Hemingway: Ernest Hemingway was one of America’s best authors. He started out writing many articles, and then even novels fro some of his lifetime experiences. Hemingway was a great influence on American society. Although Hemingway had many misfortunes in his life, he was a great writer. Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899 to Clarence and Grace Hemingway in Oak Park, Illinois. He had five siblings; Marcelline, Ursula, Madelaine, Carol, and Leicester. During his lifetime, Hemingway wrote over four-hundred articles for various newspaper companies, as well as completing ten novels, four nonfiction books, over one-hundred short stories, a play, and ninety poems. He lived there for a short period of time before moving to Chicago to work for the monthly journal, Cooperative Commonwealth. While in Chicago, he met his first wife, Hadley Richardson, and they were married in September of 1921. After Chicago, Hemingway and Hadley decided to move to Europe and travel for a little while. While in Paris, Hemingway met many authors and artists. While travelling, he wrote articles for different newspapers and began some of his short stories and novels, including The Sun Also Rises. However, his devotion to writing led to Hadley and his divorce in 1927. However, Hemingway was not affected by this divorce because he had met who would soon be his next wife, Pauline Pfeiffer. Hemingway and Pauline left Europe in 1928 to move to Key West. In the next five years, Hemingway’s father committed suicide, Hemingway and Pauline had two children, and both of them continued travelling to the Caribbean and parts of Europe. In 1937, Hemingway returned to war when he took on a job reporting about the Spanish American War. During this time, he met Martha Gellhorn, his soon-to-be third wife, and divorced Pauline Pfeiffer. He also reported on World War II and was part of the D-Day Invasion. During WWII, Hemingway and Gellhorn’s relationship diminished and they split in 1945.
