Hi Scierra,
I really enjoyed reading your discussion post. You provided some wonderful insights about generating ideas and right brain thinking. I completely agree with you that it was kind of difficult to think of five things in order to generate ideas and think in new ways. Leaving home, I believe is an important way to generate ideas because it gets yourself away from the same environment and you can think of new ideas outside of your home. Writing always helps me when generating new ideas. If I don't write my ideas right when I think of them, I forget them instantly and never really go back to figure out what they were or what I was thinking. All my life I have heard the statement “Fake it till you make it!” I have never thought about
Heather Collins defines successful thinking as “carefully reasoning about and actively engaging with your environment” (Collins). Successful thinking aids in building a more efficient brain and involves three processes: becoming aware of your thoughts, and express interest in what is going on in the world around you. To be a successful thinker is to think about your own thinking, go beyond the superficial surface of thinking, and thrive by continuously learning new information.
For my first reading journal I had chose to read the article “Where Do You Get Your Ideas”, by Neil Gaiman. This article was about the development of where your ideas really do come from. There isn't a specific way you get your ideas, infact according to the article your ideas can come out of boredom, they can come day dreaming, but the main one are questions. Ideas tend to form when one asks themselves questions and Neil explains that. Questions that start with “what if”, “If only”, or “what would happen” are what start ideas. Questions are what our ideas come from really, if you had a question chances are there will always be an answer wither its a weird , serious, or right answer you always get a response. Neil also talk about how writing is very important for his ideas. It’s how he makes his money really. Writing stories all day long and generating his ideas on paper is how he make
I just checked with Danielle about if you could use PSYC 334 as one of the restricted elective classes, she said no, as you took it for Social and Behavioral Sciences, and classes between two groups were not allowed for overlapping. If you want to use PSYC 334 as a restricted elective, then you have to take another class to fulfill Social and Behavioral Science.
Two Thinker toy methods that helped me process and come up with new ideas are “Feeding Your Head” and being a “Travel Junkie” (Michalko, 2006). I usually read and travel for fun or a purpose, not for creative thinking.
R/s Aushia beats on her children, she hits them too hard. R/s Aushia punches the children in their backs. R/s the youngest child, Jeremy “Junior” (2) has a ringworm and the child had the ringworm for over one month and Aushia hasn’t treated the ringworm. R/s Aushia dresses her daughter, Japanee (7) in 12 month size clothes. R/s Aushia receives food stamps but the children beg other people for food. R/s Aushia smokes marijuana around the children and she eats clay. R/s Aushia rides the children in her truck without car seats and she has no insurance on the vehicle. R/s Aushia is moving around from house to house because she was evicted from her apartment. R/s Aushia is staying with her sister, Amy in the Wastonia Complex by the housing authority.
Thank you for your response! I can agree with you as well. I always try my best to stop everything i am doing and listen to what the person(s) are saying to me. Also, I try to put my phone away while I am listening to someone. I will say it is a challenge since we live in such a technological savvy society. Usually, I communicate my interests and passions to my family and a few of my close friends. I completely agree that it is important to have certain individuals in your life to communicate ideas and passions to as well.
R/s Tremell’s mother passed away this past weekend and now he is in the care of Louvenia. R/s Tremell stated that David is mean and whips with a belt. R/s according to Tremell, David hits him for no reason and sometimes there are marks. R/s Tremell said that David hit him two weeks ago and in the past David has hit him in the head by mistake. R/s David has a half moon shape mark on his left chest that happened five weeks ago. R/s Tremell has a flat line mark on his right leg and he said it is from getting whipped by David. R/s Tremell initially said all the older children get whipped by David and he later said he only gets whipped.
I liked your argument. The dew breaker has made some huge changes in his life and is no longer the man he used to be, thanks to the love of his wife. The fact the he’s a good husband, good father and understanding landlord to the men in his basement apartments, shows how much he has grown from the man he used to be in his past. Although his kindness is great and can be due his new attitude in life, I do believe that some of it steams from the guilt that he carries.
As students preparing for a successful career field we will all find a time when we need to effectively communicate on paper. Some of the challenges that I face in my writing is developing my thoughts into organized, presentable sentences. One thing that I am able to do well is having the creativity to generate the thought process without much planning. I do not have much need for brainstorming or outlines in order to get ideas flowing. This has its detriment to my writing, however. Since my ideas flow so easily, I have had a tenancy to miss some of the key points of assignment outlines. To mitigate this, in the future, I will need to ensure I make adequate time available to prepare for assignments.
Hi Divina, my name is Corey Wilson and i agree with you in some ways. I can understand when people talk slang or broken english but i do not like to read it. I also think speaking properly will make people more prone to listen to you and want to follow your instructions. A big part of my learning is accepting constructive criticism. It was hard at first but really works when you are able to be corrected and learn from it
I agree that this video surrounds most of the concept we have talked about in class on some level. This video was relatively short, but it covered many of the ‘isms’ that we have discussed. It was remarkable to see this woman talk about what had happened to her in her career. It was empowering to see her speak up about the sexism and racism that had happened to her early in her career. As you mentioned, she was resilient and persisted even though the labels, name calling, hate crimes, and stereotypes that occurred. Her worth was brought to a test and her willpower to overcome these things is incredible. Furthermore, there are many actresses and actors that do not overcome the pushback and suffer from image that they are suppose
The thought process is a very important process, therefore you can never be too good of a thinker. There’s always need for improvement. I am able to think much better this year but somehow my ideas are never organized. I always analyze the material I am given but don’t ever try to associate it with other things we have learned. I think I can start organizing my ideas by writing down my ideas and brain storming. I’m not used to brainstorming but if that’s what I need to do to become a better thinker then there’s never a better time to start.
With emerging technology, online learning is becoming progressively more popular. Cope and Kalantzis (2010) emphasise how technology has transformed pedagogy in learning environments. Learning is becoming increasingly ubiquitous and students are being encouraged to be a part of many online learning modules. The program I undertook was smart science module known as ‘The Superbug Challenge’. This module’s intention was to teach students on how to develop science inquiry skills.
In How Successful People Think, John C. Maxwell discusses the thought processes used by successful individuals and describes how these techniques can be learned. He outlines the 11 types of thinking and the important skills attributed to each. People succeed by: 1. Seeing the wisdom of big-picture thinking 2. Unleashing the potential of focused thinking 3. Discovering the joy of creative thinking 4. Recognizing the importance of realistic thinking 5. Releasing the power of strategic thinking 6. Feeling the energy of possibility thinking 7. Embracing the lessons of reflective thinking 8. Questioning the acceptance of popular thinking 9. Encouraging the participation of shared thinking 10. Experiencing the satisfaction of unselfish thinking 11. Enjoying the returns associated with bottom-line thinking
The first article titled “Becoming a Critic Of Your Thinking”, focuses on the different strategies and ways your mind can “work to discipline itself” and challenge your thinking. Good thinking ultimately leads you to being prepared and avoiding
