Have you ever taken a bit in your school lunch and just want to spit it all back out? Or how about the little portions you get? These types of school lunches should not be allowed to be given to the students because there are many reasons why school lunches are bad for health reasons. Although the school lunches are supposed to be healthier and better for our well-being, school lunches should change because it’s not very appetizing, there are little portions, and there isn’t any difference in the health level before.
1 in 3 American children were overweight or obese. In 2010, Michelle Obama began a program, Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act, for schools to have healthier lunches. It became a law for all schools to serve healthier lunches for kids in 2012 but some people are against it. We should follow the guidelines because kids are enjoying the healthy food being given, and childhood obesity is a huge problem.
Many parents hope to have their children in good schools that provide effective academic opportunities. The schools from the Socorro Independent District (SISD) offer their students these openings. But one thing that has bothered many students and parents was lunch choices that the Socorro District had to offer. The Socorro District plans what the schools will be severing every week. These meals are already packaged frozen and all the cafeteria ladies have to do is heat up processed foods. Even though these schools distribute these types of lunches for their students they teach their students about good eating habits. The schools are contradicting their own actions. These school’s lunches serve their students unhealthy foods choices every
In conclusion these new regulations are causing many problems in an average student’s diet. Instead of helping our diets, they are making them worst. We should take a stand and help them realize that, we need to find a happy medium when it comes to our options at lunch. These new school lunches are causing problems, being thrown down the drain, and does not help with
I think that schools should give the students more fruits and vegetables to pick from the healthy choices in foods. More students want vegetables and fruits because they like being healthy and they want more choices to pick from instead of having what the school is giving them. Also, If there are better choices the school makes students pay to get that lunch, so that’s why students don’t want to buy it because they need the money for other things for school. From the article “Why Students Hate School Lunches” from the New York Times by Kate Murphy it says “MORE than 30 million children trundle through school cafeteria lines every day in the United States and thanks to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which took effect in 2012, they are no longer served greasy pizza, salty French fries and sauced up chicken wings. Meals must now be lower in fat, calories and sodium and contain lean
One in three Americans kids are obese or over weight which is a staggering and alarming rate at the same time. So looking 20 years into the future that number could double if nothing is said and done about what we are eating. The public school food in school lunches are unhealthy for many alarming reasons, but not much can be done immediately due to strict guidelines and budgets that schools must follow. A lot of it goes to kids not exercising, and more time watching TV, or playing on the computer. And now days more families have less time to make nutritious home made meals. So they tend to eat School cafeteria lunches that have minimal nutrition’s and harmful calories. To prevent your kid from being over weight mean adapting what you eat, and having to exercise at least 60 minutes a day. If the changes are made to change school lunches, it can help them from being obese, children can improve their lifestyle choices, and lastly it prevents them from getting harmful diseases.
Obesity is crucial in this country, in order for there to be a change we need to start serving healthy foods at schools. The First Lady Michelle Obama brought this healthy lunch concern to the educational system. California’s Department of Education Nutrition Services provides fresh fruit and vegetables to students as a supplement throughout the day. California’s schools have moved ahead to support Hunger-Free Kids policy. The local government regulates school districts including Los Angeles Unified School District to serve whole grains, fruits and vegetables versus foods high in calories. The Hunger-Free Kids policy allowed public schools to serve healthy lunches preventing obesity.
A healthier lunch change is happening across schools statewide. Schools have finally realized that students are not eating as healthy as they should be. Schools will began to have healthier students, better food choices, and be able to cut out unnecessary junk foods. If schools change to healthier lunches, students will begin to become healthier themselves. Students will receive better nutritional value from the change in their lunches. Although students will vote against the change in food, they slowly realize the school is doing this help them achieve better health. Also, students will receive better energy and bodily functions from new and improved lunches. Students will gain increased vitamins and minerals from the which they were not currently receiving Healthier lunches will bring better food choices to students. It will replace normal, unhealthy foods with more nutritious, healthier
Even though kids hate healthier lunches, we should have them for all schools. I agree that children should have healthier school lunches because many children in the U.S. are overweight and need healthy lunches. If theses children do not eat healthier lunches the will fail in physical classes, will not attend sports and not get the exercise they need. The children will be to lazy and won't get a good job and live a unhappy life. From what I know people who live unhappy lives and get a bad job do drugs and become even more miserable. Theses misbal children will not only affect the parents lives but people who are around them and customers coming to their jobs.
Researching about school lunches, really made me view the school lunch system differently. I always knew that the meals served in schools are the not the most delicious or the healthiest, but I never realize how bad it was. I was born and raised in Mexico and when I came to America I remember I did not like pizzas, hamburgers, French fries, and other processed foods they gave me because in my country we didn’t eat these types of foods. But now I crave all of these foods. I feel like I was forced to eat all of these foods. My mom always thought schools served healthy foods and that I was so lucky that I got it for free. As I kid, I never realized all the damage that I was doing to my myself by eating all of these foods. Schools should teach
In my opinion school lunch wouldn't be that bad if the healthy hunger free kids act didn't make sure that school lunches are healthier. Greasy pizza, salty French fries and sauces up chicken wings are not healthy and that meals at school should be lower in fat, calories and sodium and contain lean proteins, more fruits and vegetables. But school lunches shouldn't be mostly whole grains because personally I don't like whole grain foods and since my school started serving almost everything whole grain, I rarely eat lunch because kids don't like whole grain or wheat bread. If my school and other schools should start serving white wheat bread, because white wheat doesn't taste like wheat bread, it tastes like regular white bread l, and if schools
Should schools serve health food for lunch? Schools should serve healthy school lunches. It is very important to eat well because it can improve students academic performance, promotes good nutrition and prevents child obesity. Having healthy school lunches can help students improve their lifestyle and prevent drowsiness throughout the school day. Healthy food means better students.
The majority of children in schools are lacking nutrition critical to get through the day, especially if they are going to practice right after school. This is why, as an active, hungry student; I believe that we should be able to have multiply choices for lunch. When yes, we do have the portion sizes required by the state, children should not have to go home from school hungry. Also, not everyone likes certain foods they serve for lunch, and with more than one main food choice, everyone is bound to find something they like. This is why I think that we should expand the lunch choices.
Throughout the course of a school year, a vast majority of the school's lunch is disposed. For the most part, school lunches sit in the cafeteria without a single touch being acted upon them. As a student, I’ve witnessed the act which has led to me believe that a change should occur. Moreover, I strongly believe that the reason for the large range of food disposal is generally because of the fact that most students lack eating vegetables and would rather consume something more appealing. In addition, I also believe that schools often tend to waste too much money on foods that do satisfy many students. Essentially, schools should focus on making school lunches better in both taste and looks. Nevertheless, Much of the food served in American schools is mediocre at best. Too many school lunches feature poor-quality produce that’s frequently tasteless and/or the wrong size.
School is a place where children develop themselves. They make independent choices about their lifestyle. Children are influenced by many things when it comes to making choices, for example their friends, parents and popular trends. Today is the time to encourage and talk about healthy school lunches.
