Case Study This case study deals with improving the high number of incident tickets regarding its digital release planning system, mostly as a result of delays in a release. The problem was resolved using a Six Sigma DMAIC problem solving methodology. The basic equation of Six Sigma, Y = f(x), defines the relationship between a dependent variable ‘Y’ or the outcome of a process and a set of independent variables ‘x’ or possible causes which affect the outcome. In this case study, ‘Y’ is the growth in revenue, whereas ‘x” is the number ticket of ticket incidents. The Company The Record Label Music Co. is a music recording company that manages several different record labels within the industry. The record labels are styles of music correlated to the marketing of the music. This company signs record label contracts with artists from various genres such as pop, country, jazz and classical. The record company uses a tool called the planning system to plan and schedule the release of new music. The system was initially only designed to handle physical releases such as CD’s, vinyls and cassettes, but with the advancement to digital releases, the company had to enhance their system. When the record label releases the artist’s digital recordings, it releases it to a digital service company such as iTunes and Rhapsody, once they are approved to be release by management.
