In the Iliad, women were alway seen and portrayed as property. In this time there were also different categories of women, the mortals such as Helen, and the gods such as Hera and Aphrodite.

My personal intake on the Iliad was that those two goddesses were the most important and most talked about. First I will talk about the role of Helen in the book. Helen's story is very famous and well known, as it was the reason for the War of Troy. However, some people believe in very different outcomes. For example, one being that she was stolen by Paris away from home and away from her husband Menelaus. While others believe the contrary, saying that she was in love with Paris and willingly ran away with him. Nevertheless, the way in which Homer told the story was that she was stolen by Paris therefore creating the beginning of the biggest war in Trojan history, “the fall of troy.”

It goes to show the main role that Helen had in the Iliad. As she was one of the reasons for this massive destruction. And it also gives a little glimpse into Paris. Pairs was being greedy and selfish and realized the value that Helen had over Menelaus. Yet he still risked the lives of the trojans and the life of his beloved brother Hector, who had in fact tried to warn him of the disaster this would cause. Paris had no problem ruining the peace that was forming between Greece and Troy. Helen was said to be of high value, as she was the most beautiful woman known to Trojans at the time. Yet all the men
