People wish for a utopian world where there is no danger of any kind, but sadly that world does not exist. The world that has been provided is full of danger and people who are very obdurate, unwilling to change, sometimes in a criminal way, and think that even if what they are doing is wrong that can somehow get away with it. That is where heros come in. Heroes are people who are known for their deeds of some sort and are not the type to work covertly like spys, because if they did what would the world recognize and praise. Heroes or the idea of heroes has always been around and have been real or fictitious. For example Hercules from the time of the ancient Greeks is fictional while in modern times some people consider firefighters for soldiers
Everyone has their own idea of what a hero is and what a hero does. Most people think that guys like superman and batman are heroes because they have incredible superpowers and they are famous people who receive glory. Many people describe heroes as strong and indestructible people, however, heroes are actually not always famous and they are not always the way that society portrays them. In fact, most heroes are ordinary people who do extraordinary things and have notable traits for society to follow. Although heroes are mostly overlooked or misinterpreted by many people, a hero is always a courageous, selfless, and persistent person who has the determination to create change for the better.
Heroes can be defined in many forms. The classical heroes are strong and care about the other feelings. Their strength help them to fight with monsters and other mythological creatures. Because they have compassion for the others, they usually risk their own life to save people, just like Perseus did to save Andromeda. On the other hand, the modern-day heroes face
Today in society there are many individuals who can be described as heroic because of their courageous actions towards helping others. People who do not believe in heroes today do not see the change happening around the world for the benefits of future generations. However, in reality many individuals are risking their own lives to fight for what they believe in and for the change they wish to see in this world. Alfred de Vigny asserts that there are no heroes in this world, but even ancient stories like Beowulf provide examples of heroes who risk their lives to save others while we do still have heroes during modern-day times.
Heroes are so much more than people that fly around in capes and fight off villains, heroes can be everyday people that just want to help. Take the movie Hacksaw Ridge for example. In the movie there is a character named Desmond T. Doss, Desmond decides to join the army during WWII as an Army Medic but not only does he want to join the army but he refuses to carry a gun do to his religious beliefs. At first the Army would not let him join unless he used a gun because they all thought he was crazy and did not know how he was going to survive.
Oliver Stone once wrote, who he saw his heroes as“ Sciences who spend years of their lives trying to find cures...The inner-city kid who works at McDonald’s instead of selling drugs. The kid who stands alone instead of joining a gang, which would give him instant identity...People who take risks despite fears. People in wheelchairs who don't give up…”. (SB, pg.64) Heroes are people who choose the right no matter the situation. Making sacrifices for others benefit, being determined to rise over challenges, and not being perfect instead making mistakes are just some of the traits that make a hero.
The notion of heroes is one that transcends time and space. Examples of heroes appear in almost every culture and time period since humans first started writing. Even the very first piece of literature written in the English language, Beowulf, is a classic example of a heroic archetype. We can also see examples of heroes in today's culture, such as in Bonnie Tyler’s song “Holding Out For a Hero” and in Tina Turner’s “We Don’t Need Another Hero”. Additionally, we make predictions of what we think heroes may be like in the future, like in the movie Mad Max:
What is a hero? A hero is not somebody with the ability to fly, run really fast, or control other people's minds,... A hero is a random person that rises to the occasion and performs the action(s) of superhero proportions. “The only use of an obstacle is to be overcome. All that an obstacle does with brave men is, not to frighten them, but to challenge them.” (Woodrow Wilson). I agree with Woodrow that to be truly heroic, one must have leaderships, bravery, intelligence,... to solve common problems in our society. There are many examples of heroes in our modern day world as well as fictional characters. For instances, Odysseus in the Odyssey, Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit and my mom have those characteristics of heroism.
Heros come in all shapes and sizes, some use powers or brute strength to save lives while others use their intelligence. Stories have been written and movies made about amazing super heros saving lives from evil villains, but there have also been stories written about the everday heros, like the soldiers who fight to keep a country safe from the enemy. While these soldiers might not have superpowers to fight the opposing side they still go in fighting knowing that they may die, but they do so anyway for the ones they love. Some heros fight for the same reasons, like Beowulf and Superman.
Everyone has somehow been a hero to someone, in one point of their life, even though they may not have known at the time or was recognized for it. They may have shown heroic qualities or stood up for someone, maybe even for people who were too shy to do it themselves. Heroes are quick-thinking, determined people that put the needs of others before themselves, like Rosa Parks because of her refusal to move seats on the bus. But, heroes don’t wear capes or special costumes, like in movies, they are just typical, ordinary people. Heroes are quick-thinking, determined people, that put the needs of others before themselves.
A hero can be known from anything by just showing their loyalty and faith.heros will do anything to keep their communtiy and workhard to keep people out of trouble too. Kids get movisted to do good things by their integrity and citenship. Not only they tried to make the communtiry better, they also want to show a good example to people like love ones. Peole can become a hero anytime from one simple
Hercules (the last mortal son of zeus) is one of the greatest heroes of Greece and the most admired. He is best known as the most robust of all mortals and stronger than many of the gods. Although he is highly based off of emotions and having a noticeable lack of intelligence, I am still drawn to his many admirable qualities. Hercules has extraordinary strength and courage. When Hera drove him mad making him kill his wife and three sons in spite of being a son of her unfaithful husband, he sought purification not his own death. He is a hero not only for his strength but he helped save towns from evil monsters like the hydra. Hercules also had a strong sense of self-confidence and bravery. For these traits I praise him greatly.
When you hear the word "hero", you probably think of a person in a cape, right? Well, not all heroes look like superheroes. In fact, most "heroes" are everyday people. As stated in the Oxford Dictionary, a hero is a person who is admired for their courage, achievements, or noble qualities. This definition of hero is a good description of people in service. Being brave in the face of danger, fighting for a great cause, and living selfless lives are all things that military members do.
A hero makes the world around them a better place, but only through pure and just ways. They never compromise to the wants of others. But people don’t realize this. They think becoming stupidly brave, and trying to beat up criminals makes them a hero! Sure, they have pure intentions and, make the world safer. But they do so through unjust and cruel means. Not heroic. But once society believes this ‘hero’ image it opens up a Pandora’s Box of issues. Newspapers slap the title of hero onto every brave soul who helps a kitten out of a tree. People vote for a president who promises to destroy the lives of millions around the world. We believe that heroes surround us and that they will always save the day But in reality, we can’t count on heroes. We just can’t. We can’t count on something when we don’t even know it’s true nature. Popular culture has so overused the word ‘hero’ that people no longer recognize a real hero when they see it. The ‘hero’ has become tainted by violence and a Machiavellian attitude of anything goes.
Heroes are prevalent in everyone’s life. Whether someone’s hero is a living person or a fabled character from a movie, everybody has come into contact with some sort of hero. In fact, the concept of heroes has existed for hundreds of years, dating all the way back to Ancient Greece. Over time, heroes have drastically changed. As society has evolved, our heroes have evolved with it. Their goals and motivations have changed to coincide with the views of modern society. Modern day heroes have less selfish motives, better qualities, and are portrayed differently than ancient heroes.
What is a modern day hero and how do they hide themselves in everyday life with the rest of the world? Modern day heroes do an amazing job at blending in with society by disguising themselves as “Unknown Civilians” (W.H Audon) who partake in everyday life. These heroes use their strength for the greater good by working hard in society and finding jobs that need someone willing to work their body into the ground. Along with everything else, these hidden gems are amazing family members who are always willing to do just about anything to treat their family and friends to better lives.
