Yes "Had he first seen Hermia when he awoke, the blunder Puck committed would have been of no consequence, for he could not love that faithful lady too well; but for poor Lysander to be forced by a fairy love-charm to forget his own true Hermia, and to run after another lady, and leave Hermia asleep quite alone in a wood at midnight, was a sad chance indeed." "When Hermia awoke, she was in a sad fright at finding herself alone. She wandered about the wood, not knowing what was become of Lysander, or which way to go to seek for him. In the meantime Demetrius, not being able to find Hermia and his rival Lysander, and fatigued with his fruitless search, was observed by Oberon fast asleep. Oberon had learnt by some questions he had asked of Puck,
When Puck begins to interact with the four lovers very shortly after, however, Egeus's ridiculous accusations of Lysander bewitching Hermia take an ironic echo as Oberon bewitches Titania with a love potion, suddenly bringing the ridiculousness of Egeus's statements into a new light. Puck, the perpetrator,
Hermia of course is in love with Lysander , and Lysander is in love with Hermia. But there is also, Demetrius who is also in love with Hermia and Helena who is in love with Demetrius. They have been through many obstacles, like in the Act 3 scene 2. After Puck put the love potion on Lysander and he fell in love with Helena, he has followed her around nonstop. As Helena goes to find Hermia, Lysander follows close behind. “Lys: Why should you think that I should woo in scorn? Hel: You do advance your cunning more and more.” This is Lysander and Helena talking to each other, Lysander saying why would I mock you if I love you and Helena saying you just get better and better at your jokes, but in a sarcastic way. This shows the relationship between Hermia and Helena in Shakespeare's a Midsummer’s Night Dream.
Hermia’s speech in Act 2, Scene 2, of Shakespeare 's A Midsummer Night’s Dream, contains an abundance of dream imagery. She has awoken from a terrible dream after falling asleep in the forest with Lysander. They were lost and tired so they decided to rest. Lysander wanted to sleep beside her but, she refused since they are not yet married and while they slept Puck applied a love potion on Lysander’s eyes thinking he was Demetrius. Lysander wakes and is repulsed by the sight of Hermia and never wants to see her again because he is now in love with Helena. Hermia awakes from her terrible dream and retells it thinking that Lysander is nearby listening. Then she realizes that he is not there and she does not see him anywhere. Hermia expresses the sentiment that she will find Lysander or she will surely die. She stated,
Puck who was Oberon’s servant did control Lysander and Demetrius by making them fall in love with Helena. In act two scene two, Puck put juice into Lysander's eyes. “This is he my master said, Despised the Athenian maid: And here is the maiden sleeping sound… Churl upon the eyes I throw all the power this charm doth owe. When thou wak’st, let love forbid” (2.2, lines 73-79). In act 2 scene two, after Puck puts the juice on Lysander he wakes up and he falls in love with Helena. “Transparent Helena, nature shows her art that through thy bosom makes me see thy heart”( 2.2, lines 104-105). Even though Lysander and Demetrius were now both in love with Helena, they were both being controlled by the potions, not Puck. When people are under control with magic they have no idea what's going on. Puck, in the end, did not truly control Lysander and
Though Puck adds much humor to the play while tormenting and drugging the lovers in the forest, he also acts as a catalyst in redirecting their devotions among one-another, thus demonstrating the fickle nature of love. For example, Lysander, who in one instant is blindly in love with his fair Hermia, will suddenly wake to find himself obsessed with
The American dream is very important to many people and it is one of the reasons people move to this country. Even though mostly everybody can have the American dream, some people think it is gone. In the article who still believes in the American dream, Karen Tallulah said “the American Dream is dead because nobody has values anymore.”this is showing that when she lived the American dream she had values that give her it, but nobody has values so they can't have the dream. On other reason is that people think the dream is all materialistic like in the article “What is the American Dream” it states “American Dream has become the pursuit of material prosperity - that people work more hours to get bigger cars, fancier homes, the fruits of prosperity
Eqeus attempts to steal Hermia’s free will through the Athenian Law. For example, “Full of vexation come I, with complaint against my child, my daughter Hermia” (1.1, 23-34, Shakespeare). In this quote, Eqeus is attempting to steal Hermia’s free will. Eqeus is explaining to Theseus that Hermia is disobeying his command. Hermia wishes to marry Lysander, but her father wants her to marry Demetrius. Therefore, Eqeus is attempting to strip Hermia of her free will and use power to carry out his actions. Furthermore, in Act Two, Shakespeare incorporates fairies. The reader is introduced to Puck, Oberon, and Titania. Oberon, the king of the fairies, Titania, the queen of the fairies, and Puck, a servant. Using lines, “Churl, upon thy eyes I throw all the power this charm doth owe” (2.2, 78-79, Shakespeare), the reader learns fairies can use magic to manipulate free will. Puck placed a love potion on Lysander’s eyes, which results in chaos. The lines, “Where is Demetrius? O, how fit a word. Is that vile name to perish on my sword!” (2.2, 106-107, Shakespeare), show this chaos, Lysander now wishes to kill Demetrius for
Not everyone in America has the money they need to get by, or to live how they want to. Americans of low class can’t compete against those of high class. While some people can achieve The American Dream, others struggle with just living. With the right mindset, anyone can achieve the dream. Like many others, I can see the difference in class, just from how people behave. Money and class affects how each person is treated as an individual, rather than who they are.
In the play, A Midsummer Night’s dream, Hermia, Egeus’s daughter is denied to wed her love Lysander, but has to comply with her father’s wishes and marry Demetrius. Infuriated, Hermia runs off with Lysander to his aunt’s house, sick of the Athenian law. As the lovers wander off into the forest, Helena, who is madly in love with Demetrius, tells him about the whereabouts of Hermia. In another part of the forest, Oberon, king of fairies meets Titania, the queen of fairies, arguing for a changeling child from India. When Titania refuses to give him up, Oberon plans revenge, by hiring Robin Goodfellow, also known as “Puck”, to retrieve a magical love flower, anointing her eyes and Demetrius’s, feeling bad for Helena after how Demetrius had treated her. Accidentally, Puck spreads it on Lysander’s eyes, creating major conflicts, later being resolved as the 4 lovers get married.
The American Dream is the belief that every person in the United States has an equal opportunity to become successful. However, some people are not entitled to the American Dream. Many Americans are not treated equally under the law. Some of the groups lose their right to vote, have a more difficult time finding jobs, or are a group that has been forgotten by politicians. The American Dream is a controversial issue today because many groups in America have claimed that they have not received the chance to have it. Some of the groups that are marginalized are women, people of color, and immigrants that have come to America.
The American Dream is the idea that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work and determination. My grandmother, Rosa Lemus is the embodiment of hard work and determination. My grandmother was born in the impoverished country of Honduras, where she was the eldest of eleven children. Initially, my grandmother was a star student throughout her primary schooling as she was given many awards and honors for her academics. However, financial pressure to help put food on the table forced her to drop out of school at the age thirteen, her parents thought of school as a want, not a need. My grandmother began making a living as a seamstress making dresses and tailoring clothes for people around her area, that still was not enough to make ends meet for her family. This went on for years, my grandmother dedicated her youth to help her parents raise her siblings and bringing home food on the table. My grandmother had dreams, dreams of one day being able to provide a better future for her family, she knew what she needed to do. Once my grandmother had children of her own, she realized that the only way she would be able to provide for them would be in America, the land of opportunities. She traveled in the pouring rain while crossing the border in Salvador, ventured through the humid jungles of Guatemala, and endured the scorching heat in Mexico. My grandmother was willing to suffer and endure many hardships alone to reach this country. Once she was able to have stability, she also brought her four children to the states with the help of my grandfather, who was her boyfriend at the time. Life was not as easy in America as she imagined, there were four other mouths to feed along with herself, not to mention rent. Some people would give up in the face of adversities such as this, however, my grandmother rose to the occasion and tackled these adversities head on. My grandmother earned an honest living, which helped provide stability for her children. She was able to achieve this by working two jobs day in and day out for about ten to twelve years. She got very little sleep and cried on bus rides from job to job. Despite facing harsh obstacles, my grandmother came
Above all the tensions created by the discussion of marriage, Lysander deliver a quotes to his love Hermia. “The course of true love never did run smooth…” (Act 1, Scene 1, line 134) is a famous quote by Lysander. In the quote he conveys to readers that love is not perfect, it also has its ups and downs and that he and Hermia are going through a tough situation. Hermia and Lysander both love each other and have made a plan to meet in a forest and then escape Athens however the problem arises when Hermia has tells Helena this and she plans to tell Demetrius about this so that he will love her and not Hermia. The King of fairies− Oberon hears all this and decides to settle the dispute between all of them. He instructs his assistant Robin Goodfellow to search for Demetrius and put the love juice on his eyelids so that he is compelled to love Helena, he informs him about the dressing style of Demetrius in "thou shalt know the man by the Athenian garments he hath on" (Act 2, Scene 1, line 263-264). However there is a problem, in the forest there are two Athenian men dressed in Athenian garments and their identities were mistaken; instead of putting the love juice on Demetrius's eyelids Robin Goodfellow put it on Lysander's eyelids. Now Lysander "loves" Helena and wants to get away from Hermia. After discovering Robin Goodfellow's mistake, Oberon tries to correct this mistake by putting the same love juice in Demetrius's so that he loves Helena eyes however
The words that Cassandra shouts as she is led toward her death present a curiously incomprehensible riddle. At first, everything seems to make sense: Agamemnon correlates to the bull and Clytemnestra to the cow, but when we look at passage more closely, we see that Cassandra describes the cow as the one having the horn that gores the bull, and, even more curious, the horn isn’t white, but black. I suggest that this passage, or riddle, reveals the conflation and shifting of gender roles as demonstrated the king and his queen, as Agamemnon is often interpreted as effeminate and Clytemnestra masculine. Furthermore, the most bizarre part of the passage is the black horn. I think it represents the crux of Clytemnestra’s power, as a horn is a marker of maleness in cattle, it marks Clytemnestra’s strong masculine power; that the horn is black, though, situates it in the realm of feminine power and control, as black is the color of the feminine earth, where the Furies reside.
The American Dream is the fundamental building blocks that have molded this country into the diverse powerhouse it is today. "Life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or circumstances of birth.” (Adams), is the widely excepted definition of the American Dream. James Truslow Adams was an American author in the early nineteen-hundreds who wrote Epic of America. The American Dream is rooted deep into the countries past and is still achievable in the present day.
The two ran in the woods, got lost, and settled down to rest until the morning. Hermia's love was still deep for Lysander, but she was not comfortable sleeping directly next to him. This showed that she still had her morals in tact and she made him sleep further away from her. As morning came, Lysander awoke before Hermia and, abandoned her because he was under the spell. When Hermia woke up and saw that her true love was missing, she quickly went to find him. Hermia never gave up on her love for Lysander. She only wanted him and nothing was going to stop her. Astonishingly she was able to pass all of the obstacles in her way and still retain the love for Lysander.
