At my fifth birthday party my mother had a Mad Scientist come to entertain the kids at my party. The mad scientist performed many fun experiments with dry ice, and my interest in science was born that day. As a five year old, I begged my mother to enroll me in a summer science class, since science fascinated me. Even though I was actually the only female in that summer class of 25 students it did not deter me from enrolling in science classes every summer since then.
Throughout my childhood, my interest in science also intertwined with my interest in the arts. In middle school, I volunteered at the after school art program daily, helping other kids with art assignments. At my eighth grade graduation, I received both the art awards my middle school offered, for dedication to after school art programs. Did I mention that I was also a competitive dancer for about seven years, proficient in ballet, jazz, tap and Indian classical dance. This is when I began to

My mother always told the puzzling story of how the cardiac catheterization performed on him before he passed away did not reveal any blockages or heart problems, and yet he passed away once he was put on the heart lung machine as a precaution after the procedure. During the many meetings my mother had with the hospital officials and doctors to figure out his cause of death, the probable cause of death was attributed to the drug “Rezulin”, the diabetes medication he was prescribed. That incident, the unexpected shock, the trauma, and the aftermath of figuring out the cause of his death, developed my interest in medicine and inspired me to study medical sciences. Even though both my parents are engineers, once they became aware of my interest in the medical sciences, they encouraged me to follow my developing
New York University is absolutely attractive to me for its vibrant location—the center of New York City. Besides studying in classrooms, students in NYU can go outside to explore New York through programs like Cohen Arts & Culture Experience. Discovering internship opportunity on Wall Street or enjoying an opera in Broadway, I believe the life in NYU is colorful and exhilarating. Also, as a business student, Stern is beneficial for me to plan career development through Wasserman Center for Career Development, from accessing the NYU CareerNet to hosting career fairs. The close proximity to potential internships of top cooperations will allow me to supplement my knowledge from classrooms with actual and practical learning. Additionally, the social
I am writing to express my interest in serving as a course developer for the College of Health and Human Services at Penn State. I have been developing and teaching courses online since 2005 and have held academic appointments at the University of Pittsburgh, Wayne State University and Virginia Tech. University. I am certified in instructional design through Indiana University and my areas of specialization are social psychology, human development, health and wellness and multi-cultural education.
My whole life I have been invested in doing what I love, focusing on my true passions, as well as finding new ones. I have been very involved in my high school, and have been lucky enough to be a part of multiple clubs and activities. Without these activities, my high school experience and life would be a lot different. I have been an active drama club member, a part of ‘Bottlecappers,’ a club advocating anti-drug, alcohol, and bullying to younger students in my district, and many other community service opportunities. I am lucky to have the opportunity to be in these activities, as they have shaped me to be the young adult I am today.
I am writing to express my interest in the biology teaching position at Bard High School Early College (BHSEC). I am currently holding a New York City initial certification in adolescent biology education as well as a Master degree in Biology. I have experience teaching at a high school as well as a college level. I believe that my experience and qualification is a great fit for this position.
According to true colors I am a green. The twenty words that best describes me are analytical, calm, cool, investigative, strength, creative, strategic thinker, knowledgeable, visionary, enthusiastic, independent thinker, future focus, objective, tough minded, meaningless dialogue, emotional displays, subjective thinking, social function, challenging and flexible.
Even in my youth, I was concerned about the environment and humanity’s impact upon it. That concern developed into an ardent passion to fix or mitigate the issues we are bringing to our world. Thus my resolution to become an environmental engineer was born. However, most schools do not offer this program, and it has considerably narrowed my options. My search has led me to Rensselaer, the first college to establish an accredited Environmental Engineering program. While visiting Rensselaer, I spoke with an environmental engineer major, and she described her research and internship experiences. She specifically mentioned class lessons devoted to water quality. I have been doing research on this topic for the past two years and find it fascinating. Therefore, I was glad to see that I could use class instruction to build upon my prior knowledge. During
Since submitting my original application to Berkeley back in November, I organized and took a leading role in a project called the Brown Middle School Health Sciences Pilot Program, a project which has been considerably meaningful to me and my growth as an individual, learner, and leader.
I write to express my interest in the tenure-track appointment in guitar at the assistant or associate professor level beginning fall 2018 at the Arizona State University School of Music. While I have taught at a number of institutions, my position at Georgia State University (GSU) has offered the greatest opportunities for professional growth. Consequently, my discussion of professional activities will focus primarily on the work I have done in connection with GSU starting in 2012. In this time I have revitalized a failing guitar program, reinstated its MM performance degree, and created a guitar chair position within the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) while holding two to three part-time positions and maintaining an active
I expect a great deal from my time with Virginia Commonwealth University Honors College. I enjoy that I will have an adviser that truly cares about my wellbeing and education, and I believe this will help me succeed as I pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Biology. I hope to become close with the faculty and staff of the Honors College as I strive towards my ultimate goal of becoming a Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon. Although I plan to commute to and from VCU for classes rather than stay on campus, the Honors College dorms are an extreme luxury provided to those students that are qualified. I also am ecstatic about the special classes and curriculum that is available to Honors students. I am pursuing VCU in an attempt to further my education, and I believe the Honors College is my best opportunity to do so. I look forward to exploring all the Honors College has to offer, and I hope it will help me to become a better student, graduate, and person all around.
In fact, art has always been an integral part my life. My journey with art started when I was still in Iran and my mother enlisted me in my first extracurricular art class. After moving to Beijing, the capital of China, I became fascinated with Chinese painting that is quite different from western paintings in both mediums and techniques. Thus, I had an opportunity to be trained in Chinese Gongbi and Shui-mo painting. In addition, when my journey brought me to the United States, I took advantage of the flexible high school schedule that I previously did not have and enrolled in a variety of art classes. I was able to produce my own short animation, explore different mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, and clay, learn to develop in the dark room what I photographed with my film camera, and create works of art such as sculptures and paintings, all of which have been displayed in my school's galleries. After my virtual tour of The Jewett Arts Center, I wishfully envision myself of walking down the halls and getting inspiration by the excellent variety of artworks. The art center resonates the promise that I can further explore my artistic abilities at Wellesley College and perhaps step out of my comfort zone and lead an unprecedented adventure with oil
With each passing minute, 21 children under the age of five die primarily from avoidable causes. The silent killers to blame are hunger, poverty, and easily preventable diseases. Centered upon with my current academic courses and contributions in extracurricular activities, and my future academic and extracurricular aspirations, I aim to provide humanitarian and medical aid the world deserves. My rigorous academic curriculum coincides with my goal to eventually have the essential knowledge required to be able to help people. Over the course of my high school career, I immersed myself into five Advanced Placement courses.
“Yale is the place that endowed me with the confidence and the grand scope of the world that a young designer needed to excel and make a difference in the real world.” – Yansong Ma. Yale University (M.Arch ’02).
The University of Pennsylvania is a world-class institution that will provide me with unparalleled top-notch educational experiences. Every aspect of Penn has impressed and convinced me that it’s my dream school. The campus is beautiful and it’s only a fifteen minutes drive away from my house. To me, the urban yet historical city of Philadelphia is still a mystery box that’s waiting to be explored. The diversity and intense curriculum match the setting in which I wish to engrossed myself for the next four years.
I never knew how much I loved science until my love for art developed. As a child, I grew up in a home where my parents encouraged me to flourish creatively. While we lived in Europe, I thrived on new adventures as they took me to museums, cathedrals, and castles throughout several countries. The sculptures and paintings of people always amazed me. My small brain could
