Since an early age my passion has always been to help others. In every aspect of my educational career and in my jobs, I have always determined that helping someone is the goal. Helping people is a goal that can be achieved in any work field regardless of what one does. For the last five years, I have volunteered for a non-profit organization named “Hogar de Ninos: Semillas de Fe” (translates to “A Home for Children: Seeds of Faith”). In this organization, a group of young adults have traveled to the Dominican Republic once a year for a period of two weeks each trip. Our goal is to help the impoverished children. These children have been exposed to countless traumatic events including being physically, emotionally, and sexually abused. The organizations mission consists of helping develop these children …show more content…
These children need someone to tend for them; it ultimately all deals with love. This same concept is what I take when I engage myself with any person at my job. Our job and careers entail certain guidelines and curriculums with an object of any kind. This could include a retail or sales goal that must be met. Within the works of achieving such sales goals, we must find our humanity in our day to day jobs. The objective is not to save the world because that is realistically impossible but in our own jobs, we can make a very small difference I someone’s life. That is a concept that I have learned from helping the children during the missionary trips and that I have applied to all my jobs whether as a waitress in a local family restaurant to retail banking. Helping people is the heart of my mission in this world. If I can continue to help people even in the simplest task, then my mission on earth would be fulfilled. I plan on continuing my studies in criminal justice because it allows me to encounter opportunities in public service to help individuals throughout my
As an undergraduate student at the University of New Mexico I have become increasingly aware of the complex network problems that I face as a citizen of the world. I have also realized the progress and success that I enjoy in the same capacity as the frontiers of medicine, technology and communication continue to expand. My desire to participate in the resolution of those problems and in the further expansion of those frontiers had inspired me to seek a degree in biology and entrance into a School of Dentistry. I intend to successfully complete program of dentistry and further my specialization in the area of endodontics. Upon completion of my
Whenever the term legacy is invoked in conversation it elicits many different responses. What is it that makes a person have a legacy that will endure long after he or she has breathed their last breath? In my judgement there are several factors that enable a person to have a long lasting impact on others. There are several key attributes that I feel contribute in the greatest manner of developing a person into who they are and into the professional and the leader they were destined to become. As I take an in-depth view of myself and evaluate the abilities that I possess, there are areas I must identify to improve upon whether strengths or weaknesses. The strengths are my endurance, compassion, and leadership,
Hmmm………What shall I tell you about me? You, the person who will decide my fate, my fate as to whether I would go to CU-Boulder, go live in Colorado, go snowboarding in the mountains, meet lots of interesting people, and have the most wonderful experience…I better make myself sound worthy. First off, I want you to know that I'm an unparalleled individual, whose outlook on life is of total optimism. Through out my 18 years, I've become freinds with people from all walks of life. I've learned to empathize with just about every one of them, gaining the greatest understanding in a variety of remarkable characters. One of my favorite, a homeless lady who's called Polly, tells the most incredible stories of love and the many
My vision as an undergraduate student of the Haskayne School of Business (HSB) is to become a well-rounded influential leader and equip myself with a set of skills and values that will enhance me as an individual in my career. Thus, my goal is to succeed academically and socially, graduating with a distinction and having built strong relationships.
Pursing a career as a medical doctor is an opportunity for me to mentor youth in underserved populations. As a child, I was raised in the low income, urban community of Roxbury, MA. Although not as notorious today, the neighborhood had garnered negative attention for its high crime rates. My mother emigrated from Haiti and raised me as a single parent. Due to our financial circumstance, Roxbury became our permanent residence. I have always felt there was something lacking in Roxbury in comparison to other towns I visited. My teenage years were largely spent in the suburban town of Stoneham where I attended high school. There was a literal difference in air quality and a psychology contrast in future prospects. While native students of
There are few certainties of what one will encounter during life. A common joke names two: death and
I was born the fourth of December 1991 in Cranbrook British Columbia. I lived there for 18 years. Before joining the military I worked as a fry cook at a Burger King for three years and held part time jobs working for the College of the Rockies summer camp programs during the summer. My parents are currently living together in Cranbrook BC. My father works outside the province testing railway tracks for two months at a time, then returns home for two to three weeks. My mother acts as the main contact point of the family, she works as a financial clerk. I have a 22 year old sister who will be attending university in Calgary this September. I attended Mount Baker Secondary School in Cranbrook and graduated in 2009
I, Moin Ahmed and my spouse Ismat Ara, continuing our married life since August 22, 2014. I have been working in a prestigious university, as a Lecture since April 8, 2012, and getting a lump sum salary. My organization already provided me No Objection Certificate which is attached with this application and there it is mentioned that, my institution will have no objection if I go abroad to reunite with my spouse, and I will get leave of absence and will be able to join in the same organization after coming back in my country. This NOC is giving me the opportunity to apply for this visa and accompany my wife in her hard times when she is struggling to cope up with a new culture and new environment.
Some of the values that children’s home holds at the core of their mission is integrity, stewardship, respect, and opportunity. What I thought was the most crucial thing that the home tries to achieve for each child, is to help them develop a sense of self-reliance, order and fulfillment, during a very turbulent time in each of the kids lives. Helping the kids find some form of order in their lives is vital to keep them stable and provide them with some sort of comfort or
Ever since I was a young girl I have always felt the need to help others, not only does it benefit them but the feeling I get from being able to impact another individual’s life positively is one of the best feelings I have ever felt. One of my favorite ways of doing this is by volunteering with a program called Give Every Child A Chance. GECAC is a non-profit tutoring program for children who struggle with different subjects in school. I volunteered for them for a total of about 3-4 years, and eventually during my senior year of high school I received the opportunity to work for them. This was my first time working, and although I was very nervous I knew it was something I had to do more of. In the program, I see my students twice a week for
This is Mary McLeod Bethune School of North Lawndale in Chicago, and I am the new principle this year. Due to the poor economy around the school, things have been left to the way side, but I pray help give some hope back. Students are set back and 8th grade for some are their big celebration but I want to see them graduate high school. I want to be sitting in the audience at high school graduation and go those are my kids. Some issues at Bethune are based in the school makeup and location, teachers, readings levels, and the children encouragement.
Did you know that nearly 700,000 children experience abuse each year? CASA’s mission is to give every abused or neglected child an opportunity to have a safe permanent home. According to CASA, there are 280,316 abused and neglected children that have a CASA volunteer speaking for their best interests. Unfortunately, there are 432,677 children still waiting for a volunteer who is dedicated to finding them a safe, loving permanent home. I am too young to foster a child; however I found a way to give back to such an inspiring organization. I collect donations from members in my community to help the children in foster care experience simple things that we take for granted such as Christmas and birthday parties. The donations go to the foster parents and assists in purchasing gifts or party supplies. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the young girls and boys involved and hope to continue helping the foster care families in the future!
Working with children has been a motivating force for me to continue on my journey as as a student. While studying at my community college, I obtained a preschool teaching permit so that I could teach preschool and I also have been a behavior interventionist working hands on with Autistic children. I am inspired because, I also have a learning disability and I know the struggles that it takes to be successful. I have dyscalculia, a math disability. Being a student with this is not easy, but never let it stifle me from being the best teacher and student I can be, and without the help of great teachers, I might have never had the chance to achieve my dreams of becoming a Sociology student at UCLA. So I want to give back. This is what inspires
In our lives, we have to make important choices, and sometimes our choices determine our happiness or sadness. As a Filipino, our families tell us to do well in school and to not make bad choices because they want us to be successful and to have ethical morals. Growing up as a Catholic, I was taught to be obedient and respectful to my family which has shaped who I am today. Yet, I too made some mistakes, and I learned from the consequences. From my failures, I learned to not belittle myself, but to grow.
I have a wide range of skills and knowledge that I have acquired throughout my personal and professional life. I can communicate with different types of people regardless of age, race or class. I have accessed a huge range of courses that have enabled me to develop interpersonal skills including negotiation and dealing with different types of people and personalities. I also have the knowledge, drive and enthusiasm to work alone when required as I am self-motivated and can meet targets and deadlines. I believe that challenges are best met positively by developing and improving knowledge and skills and through professional reflective dialogue that leads to change. I am very hard-working and reliable. I work well under pressure achieving a high standard of work. I have practical and organisational skills and I can find solutions to problems and face challenges confidently.
