza, not whole grain dough and low fat cheese. Students don’t find that appetizing.

What we need to do is lend a hand to the schools that are struggling, not roll back the standards and say, 'Oh, well. The kids don't like it, so let them eat cake.' We can't afford to do that." "It's so important for our schools to make the hard calls for our kids, because parents are struggling enough at home. So once you make that decision to set the rules, you don't want to be undermined when your kids go to school and have some sweet cereal for breakfast with chocolate milk followed by a doughnut and then a burger and fries for lunch," she said. "That's why we're in the state that we're in right now, in regards to the epidemic of childhood obesity." She does have a good statement. That would make a lot of children obese if this was the case. They have great statements, but schools should have a little bit of a lenient menu.
Students don’t like as much healthy food as they should. This is not something that they should get in trouble for. From greasy food to all healthy food, I wouldn’t want to eat it either. Kids might actually eat something on their plate that they actually
One of the most controversial issues today is the question of how to address childhood obesity. Because of the large proportion of meals that children, particularly low-income children, consume in schools, cafeteria food has been targeted by dietary reformers as in need of a major overhaul. However, while many different types of new school menus have been proposed, the extent to which healthier foods can be offered remains controversial. Opponents to reform state that children will not eat healthier lunches, and that changing the food that children eat will have minimal impact, since the children will either bring food from home or eat food at home that is more 'kid friendly.'
You may never know if a student is allergic to the food that the school provides until he or she is sick. Some students won’t eat the school food provided, which could make them starve if they don’t eat their lunch. Some school doesn’t taste too good to eat but I will eat whats put jn front of me. I do like eating fast food every once in awhile but at the same time it gives students some free time to be outside and visit with their friends. I feel that the food our school provides is just as bad as the fast food that we eat on a daily basis.
A healthier lunch change is happening across schools statewide. Schools have finally realized that students are not eating as healthy as they should be. Schools will began to have healthier students, better food choices, and be able to cut out unnecessary junk foods. If schools change to healthier lunches, students will begin to become healthier themselves. Students will receive better nutritional value from the change in their lunches. Although students will vote against the change in food, they slowly realize the school is doing this help them achieve better health. Also, students will receive better energy and bodily functions from new and improved lunches. Students will gain increased vitamins and minerals from the which they were not currently receiving Healthier lunches will bring better food choices to students. It will replace normal, unhealthy foods with more nutritious, healthier

Although school lunches are good to some students, others are becoming obese because of them. Healthier school lunches need to be provided at schools, rather than junk food and salt. The first lady Michelle Obama wants more schools to be part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which provides healthier school lunches. The plan is just a effort of trying to get student to eat healthier at school.
One in three Americans kids are obese or over weight which is a staggering and alarming rate at the same time. So looking 20 years into the future that number could double if nothing is said and done about what we are eating. The public school food in school lunches are unhealthy for many alarming reasons, but not much can be done immediately due to strict guidelines and budgets that schools must follow. A lot of it goes to kids not exercising, and more time watching TV, or playing on the computer. And now days more families have less time to make nutritious home made meals. So they tend to eat School cafeteria lunches that have minimal nutrition’s and harmful calories. To prevent your kid from being over weight mean adapting what you eat, and having to exercise at least 60 minutes a day. If the changes are made to change school lunches, it can help them from being obese, children can improve their lifestyle choices, and lastly it prevents them from getting harmful diseases.
What is does every kid look forward to during their school day? Lunch and recess. What kids eat at lunch reflects on the rest of their day. That includes energy levels, academic performance, and how much they engage. Meaning a poor lunch that is high in fats and lacking nutrition results in a sluggish child and some claim is a factor of the childhood obesity epidemic. School lunches should be reevaluated to provide students with a nutrient balance diet to help supply children with healthy brain functions to increase productivity in school, promotes beneficial future eating habits which can prevent further obesity issues in children, and it promotes an increase of attendance. To change what the schools here in the United States serve children food we have to take a deeper look into who is in charge, analyze the current standards and policies, and compare it to what a proper diet should be for children.
Even though kids hate healthier lunches, we should have them for all schools. I agree that children should have healthier school lunches because many children in the U.S. are overweight and need healthy lunches. If theses children do not eat healthier lunches the will fail in physical classes, will not attend sports and not get the exercise they need. The children will be to lazy and won't get a good job and live a unhappy life. From what I know people who live unhappy lives and get a bad job do drugs and become even more miserable. Theses misbal children will not only affect the parents lives but people who are around them and customers coming to their jobs.
Don’t you ever wonder what high school kids have to go through when they have to go to the lunchroom, just to find out that it was the same thing as yesterday? Well, I should know, I am in high school myself and also have these problems often. School lunch at school should be healthy and have variety so that it can help students gain enough power to get through the rest of the day. In reality, though, the lunch at school has low nutritional value, and on top of that, the same lunch is served again and again. Also, a reason for the food being unhealthy is the quality at which they serve the food. At times, the food looks overcooked and sometimes looks like they just pulled it out and served it. Therefore, high school lunches should be refined
Researching about school lunches, really made me view the school lunch system differently. I always knew that the meals served in schools are the not the most delicious or the healthiest, but I never realize how bad it was. I was born and raised in Mexico and when I came to America I remember I did not like pizzas, hamburgers, French fries, and other processed foods they gave me because in my country we didn’t eat these types of foods. But now I crave all of these foods. I feel like I was forced to eat all of these foods. My mom always thought schools served healthy foods and that I was so lucky that I got it for free. As I kid, I never realized all the damage that I was doing to my myself by eating all of these foods. Schools should teach
foods to students they will not eat it. While there are many students that do not want to eat
Have you ever taken a bit in your school lunch and just want to spit it all back out? Or how about the little portions you get? These types of school lunches should not be allowed to be given to the students because there are many reasons why school lunches are bad for health reasons. Although the school lunches are supposed to be healthier and better for our well-being, school lunches should change because it’s not very appetizing, there are little portions, and there isn’t any difference in the health level before.
First of all, kids enjoy the healthy nutritious food being served to them. According to the infographic,”In elementary schools, 70% of food staff and school administrators say students like them.“ In other words, more than two thirds of the students in schools are enjoying the healthy food. The evidence highlights that, schools should continue serving healthy lunches because more and more kids are liking the veggies and proteins. For example in the text it states,” For instance, many high school athletes needed more protein than the guidelines allowed, so the government changed the rules.” Basically, the article is saying that some athletes needed more protein than they had so it was necessary to give healthy lunches. From this we can infer that healthy lunches should be served because students are needing the protein from the beneficial food. As one can see, healthy lunches should be given to students because they enjoy it and they need it for energy throughout the day.
The problem is that kids don’t know the dangers of eating unhealthy food. In a quote said by Bittman that by “improving our diet it can improve our health and save tens of millions of lives”(Bittman 75). Just by changing the school lunch into healthy things it could change many lives. To get more healthy food the school can work with farmers and grocery stores to get more healthy food. Even though school serves some health food it may not be that fresh, and we need, to take more action to it. Also send a letter to the parents to help encourage their child's eating habit. To make school lunch more healthy take-out unhealthy snacks and drinks then put water. Jane Brody said that “It's a $24 billion industry just for kids alone”(Dr. Gortmaker 82). By encouraging good eating, it could help bring down the company that doesn’t care about people's health and just about money. “A 20% tax increase of
Getting fresh fruits and vegetables onto lunch trays in public schools is only half the battle, because most kids don’t always eat them. Six out of ten kids won’t even touch a healthy food option on their plate. In most U.S. schools, pizza, fries, ketchup and macaroni & cheese are on monthly menus.
