Heart disease is a major epidemic that is destructive and incurable. Every 1 in 4 deaths in America alone are caused by a diseased heart. People who are at risk are smokers, type 2 diabetics, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity or overweight, unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and genetics. Some examples of heart diseases are marfan syndrome (which affects the body’s connective tissues.), cardiomegaly (which is an enlarged heart due to some other type of heart condition.) and lastly atrial fibrillation (which is when the heart has irregular electric signals leading the person to have irregular heart rhythms.)

While heart disease is not curable it can be treated. Some treatments and surgeries for heart disease would include: angioplasties, CABGs, change in diet, regular exercise, medications. In emergency situations: CPR and/or a defibrillator. Usually surgeries are not the first option but they can be both beneficial and unsuccessful. An angioplasty is

A lot of the times these are warning signs for heart disease.

Heart disease affects the body in many ways; however, it can also affect society, mental health and family. Having a serious heart condition can cause limitations. This can make the patient or the family of the patient feel helpless and/or depressed. Since people with heart disease typically have a low life expectancy, they typically do not get to see their children or their grandchildren grow up. This leaves families without a male or female figure in their household causing the family to live with such an unfortunate
