The relationship between heroes and monster can be revealed in Beowulf and Grendel. Both the epic poem talks about how goodness conquers evil, in life good is more powerful than evil. Beowulf is the hero of all. He has courage, strength, and is considered the prince of the Geats. He always stand by his word no matter what happened, no matter if he must risk his physical integrity for it. He likes to be there for the people that need his help to be saved from the evil. He is willing to risk his own life in order to save the life of his ideals, and that selfless help identifies his heroic identity and character. With fate and strength by his side nothing could stop him. There were two kingdoms in this story that were overcome by evil. The People tried to fight back but it was no match for such an evil. The attitudes and actions between various monsters and humans show that Beowulf is a story comprised of battles putting good against evil.

During the Anglo-Saxon times, monsters represented evil, because of this; Beowulf is looked at as a hero because he was able to defeat these monsters. Beowulf is perceived as a hero for his strength, because he demonstrated it when he was able to defeat Grendel by ripping its arm off with his bare hands. Although each monster may be evil, they all have a purpose on why they act or do what they do.
There is a hero and a villain in every story, we have: Batman and The Joker, Spider-Man and The Green Goblin, Thor and Loki, and of course Beowulf and Grendel. In the epic “Beowulf” our two main characters are Beowulf the hero of the story, and Grendel the evil demon who terrorized the world. In the epic, Beowulf and Grendel are noticeably different, but at the same time alike in many ways. The people in the story may not have notice the similarities, but they could not be hidden from the peering eye of the reader.
