Throughout this novel, F. Scott Fitzgerald used hidden meanings and character flaws to define the protagonist. Mr. Gatsby suffered from his emotions playing too big of a role in his life. His whole life was a sequence of events through him putting a show on for others simply to impress Daisy. If Mr. Gatsby was able to think sensibly and control his emotions, the devastating ending which was inevitable because of his flaws would not of occurred. The tragic ending of this novel could have been prevented if Mr. Gatsby thought sensibly instead of his uncontrollable emotion. Throughout American literature, character have had secret meanings and have flaws that prove to mean something in the great scheme of things. The story eventually revealed
