Switching to Switchgrass
Henry Ford, in 1925, dubbed biofuels “the fuel of the future”. Today, Mr. Ford’s prediction is coming true because biofuels are proving to be one of the most promising sources of alternative energy. Biofuels are popular because they only release the CO2 that was collected during photosynthesis. They solve many of the problems that fossil fuels present: greenhouse gases, emissions, resource depletion, and foreign oil dependency. On the other hand, biofuel production has drawbacks such as resource requirements, air and groundwater pollution, and usage of space. The best material to invest in as a biofuel company is switchgrass lignocellulose, using the process of catalytic pyrolysis to better combat the fuel crisis.

Whale oil was also extensively used in the 1700’s and 1800’s, and was the fuel of choice for many homes around the world. Then, in 1828, the first internal combustion engine to be patented in the U.S. was designed to run on a blend of ethanol and turpentine. However, while fossil fuels became popular because of their low cost and abundance of materials, the sales of biofuels dropped. Luckily, during World War I, there was a shortage of fossil fuels, and it was discovered that ethanol could be mixed with gasoline to produce a usable fuel source. More recently, the United States also became interested in biofuels during the 1973 and 1979 oil embargoes, when petroleum prices rose dramatically. In May 2009, President Obama established the Biofuels Interagency Working Group. This interagency approach accelerated the investment in biofuels. As a company, we must make the next step in the progression of …show more content…
On the other hand, switchgrass combustion can release sulfur dioxide which can cause acid rain (Qin et al.18). Switchgrass also has an incredible good EROEI of 5.4 (Kogel), and is a sustainable crop that can be grown continuously. In terms of land, a farmer would have to plant 342 acres producing 0.5 tons of dry mass per acre per day to meet the required revenue (Mitchell et al., 2008). Also, switchgrass is feasible in drought, flood, and other harsh conditions. Overall, switchgrass provides incredible economic and environmental benefits. Therefore, we recommend
Wendell Ford was born on September 8, 1924 in Daviess County, Kentucky, and, after graduating from Daviess County High School in 1942, attended the University of Kentucky. Two years later, Ford enlisted in the army and served for two years before his honorable discharge in the summer of 1946 and continued to serve in the National Guard until 1962 (Quisenberry). He married Jean Neel on September 18, 1943; he has two children and five grandchildren (Kentucky).
This essay is about a man named Henry ford who joined the car industries that got a company named after him and got built the first car the ford modal a. before he made the ford modal a though he make other cars the model t and the model tt. They also built a motorized carriage when they first started the company. Also after that they built some famous cars like the mustang and the maverick. There were lots of other things that were built by him and his childhood will be found in this essay.
The Ford Motor Company is an automotive manufacturer that was started in the late 1900’s. Many people have run the Ford Motor Company but the founder Henry Ford, he was unlike any other. Henry Ford’s imagination was unlike any other and his brain could come up with some of the greatest things. Until the day Mr. Ford died he created and succeeded in the automotive world and never failed to give to America.
On a breezy spring day in 1868 in Childersburg, Alabama, James Ford sat in on the steps of the New Baptist Church meditating on how he is going to support his wife, Mabel, and his daughter, Dixie. He wasn’t sure how to survive in this place since his rights as a citizen were being withheld from him, even though he was no longer a slave after the 13th amendment abolished it. He was a freed man after that piece of legislation passed. Although in the eyes of the white southern men, he was still viewed the same whether he was in shackles or not. As James pondered about the various ways to become treated like a real citizen, the people of the Freedmen’s Bureau begin to ascend the steps carrying crates full
Switching from the expensive oil to alternative fuels has moved from a dream to reality. Today, there are dozens of alternatives to oil that are currently available us to be used. One alternative to oil that is being used more today is ethanol. Derived from plant materials, ethanol can be a cheaper, cleaner alternative to the gasoline that our vehicles run off. When going to gas pumps, one will notice that much of the gasoline is up to 10 percent of ethanol. According to our text, most ethanol in the U.S. is made from corn, yet ethanol can be made from any biomes-- including garbage. (Turk & Bensel, 2011)
Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. was the 38th President of the United States. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Ford went from being a son of divorcees to the leader of a nation.
I don’t know about you, but I love sports. Whether we’re playing, or just watching, I enjoy sports. Yet here at Rocky Ford Jr. Sr. High school, we don’t have that many sports. We have the basic sports such as, basketball, baseball, wrestling football etc. However, there are simple solutions when it comes to sports.
Imagine how life would be if our society did not have cars. Today, our society is dependent on cars for our daily routines. From transporting our food, clothes, and technology to just going to the store across the street, cars are a very important part of our society. In the 19th century, only the wealthy and upper middle class had access to automobiles, and they only used cars for fancy transportation and to show off their money. This was due to the extreme prices of cars in the 19th century. With these high prices not many people could afford them, especially not the working class. Henry Ford revolutionized the automotive industry in the
Louis Chevrolet was a Swiss born racer that migrated to America because of what he wanted to be and the name we hear today. Chevrolet also known as Louise who took birth in Bernese Jura Region of La Chaux De Fonds, Switzerland, he died on June 6th, 1941, in Michigan, United States. Father of Chevrolet, Joeseph Felcian was a watch and clockmaker. Chevrolet dad Joseph Felician Chevrolet was a watch and clockmaker. Chevrolet started learning basic mechanic skills from his father, Joesph started repairing bikes which further led to the invention of his own bike. Chevrolet had built bikes in his spare times and he had sell them by the name Frontenac. In Addition, “An early account said he was impatient with the slow decanting of wine from cask to cask so he invented a wine barrel pump that speeded the process and was used extensively in the
A major part of history started during the Industrial Revolution when Henry Ford founded The Ford Motor Company. Ford’s family had a part in the company with ideas and presidency. The first ideas of the company came out of Ford’s backyard with him using a bicycle to make a vehicle. The assembly line had a big impact that affected other companies by making production much faster. A wide variety of vehicles made patrons be interested in seeing what kind of inventions could be made next. Ford had a lot of great inventions still used today, like things that sped up production and made products more durable.
Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863 in Wayne county, Michigan. He was the son of Irish immigrants, William and Mary Ford, who had settled on a farm in Dearborn. In addition to helping his father with the harvest, Ford also attended school in a one-room schoolhouse. However, Ford disliked both school and farm life, and at age 16, he walked to Detroit in search of employment.
Over the past several years, scientists have researched the impact fossil fuels currently have on our world today. These sources of energy have an irreversible and devastating consequence on our environment. Fossil fuels are disliked due to being non-renewable and unsustainable. As more technological advancements have occurred, more efforts have arisen related to replacing fossil fuels with renewable sources of energy. Due to the integration of existing technology the public has become reluctant to adopt new energy technologies. Renewable energy brings many desirable health, environmental, and economic benefits. These renewable methods may ultimately provide a brighter future for generations to come.
The content of Dr. Lobban’s lecture best correlates with standard five, “The importance, changes, meaning, modification, use (and distribution) of natural resources.” Within the context of biofuels, biomass is important as a natural resource because it’s at the heart of the entire process. As hard as it may be to believe, the viscous liquid that results from pyrolysis was once switchgrass. Biomass is changing in the sense that researchers are finding more and more ways to generate renewable energy from it. Even the research itself is evolving as the focus shifts towards the creation of petrochemicals. Who would’ve thought grass could be used to produce plastic? However, it is vital not to forget than biomass supplies, while renewable, can be overdrawn in the same way as petroleum. This process of energy
For over forty years now, scientists and researchers have been tirelessly searching for an alternative to fossil fuels. Biofuels have become an interesting contender in the search for the replacement of the non-renewable energy source. Biofuels have been used throughout history for over thousands of years. There is a large debate over biofuels and its true impact on the environment. Those involved in the discussion debating whether biofuels have any real overwhelming benefits compared to fossil fuels could argue for its usage. According to recent research performed by the University of Michigan, biofuels may not be the best alternative for fossil fuels. Regardless of its impact on the environment, biofuels are becoming more popular particularly when the price of oil rises.
In the world of global warming, all kinds of pollution and fuel shortages going on, renewable and clean/ green energy is increasingly the ideal solution of energy related problems we have to solve one way or another. Biofuel is one of the mainstream and highly supported solutions nowadays, an idea to make renewable fuel by living organisms such as fiber, corn, vegetable oil or sugar cane. Unlike nonrenewable fossil fuels over extracted by people causing various environmental problems like generating a considerable amount greenhouse gas, current technology already lets renewable fuel like biofuels to shrink a certain amount of greenhouse gas production, making it a more ‘clean’ source of energy.
