Levitt, Helen
A girl, who had a dream, dropped out of high school and began her life-changing career as a commercial photographer without any former experience. She taught herself how to shoot photos and started teaching children’s art classes when she was 24 and stayed active as a photographer for nearly 70 years. This girl was Helen Levitt.
Helen Levitt, born in New York on August 31st, 1913, was an American photographer who’s particularly known for her street photography around her hometown and given the title as the most celebrated photographer of her time. Levitt made two documentary films with Janice Loeb and James Agee during her 30’s, which were In the Street (1948) and The Quiet One (1948). Her photography represents a different time periods of the New York City and a lot more about the cultures. Even after her death on March 29, 2009, her works were still shown in Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation in Paris and she was then referred as “a photographer who Froze New York Street Life on Film” by The New York Times.

Levitt, which was taken in the early 1940’s. Levitt captured three little children getting ready to go out for the Halloween in their masks on the streets of the New York City. The characters in this famous picture are one girl and two boys. In front of the glass-paneled door, the building across the street and a little girl who tries to put on her mask can be seen through the reflection of the glass. The other two boys, with masks on their faces, are also standing on the steps gracefully in their nice pants and jackets. The brick houses in the front might be either a small residence or a part of apartment type building. The boy who stands in the front seems to be more relaxed with his legs crossed, while the other children don’t seem as much comfortable as
“They carry different diseases than we do (The Help, 2011)” said Hilly Holbrook as she struggled to hide the fact she was dying to use the bathroom during a card game at Elizabeth Leefolt’s home. She figures that since Mrs. Leefolt does not have an outside bathroom for the colored help that Aibileen uses the guess bathroom as well and she refuses to use it. She later talked the Leefolt’s into building Aibileen her own bathroom outside the house… Racism in Jackson was at its prime in the 1960’s during the Civil Rights Movement. All negro women and some men work for white families and are treated like slaves. All over town signs say ‘COLORED’ or ‘WHITES ONLY.’ You did not talk to the colored help unless you were the one they are working for.
She's the daughter of John Van Lew and Elizabeth (some called her Eliza) Louise Baker, in addition, the sister of Anna and John (her sister and brother).
Annie Easley was born on April 23, 1993, to Mary Melivina Hoover and Samuel Bird Easley. She had a brother, but with him being six years older than her, Easley was practically the only child raised by her single mother. In Birmingham, Alabama, Easley attended a parochial school all the way to graduation and was valedictorian of her graduating class.
Mary Surratt was a person, who at the time of Abraham Lincoln’s death owned a boarding house, and had close ties with John Wilkes Booth. After Booth had been captured for the assassination of President Lincoln, Mary was sent to the gallows. To this day there is still a debate about whether she should have been hanged for her crimes. I feel it was unnecessary for her to die that way.
After her husband died an 86-year old widow decided to sell her 10-acre Florida estate and permanently live on a luxury cruise ship. Lee Watchtstetter, or Mama Lee as the ship’s crew calls her, has been aboard the Crystal Serenity for nearly seven years reports the Asbury Park press.
Mary surratt deserved to be hanged. This is because she assisted in the plot to kill Abraham Lincoln, president of the united states. There is so much evidence that she assisted in the plot to kill the president, but the three main reasons are that she lied, she knew of the plot, and her son was a conspirator.

Mrs. Henrietta Levitt is a fifty nine year old middle school teacher in Madison, WI. Mrs. Levitt is a liberal, as shown in her stances on key issues. One example to show she is liberal is that she said, “In order to use a military we would have to increase defense spending, but I would rather see spending go toward social programs.” This shows that she would rather have social programs be more important than the military, and only use the military if necessary. Moreover, Henrietta also shows she is left leaning because she says, “...change quickly is necessary, especially when it comes to the needs of the society.” This displays how she is a libertarian due to the fact that many left leaning people like change quickly and really focus on the needs of their society.
Councilwoman Helen Gym, born in Seattle, Washington circa 1968 and later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated UPenn in 1993. Gym led a campaign in 2000 called “Stadium Out of Chinatown Coalition”, this campaign was to stop the gentrification that was happening in chinatown fearing that the stadium being built around the area would take away the culture. Gym later ran for council member regarding housing reform and education thus replacing Jim Kenney. Gym has been working on education reform since 2006, and around 2006 she co-founded, Parents United for Public Education, The Philadelphia Public School Notebook, and a charter school in chinatown, no easy feat for a new outsider in the philly system. The following year she was awarded
At first you could say This girl is fearless and she had a tough childhood, she was probably the elite of the elite in rhythm and blues. Etta James got interested in music while in church, which took her into a long career in music, where she soon became one of the best R&B artist in the business, she later was inducted in the Rock Hall of Fame.
Helen Levitt was an incredibly influential street photographer starting in the late 1930’s and was active all the way until the 1990’s. She enjoyed much early success in her photography career photographing day-to-day happenings in the world around her, this set the stage for a long and very important career. Her photography can be described as objective because through her work she represented New York in a non bias way, photographing day to day happenings in her local life in Brooklyn, New York and the surrounding city such as children playing in the streets (Broken mirror), and adults going about their usual business gossiping, and simply their city life (Checkered Car). However, some may argue the point the Helen may have done an outstanding job at creating the illusion of objective work by photographing specific happenings around her world, and creating the illusion of a status quo. As seen in the photo Girl/Green Car all was not positive, uplifting, and graceful as many of her photos represent, the girl is seen
The famous American photographer Annie Leibovits was born on October 2nd 1949, in Connecticut. Her father, Sam, was an air force lieutenant and her mother, Marilyn was a dance instructor. She was one of their 6 kids. She didn’t find her love of photography until she enrolled at the San Francisco Art Institute for painting. Her Sophomore year, she decided to switch to photography. She never learned how to use lighting or color throughout her schooling. She only knew black and white, until she later taught herself otherwise. Her well known photographs use surprising or sometimes provocative poses, and, when not in black and white, use pops of primary colors. She became the chief photographer for the Rolling Stone in 1971. Eventually, in 1983,
Playing inside the clay court has been quite a patriarchal sport but nevertheless, women like Martina Navratilova proved to the world that women can certainly do it, too. Navratilova is a Czech tennis player which had been nationalized as an American citizen. All over the web of tennis rankings, she was one of the greatest players in the history of this sport. He went on to win 168 titles, including nine at Wimbledon, four at the US Open, twice at the Roland Garros Cup and three in the Australia Open. She laid-off her shining tennis career in 1994 but returned in 2000 for exhibition tournaments and competitions in doubles and mixed, which created pandemonium when her full-pledged fans have known about it.
