Many of today’s drivers have dangerous habits Heather Cook is an Episcopal Bishop in Baltimore County. She was arrested and charged with manslaughter on 27 Dec 14. The charges surprised a community and stemmed from a hit and run of a bicyclist. The actual incident occurred on Monday. The police concluded that she left the scene and returned thirty minutes later. When she returned to the scene she had been administered a breathalyzer at that time it was determined that she was almost three times the legal limit. No one wants to become a victim, but many people are guilty of catastrophic driving habits. An altered mind due to inebriation, fatigue or distraction has been proven to cause severe injury or death. For example, fatigue is a habit
On June 7th 2008, Sarah May Ward was arrested for the murder of Eli Westlake after she ran him over in a motor vehicle in St. Leonards. Prior to the incident the offender had been driving the wrong way down Christine Lane which was a one way street. Whilst this was occurring she was intoxicated, under the influence of marijuana, valium, and ecstasy and was unlicensed to drive. The victim and his brother who were also intoxicated, where walking down the lane and where nearly hit by the offender. This prompted the victim to throw cheese balls at the car and make a few sarcastic remarks regarding her driving ability. After a brief confrontation between the two parties the victim and his brother turned away and proceeded to walk
The straightforward case, State of Montana vs. Michael Curtis Soule, appeared to be Vehicular Homicide While Under the Influence. But costly mistakes that happened on the law enforcement end, ultimately altered the case into a complex situation of who done it. Such small errors like missing evidence and being caught up in the moment can change the outcome of any case to guilty or not guilty. In this particular case, investigators doubted their skills or second guessed evidence that could have been the game changer.
Advertisements posted on the website facesofdrunkdriving.com share multiple stories of people who were unexpectedly struck by drunk drivers. There was one story in particular that stood out to me more than the others and that was Jacqueline Saburido’s. This advertisement makes a powerful statement about how drunk driving can not only kill someone, but can also scar someone for life. The goal of the organization that posted this advertisement is to never drink and drive. It is not worth risking your life, someone else’s life, or putting anyone at risk of lifelong hardships and injuries. They present
On May 3, 1980, in Fair Oaks, California, Candace’s daughter Cari was killed by a drunk driver. Cari was walking to a church carnival with a friend and at the same time, a drunk driver was coming down the road and killed her. She was hit from behind, thrown 125 feet, was so badly injured that her organs could not be donated, and Clarence Busch left her the road to die. He briefly passed out and drove off after Cari Lightner died. A repeat DWI offender committed the crime. Two days prior, the police released Clarence Busch on bail for a separate hit-and-run drunken driving crash. Killing Cari was his fifth offense in four years.
Compare and contrast the cases of Karen Ann Quinlan and Nancy Cruzan. Please note: The Feinbergs have a factual error on page 163. They say Quinlan was injured in a car accident. This is incorrect. She overdosed on alcohol and Valium at a party, passed out when she got home, and never woke up.
MILLERSBURG — Accused of being under the influence of amphetamines when she ran one deputy off the road and crashed into the cruiser of another responding office, a Shreve woman recently was found to be not guilty by reason of insanity.
The northern regions tended to have more religious beliefs. The southern regions tended believe in a church and state separation. According to "The Articles of Agreement, Springfield, Massachusetts in 1636" (Doc D), whoever entered Massachusetts had to comply with the certain articles and orders that shaped a community around God and the share of the land. The “Articles of Agreement, Springfield, Massachusetts, 1636’’ is valid document because it was basic laws. As a result of “The Articles of Agreement Springfield, Massachusetts, 1636’’, the northern region became more religiously involved with society, causing the one region to split into two. Because Virginia was becoming more of an economical region such as its tobacco farming, it
It is a known fact that drinking and driving is an extremely unintelligent decision. Not only does this affect someone's life by making the decision to be intoxicated behind the wheel, but also this can completely change a stranger's life. Although the mind is being affected while under the influence, it still has shown for a long period of time afterward. This concept is seen in the short story, “Drop by Drop”. The main character, Brenda, is in confusion throughout the story about her decisions to drive while intoxicated. It takes the presence of a ghost and going through a state of denial for Brenda to come to realization with what she has done. In Vivian Vande Velde’s “Drop by Drop”, Vivian uses Brenda as a prime example of mentality from being intoxicated.
The sad truth of this case is that some media outlets tried to portray Turner as a star, someone who had a bright future and made a simple mistake, the victim. On the only hand, the actual victim was referred to only has the "intoxicated woman", whose blood- alcohol level was more than three times the legal driving
In the state of California, according to the CAL. PEN. CODE § 187, there are three types of murders that involve having an intention to kill. They are as listed: premeditated murder, second-degree murder malice aforethought, and murder as a result of provocation. Murder as a result of provocation is one who states a mental incapacity for either the time being, such as; blacking out, or they had temporary loss of control of oneself and could not control it. This is only seen though through murder cases for it to end up being a lesser charge. Second-degree murder malice aforethought is a non-premeditated killing of a victim who cannot be fully proven there was the full reasoning of the death. This is also known as having some sort of intent or recklessness.(Cal. Penal Code § 187 [West 1996]). Premeditated murder is someone who sat down and thought the murder through and went along with it, also known as first-degree murder. So with all that being said, in the scenario about a victim of a DUI accident who had religious beliefs about blood transfusion died from bleeding out too much in California. The drunken driver was on probation for a previous DUI he has received, and because of him driving drunk, caused him to be impaired which caused him to crash into a parked car. Where then the victim was trapped and started to bleed out. When they approached the hospital, the victim made it clear that she is against blood transfusions due to her religious beliefs, so the doctors than
“In the hands of an impaired driver, a vehicle becomes a murderous weapon.” ( ) Everyone can think of someone who has driven impaired, or even maybe you have done it yourself. The fact that one can think of someone who has driven impaired is a problem. Too many people are getting behind the wheel after drinking, smoking; or are not paying attention while they drive. Impaired driving continues to a problem although strides have been made to make a difference. There are many different types of impaired driving, each that have their own consequences. These types, and consequences will be explored in this essay.
In this short essay, I shall attempt to explain what Thrasymachus meant when he said, ‘Justice is in the interest of the stronger’. Next, I will outline the ambiguities this statement creates, which I believe results in the contradictory nature on Thrasymachus’s view of justice. Examples of Socrates’ dialectic-style responses will be used and discussed as evidence to show how his statement is implausible. However, I will be also be looking at how Thyrasmachus’s ideal of a ‘strong ruler’ compares to a ‘Machievellian man’, which provides some validity in his view of justice.
Alcohol-impaired driving fatalities were 1,028 in 2008 for the state of California (Century Council). Of those deaths, 68% of the drivers were considered “Hardcore Drunk Drivers”; drivers who had a BAC level of 0.15+ (Century Council). Unfortunately, the drivers who got behind the wheel of those vehicles now have to deal with the fact that they slaughtered a person(s), because they made the choice to drive their car when they knew they had consumed alcohol.
Various methods are utilized to modify epoxy resins to improve their toughness. Based on the structure-property relationships, the traditional chemistry approaches have been: chemical modification of a given rigid epoxy backbone to a more flexible backbone structure; lowering the crosslink density by increasing the molecular weight of the epoxy monomers and/or decreasing the functionality of the curing agents. The most common approaches are the incorporation of dispersed toughener phase(s) in the cured epoxy matrix. The second phase includes rubbers, thermoplastics, block copolymers and hard inclusions such as silica, glass beads, etc.
People tend to feel differently about this if someone they loved were to be killed or injured by a drunk driver. Travis Grayson killed a 6-year-old girl
