in myt opinion i think the filmmaker portrayed this type of family in a positive manner for the most part. tHE FIlm showed that gay and lesbian couples can raise a family pretty much as any hetorosexual couple. i think that the myth of kids being broaght up in a gay home, being challenging and growing up to not being ok and having problems was dispelled. As far as the sperm doner i do not feel he was treated very fairly, jules equally made a bad decision, as did he. Tp completely shut him out, and portray him as a person who ruined the family was a little harsh. They both made a mistake, jules got the chance to be forgiven and he did not. He seemed like a pretty good guy, and was excited about having the kids in his life.I also noticed thgere
Mateship in Australian Films Mateship has long been a major aspect of the national image as projected by Australian films, yet the moralities of mateship and the image of men as mates did not go unchallenged. Australian cinema as a significant part of the whole industry of image-makers in the country, the way it portrays mateship, the single most important mythic element in the cultural identity of Australia, is worth analysing. This paper first reviews the historical background of mateship in Australia and its contemporary development. The review here serves as a general discussion of mateship that provides the potential readers with some basic understandings of the idea, and as background
The acting was really good which resulted in the movie looking more real than fake. The movie also taught me a very good lesson which is to always stay out of trouble and avoid getting hurt. I also learned that in some cases, you might need to do things on your own, but sometimes it doesn't hurt to ask for help. I learned this lesson because I did see Stacy suffering through the pain while she was taking a shower and it appears to be that she might be too scared to tell anyone about how Bobby is mistreating her because she might fear that Bobby will hurt her. This movie showed its audience an example of a real life situation that many teenagers and college students face and it gives us a clearer image as to how we should handle our abusive relationships just as how Stacy’s friends try to do so. Overall, I congratulate the company this movie is coming from because it’s a movie everyone should
In “The Myth of Homosexuality” by Christine Downing, there is the discussion of homosexuality and its meaning over the years. Downing begins the article by stating how a myth has classified women-on-women and men-on-men relationships to fall under the same term of homosexuality, but there is much deeper understanding to it than that. The classification under one word has caused a lot of shaping concerning how they are viewed or how they view themselves. In order to look past the surface of what defines the myth, Downing states that we must start with the culture’s myth and it’s origin.
This is a good family movie that can show the viewer’s how some people prey on one another. This movie reminded me of the times my brother and I didn’t get along. It shows how different families are and how they treat one another. Sadly this movie also shows how family members can be so cold blooded. This movie duplicates real life situations where innocent People get hurt, family loyalty gets divided and couples end up in divorce.
If I were a film critic I would give this film four and a half stars. It was well made and the actors were excellent. Although I have little to no experience living in a situation such as the one in the movie, I feel as though the lifestyle of these particular characters were portrayed truthfully. It was a culture shock to me, and the fact that it was most likely taken from real life is amazing in my mind. This movie not only made me think about the world as a whole but made me realize how incredibly lucky I am to have grown up in the environment in which I have lived in my entire life.
Heterosexism, according to Warren J. Blumenfeld, is the system of advantages given to heterosexuals based on the social construct of gender roles and heterosexual norms, while marginalizing and oppressing homosexuals and others who do not fit into the heterosexual culture (373). The enforcement of this system is known as heteronormality. This is seen in the binary system, which is a social construct that divides people into different strictly bordered categories organized by “social roles, values, stereotypes, and behavioral and attitudinal imperatives, expressions, and expectations” (Blumenfeld 373). Those who stick to the binary system, maintain power and privilege. People who may live in the binary system, but also intentionally
In the essay titled “A Tale of Three Coming Out Stories” by Roxane Gay, the author expresses the invasion of the privacy of celebrities and other well known individuals by society. The essay revolves around the LGBT community which stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender and the issues that occur due to society pressure and anti-gay governmental legislation . Gay uses the coming out stories of 3 well-known individuals in her essay in a persuasive manner to prove the idea that although celebrities losing their privacy is unfair, they have an obligation to speak up in order to benefit the greater good. In order to benefit the greater good Roxane Gay repeatedly expresses that fellow LGBT members must stand up and be counted.
In the novel “Fun Home”, the main character and author, Alison Bechdel, struggles to identify her sexual orientation while discovering that her father is a closet homosexual pedophile. The theme of sexual and gender identity is very apparent throughout the novel mainly due to the fact that Alison is struggling to identify that she is a lesbian and the fact that her dad is also gay.Alison and her dad struggled to assume the “proper” gender roles because they all yearned for something more, but in the end they both came to terms with their true identities and accepted their sexual orientation.
I will admit this summary took me a little bit out of my comfort zone. I do realize there are all types of people in this world and we all deserve to be loved. I have never seen “Queer as Folk” personally, but from the chapter reading it is very
Transgender characters in scripted television can seem like a phenomenon. The very fact that there are shows on air that feature transgender characters in reoccurring or starring roles is a huge step for the transgender community. Visibility in the media is the first step in the long journey of erasing the bias and hate that the transgender population faces. However, these steps are only productive if the depictions are positive. Television helps inform and shape the public opinion of the transgender community, and has a strong effect on the formation of self-identity when watched by transgender individuals. Using examples from The Golden Girls, Matlock, Orange is the New Black, The L Word, and Transparent, this paper shows common tropes and characters of transgender representation. Although scripted television shows have become more inclusive in regards to transgender visibility, the onscreen depiction of transgender individuals is still misguided.
Gender and racial identity was a form of discrimination in the world and they were interrelated that fuelling the injustice social phenomenon and problem. For example, women were a particular group and as a symbol showed the social abuses, acts of violence and biggest discrimination based on the sexual difference and racism. The difference of color, race, gender were the big biases not only to deprive of women’s an equal rights education opportunity, health insurance or care, personal credit, but also to help racist and sexist to deny women get the work, food and shelter equality. On the one hand, everyone has their own identity which was the individuals’ psychological relationships to relate social systems. Also, people almost preferred to create identity based on the gender and racism in the daily life. because it was a part of self-concept for the kind of person, the color of skin and the
Lastly, I will now discuss the emotional, mental, and spiritual reactions I personally had about the movie. I felt very saddened over the loss of Graham’s wife because I could not even begin to know how awful it would be to lose a spouse. I also found it very sad to watch the children deal with the loss of their mother. The moment at the dinner
I remember on my first day of preschool, my mom told me, “Abby, don’t tell your teachers about your family.” Sitting in my car seat, at the age of 4, I was starting to become overwhelmed with confusion. This confusion bubbled up inside me for years. I had so many questions that I wanted to ask my moms, but I did not have the courage or the strength to ask. Then I grew up. My perspective on the world changed, and I realized that my parents were seen as a calamity to society. That was my perspective though. I wondered what my mom’s was. How did she grow up in a world that only saw her as a flaw in the system? So I asked. Beth Shaffer’s perspective on her past, the present, and the future is an astonishing story.
Today society displays greater diversity within households. Most American households are now non-traditional or unconventional. Non-traditional or unconventional families include; single parenthood, singlehood and LGBT relationships. Modern family is a comedy exploring the different “modern” families. This show explores a huge unconventional family through a gay couple, made up of Mitchell and Cameron, and their adopted daughter Lily; a straight couple comprised of Phil and Clare, and their three children, Luke, Alex and Hayley; and a multicultural family which is comprised of Jay and his much younger wife Gloria and their son Manny. Modern family explores how the present day family is defined and , modern America means for family members. Despite Modern family’s groundbreaking success in representing non traditional families, the show continues to reinforce heteronormative values through stereotypes of queer identity in regards, gender roles within the relationship, gay adoptive parents and gay marriage.
The director did a fantastic job writing this film. All of the points he wanted to get to the audience, I feel did. The actor, Sean Paul, did a wonderful job impersonating someone with a developmental disability. The director’s goal was to have people that were his targeted audience, try and think about what they take for granted and show that people need love and support just as much as anyone else that is important to them. People never know what other stories other people have and are going through. It is always nice to be kind and to be a supportive human being.
