ENG 4U0 – Reading Summative Describe the nature of the hero’s exceptionality.
Often times in Shakespeare’s writing, the heroes are depicted in a way in which the audience views them as exceptional beings. The hero, who is generally a king, prince, a commander (someone who is of a high degree which automatically claims respect) has a remarkable aura which often results in him gaining much more respect than the common man. They find parts of the hero in people of their everyday life who share the same qualities as the hero. The audience incorporates the hero in their lives and personalities without even realizing it. Thus, making the hero exceptional considering the amount of impact he made. What does Bradley mean by “a predisposition in some particular direction”? Explain in your own words.

Oedipus complex explains the emotions that the mind carries in the subconscious that focuses on a child's craving to have a physical/emotional relationship with one of their parents. This is shown in the play when Hamlet finds out that his father has died. Though he is saddened by this, he is even more upset when he finds out his mother has remarried his uncle. Throughout the play he torments his mother and now father for getting married and questions why they did it, often referring to their marriage as, "o'er hasty marriage". He continues to show his rage and jealousy over Claudius when he makes it seem that he is obsessed with his mother's sexuality, casually mentioning Claudius' sexual actions towards Gertrude, something a son would never do. When in fact he is actually jealous of Claudius because he subconsciously identifies with him for having killed his father and married Gertrude. Due to all the reason mentioned prior, it is credible to say that Hamlet suffered from the Oedipus
