Everyone has heroism, but how? Heroes are everywhere including chaos and order. Not everyone is a hero but everyone can be a hero if they choose. There will always be chaos and there will always be order that's a fact but heroism is interrelated to that.
There are two main types of heroes just like chaos and order. Stereotypical Heroes can be related to chaos and the Unlikely Hero can be related to order. Mainly Stereotypical heroes are related to chaos because of electronics. People have been lead to think that heroes are people with superpowers that are either super strong or have some special ability. Most of the time these types of heroes fight chaos but could an Unlikely Hero fight chaos as well?
The other type of hero, the Unlikely
What is a hero? A hero might not be the flying ,fictitious and fabricated forteller of good that humanity has decided upon. Everyone is the protagonist of their own story therefor a hero could be anyone from any place or time; no matter how strange their circumstances. According to merriam-webster dictionary heroism is an act of great courage. Meaning heroism is facing a great fear while being fully aware of the danger.
Heroism can be defined a courageous act or great bravery. It can come from any individual, one does not have to be special or have a heroic moment. He/she may consider an individual like a parent, family member or friend a hero. Others may see policeman, firefighters, paramedics and our military to be our heroes. Altruism can be a synonym for heroism, as the reaction of risking your life to save another. The one, to help another without expecting anything in return, displays heroism.
Heroes can be defined in many forms. The classical heroes are strong and care about the other feelings. Their strength help them to fight with monsters and other mythological creatures. Because they have compassion for the others, they usually risk their own life to save people, just like Perseus did to save Andromeda. On the other hand, the modern-day heroes face
The essence of a hero cannot be encompassed by a single definition. Heroes may work through chaos to help provide order or cause chaos and disruption so that they are able to improve upon the order already set in place. An example of the former may be Martin Luther King Jr, whereas the latter may be Malcolm X. Martin Luther King Jr. worked peacefully for equal rights while Malcolm X fought for the same. Despite their drastically different approaches to the issue, they are both heroes.
Are there heroes in today’s society? No one thinks of themselves as a hero, but it does not take any special skills to be a hero because anyone can be a hero. The characteristics of a hero only show up when there is a time of need such as a major catastrophe or minor incidents that happen on a daily basis. During the twenty-first century there have been quite a few major catastrophes. The major catastrophes include the 9/11 attacks, two major hurricanes (Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy), and the Boston marathon bombing. There are also several different major and minor characteristics that a hero will show in times of need. For instance some major characteristics of a hero are perseverance/determination, bravery/courage, dedication/endurance, and selflessness/sacrifice. Some minor characteristics include humility, fearlessness, skill, strength, integrity, and intrepidity (Wanamaker, 2013). In the twenty-first century the 9/11 attacks is the first major catastrophe. During this major disaster there were quite a few individuals who helped to rescue people. There were heroes in each of the three crash sites that occurred on that very eventful day.
Not every hero wears a cape or tights, nor do they all have superpowers. Being a hero does not mean you have to be a crime fighter or a warrior. Heroism comes with the good that you do, and helping people and wanting better for people are makes heroes. Heroism can range from big to small; a hero can makes someone’s day, or he or she can even make history. Heroes can be local or worldwide. A hero could even be someone an individual looks up to as a role model. Heroes do not have to be well known by everyone to be a hero. They could just be helping their community. Not every hero is the same, and people may not agree on who is and who is not a hero. Heroes are what an individual makes them to be. Although Beowulf and Malcolm X are people of different time eras, both men demonstrate a variety of characteristics of a hero.
Ricky Martin once said, “Heroes represent the best of ourselves, respecting that we are human beings. A hero can be anyone from Ghandi to your classroom teacher, anyone who can show courage when faced with a problem. A hero is someone who is willing to help others in his or her best capacity.” Almost anyone can be a hero, as long as they have the courage and the maturity to understand and respect those who they attempt to help. Despite the fact that a hero cannot save everyone, being heroic is about placing others before oneself and strive to help those who need it the most.
Starting with the basics of heroism, heroes can be very different from each other. They have different jobs, grow up in different types of households, and learn different sets of skills and each have a different purpose or motivation for their heroism. There are however a few traits that run across the board no matter what type of hero you are dealing with.
Today in society there are many individuals who can be described as heroic because of their courageous actions towards helping others. People who do not believe in heroes today do not see the change happening around the world for the benefits of future generations. However, in reality many individuals are risking their own lives to fight for what they believe in and for the change they wish to see in this world. Alfred de Vigny asserts that there are no heroes in this world, but even ancient stories like Beowulf provide examples of heroes who risk their lives to save others while we do still have heroes during modern-day times.
What is true heroism? What does it entail? Does you need superpowers? Do you need to save people from crumbling buildings? Do you need to make everyone happy every time? Contrary to popular belief, the answer to these questions is no. A hero will always help others, is brave and helpful even in the face of insurmountable challenges, and doesn’t always make everyone happy.
Being a hero is something everyone is capable of with bravery and intelligence. You don’t have to be a Greek God to be a hero, you can be a simple, average person living in a regular town. Heroism is not your social status and ruling the land, it is the qualities you possess and how you use them. Both the short story “The Hero’s Test” by Alisoun Witting and the short story “The Red-Headed League” by Arthur Conan Doyle shows heroism and how anyone can be a hero.
“I think we all do heroic things, but hero is not a noun, it’s a verb.” Said Robert Downey Jr. If people saved the day with superpowers and knew how to fly then yes that’s a hero. But we don’t live in a comic book or fairy tale. Heroism is about everyday people who are helpful, caring, and never cowardly.
“ Can everyone be a hero?” Some people say that everyone can be a hero by being nice or helping others, but that doesn’t describe a hero. Heroes are people who were ordinary that pursue a journey and that changed them and they become a different person and and it changes them and new are turned to a new person who fights villains and protects others. A example is a anecdote when a teacher from a elementary hid her students in a closet to protect them from a shooter but they students ran out and he was beginning to shoot until the teacher jumped in front of the kids and protected them and save their life because she cared more for them and she risked her life. A hero is a normal person who leaves their ordinary world to pursue a journey that
The word heroism brings to mind different things to different people. This is because people tend to have different concepts of heroism and what it means. The definition of heroism has changed a lot since ancient times and will continue to change. Despite these changes, there are a few things about heroes that will never change. A hero can be described as a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Both ancient and modern day heroes are idealized for possessing these traits. Heroes, no matter from what time period, will always be powerful, strong, brave, and valued.
The quality of heroism can be shown in the everyday life and people. George Bernard Shaw a playwright and a public figure said,“Every reasonable man (and woman) is a potential scoundrel and a potential good citizen. What a man is depends upon his character; what a man does, and what we think of what he does, depends upon his circumstances” (Shaw). When you see your peers they might not look special or have superpowers that can save the whole galaxy from an evil demon. Although they can still show heroism that you might not see or notice. In addition to heroism being in most people it can also be faint. Arthur Ashe who was a inspiration to many from being the first black player selected to the United States Davis Cup team states,“True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost” (Ashe). This quote displays that heroism can be a subtle act that doesn't have to expressed greatly but puts others before yourself. This also shows that heroism does not have to be publicly announced. This quality
