In the book Hidden America the theme is how no one ever realizes or understands how much work people put into their jobs. People do so much to make sure everyone is provided food in grocery stores and making sure the community is clean. Some people do not think about the work behind some things their parents just hand them or even what parents just go out and buy. As it says in the chapter Hecho en America “The fingerprints are one of some aspects of America life that escape everyday thought: the fact that there are people, actual people, who pick our food.”(Laskas 50). No one seems to think about how the food gets to them or where the food comes from and who grows and develops it. The people that pick and grow our foods are unappreciated, it's like the are invisible to most people who do not work those kind of jobs. The others books also talk about how things are not recognized and how if we did not have those people to do all these jobs our community could go down hill. Most works that grow food probably love it even tho they have to do so much work, but they just love the job and what it gives to others. As it says in the chapter The Rig that the cheerleaders loved their job even if they had to cut weight and be judged all the time if they were not the right size or if they were too big or to skinny. The did not care they loved what they did and worked hard to get there. People may just back out as soon as things get hard and not want to proceed with it. This book is trying to open up peoples eyes to how hard some people work to make sure everyone is provided food, entertainment, and also keeping our community clean.
