The patient from this case is an 18- year old female who experienced painful blisters on her genitalia, followed by a fever, body aches, headache and stiff neck. Since she has not had any known sexually transmitted diseases in the past, I believe she contracted Herpes Simplex virus type 1 (HSV1). The bister symptoms of this virus are often around the oral region but they can also be spread to the genitals. HSV1 is most often transmitted via oral-to-oral contact, but in this case it seems the patient had contracted it by oral to genital contact. It appears that the HSV1 virus caused the disease Herpes Meningoencephalits, which explains the rest of her symptoms. Meningoencephalitis is when both the brain and its surrounding meninges become inflamed
Herpes is one of the common of more than 30 different sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) in America today. Herpes is an infection that is caused by one of two closely related viruses, herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). Both of which are very easily caught, have similar symptoms, and can occur on different parts of the body. Even though it is most common to see the virus HSV-1 appear as oral herpes and to see the virus HSV-2 appear as genital herpes.
The herpes virus is one of the most prevalent viral diseases known to man. As much as eighty percent of all people, worldwide, have herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1), and twenty percent have herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2). This may sound like scary statistics, but most infected people suffer only mild discomfort. The more common form, HSV1, usually causes the occasional blister-like sores on or around the mouth. These blisters are called cold sores or fever blisters and, as most sufferers know, they are annoying and mildly painful but rarely dangerous. If the sores are left alone, they will generally heal up in five to twenty days. The less common version, HSV2, has the same symptoms except that the sores are usually found on or
HSV-2 can be cause by HSV-1. In HSV-2, the initial infection might occur headaches, fevers, fatigue and muscle pains after an incubation of 3-7 days. In the U.S., about 20 percent of adults carry HSV-2 according to the American Academy of Dermatology(AAD). "Did You Know?" Herpes Simplex Virus | American Skin Association. N.p., n.d. Genital Herpes is a virus called Herpes Simplex. It can spread to and from the nose, mouth, fingers and hands. The virus enters the small cracks of the skin or the soft lining of membranes during sex. Symptoms could be blisters on the buttocks, thighs feel sore and itchy, general itchy areas. It is reported that the herpes virus is more easily transmitted from male to female than from female to male. It is reported that approximately one out of every five women between the ages of 14 to 49 years of age have the herpes virus and one out of nine men between the ages of 14 and 49 years of age have the herpes virus. The majority of individuals infected with NSV-1 or HSV-2 experience few if any symptoms or their symptoms are so mild that they do not even notice them or mistakenly believe that they can be attributed to another skin problem. When symptoms are noted it is in the form of blisters that are painful around the individual's "genitals, rectum or mouth." (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012, p.1) The blisters break and leave painful sores that may take two to four weeks to heal.
Genital herpes infections frequently don't have any symptoms or moderate symptoms which go unrecognized. Most of the infected men and women are unaware they have the disease. Typically, about 10-20 percent of individuals with HSV-2 infection report a previous identification of yeast.

The general herpes virus has become very common in society today. However, there are many treatments to cure this virus, such as Acyclovir(Zovirax) and Valacyclovir(Valtrex). Although these treatments cannot completely cure this virus, it will prevent the spread of cold sores, genital herpes, chicken pox, and shingles. Even though there are plenty positives for these two drugs, unfortunately, there are irritating side effects for taking them; for example, some side effects of Acyclovir can be nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, and vomiting. On the other hand, side effects of Valacyclovir contains more severe symptoms such as bruising or bleeding, bloody diarrhea, and red spots on the skin. About forty-five million people of the United States over the age of twelve have been infected with HSV-2, or Herpes Simplex Virus, and deal with these symptoms(WebMD).

This virus brings about a lost lasting infection that affects the general nervous system of various individuals after they have acquired the infection for the first time. It is normally latent in nature, but various nonspecific or unexpected inflammations cause some reactivation for example herpes labialis (Mawanda & Wallace, 2013 pp.161). Some scientific studies have shown that HSV-1 can easily enter or penetrate human body by the help of various routes and can consequently repeatedly occur in absence of neurological signs. Studies have also indicated that HSV-1 greatly and latently infects the nervous system of humans. This virus group of HSV-1 was greatly associated with the different risk factors for the occurrence of dementia and consequently most researchers have found out that there is a great positive significant relationship between HSV-1 and Alzheimer’s disease.
