Everyone holds their own idea of what a hero should be. One person might think heroes should have supernatural powers; another might argue that heroes should have exciting armor or weaponry. However, there are a few essential qualities that every hero harbors. I believe that to be a true hero, one must be stubborn, confident, and driven. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter if someone owns a lightsaber or has the ability to fly unless they possess the confidence, drive, and stubbornness to use their assets for a heroic cause. A hero is someone who believes so firmly in a cause that they act upon their conjectures in order to make a change when no one else will. If someone is willing to perform heroic acts for a certain cause because they believe in it so much, they must be stubborn and unwavering in their ideals. They also have to be iron-willed to complete their mission and overcome any obstacles that might block their way. “Heroes have a strong conviction as they have strong beliefs regarding a particular situation. It is imperative to completing missions/goals and staying determined no matter what complications stand in the way. Unfocused heros never get the job done. Antonio del Drago, author of The Mythic Guide to Characters, writes in an article on his website, “He (the hero) is committed to a notion of what is right or just, and has the determination to keep pushing forward no matter what” (Drago). A true hero has extreme tunnel vision and the willpower to persevere and get to the end of the tunnel. Harry Potter, the hero of the wizarding world, risked his life countless times and traveled far and wide to eliminate horcruxes so that he could destroy Voldemort.
