High school students are constantly preparing themselves and thinking about their future after they graduate from high school. Most of them plan to attend one of the most expensive four-year colleges and have an extremely large goal to achieve in the future. On the other hand, a large number of students that are part of hard-working families that do not have enough money to support their child through college is just trying to finish high school so they can start working like their family has for generations. Those students are not necessarily less intelligent than the graduates that want to attend an expensive college but they actually may be the more intelligent ones because they will be taking a less expensive route and they will not have to wait another four years to begin their work. While others may plan to go straight to a four-year college or go straight to work, after high school I intend to go straight to a junior college then after two years transfer to Fresno State to get my teaching credentials and become a teacher in the future.
There are many reasons why this path is best for me. To start with, I enjoy working with children and I have taken classes such as a career in education. This class allowed me to go help teachers in their classrooms and it gave me first-hand experience in teaching. This class has taught me such skills as different methods of teaching, how to deal with children better, and my priorities as being a teacher. The year I spent in my careers
“In the United States today, there is no more certain investment than a college education”(Carnevale and Melton). Education has always been a major component of American society. One can only go so far without an education, and the more education and knowledge someone has, the better their chances of being successful. Some people believe a high school education is enough, and it is, enough to land a job at a fast food restaurant. I speculate they feel this way because they feel school is not for them, or maybe they just do not want to go far in life. To get far in life people must go above and beyond, and learn things that others do not know to make them
In “Should the Obama Generation Drop Out?” Charles Murray believes that “a large majority of young people do not have the intellectual ability to do genuine college-level work” (95). Although this is true, not every career field requires the same level of coursework and may require different levels of intellectual ability. Also, academic intelligence should not be viewed as the only type of intelligence out there, and people with other gifts and talents should definitely be acknowledged and respected as well. Of course, most well-paying jobs require more than a high school education “…but it need not mean four years on a campus” (Murray 95). For instance, people who are aspiring to become a
want to be a teacher becuas I want to make a difference in the lives of as many students as I can.I have had much experience working with children- from vacation bible study teacher, bible study teacher, to youth leader for the young adult choir. These responsibities have helped me realize my love for children. All these experiences have impacted my work ethic and helped me develop habits of patience, a professional attitude , and a desire to work
A CNN investigation showed that, “Public universities across the country where many students in the basketball and football programs could read only up to an eighth-grade level.” Universities that are popular for their medical or law programs, aren’t so popular the intelligence of their athletes. Colleges expect adults coming out of high school to be an intellectual individual, many aren’t at that level yet. Student’s graduation high school are young, ages vary from 17 to
There are the students who decide not to go to college and start a career instead. They enter true adult life right out of high school. Life for those students is not getting any better. From 1987 to 2007, average lifetime income for a high school graduate dropped by 20 percent while the average lifetime income for college graduates has raised by one percent (Davies). The value of a high school diploma is dropping. The knowledge gained in high school is not enough for a good paying job. For those looking to go on to a higher education are also unprepared. They are paying large amounts of money for college to learn what they should already know. This problem with young adults can be traced back to school before high school.
After high school, there are plenty of routes for people to go to enhance their future. Some go into the work force, a few serve in the military, and plenty go to college. College is a choice many people make to get a higher education. It is an opportunity to take an extra step in life and become whatever they want to be in life. Students cannot do that if the prices of going to school is too high for them.
Upon first entering college, I struggled deciding at such a young age what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Through babysitting and volunteering with pre-school aged children at my church and through a school program called STARS, it became evident to me I had a love for helping children. It fascinated me to see how they viewed the world around them and how quickly they learned new truths everyday. Nevertheless, I knew I would not get the full enjoyment interacting with children as a schoolteacher because the teacher to student ratio is so large. Classroom demands would make it much more difficult to devot individualized attention to each student, and I did not like that concept. So
I have chosen to go into this field because I want to be one of those early childhood teacher that get children ready for important part of life. Having little cousins to watch growing up as well my own children and see them grow in their early education has shown me that I want to be part of that. I love the thought of being the first person to get the children started with their education by helping them along the way with fun filled classroom activities and games.
My name is Antawn McCollum and I want to inform you about the conditions in one of my classes. I attend high school diploma classes in the Education building in room 125.
If Cory is correct that students go to a great school to learn “the habit of working out what is possible in a given time, for taste, for discrimination,” then one could conclude that those who haven’t gone to college lack those traits. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 39% of students enrolled in colleges in 1999 were twenty-five years or older. (NCES, 1) This would seem to indicate that many people are delaying their education for various reasons. Some go directly to the work force after high school for financial reasons. Others might join the military or choose to explore the world around them before going to college. There are also some students who may feel they are not cut out for college because of poor grades in high
Education has been crucial hardship for many year and it hasn’t changed now. District learning is a program that extends your high school education experience. Which you can use to get to make up classes or even get ahead in your education. It’s an program that offers online courses for affordable prices. Although there are some small flaws with district learning. For the most it has been a pleasant experience. Distance learning is an acceptable program because it gives me a head start in my education, the teachers are always encouraging and it is a convenient program.
For me, the decision to become a teacher is more of a way of life than a career. I have always loved school, practicing at being school marm from a young age, and voraciously devouring every shred of education offered me in my career as a student. If it were possible, I would be a student for the rest of my life. And then I still would not have learned enough. As a teacher, I hope to instill this appetite for knowledge in secondary students. They are, after all, the future leaders of the world, and what better place to expand the minds of the generations to come than here in Appalachia where education programs, especially the sciences, which I plan to teach, are poorly funded and children’s dreams
The big question teachers ask me throughout my life is “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I never had an answer to that. Going into college I didn’t have a set plan as to what career I would like to pursue. However, I knew that I wanted to work with kids; I originally wanted to be a pediatrician. That career choice was based on my family wanting me to be successful, so I put my passion for working with kids and their passion together. As I began to focus on what I want instead of what others want, I changed my major to Early Childhood Education and chose the path of teaching as my career choice. I have high hopes for this career because teachers are always needed. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics(BLS), the employment rate for my career choice will increase by six percent from 2014 to 2024. In this world, education is valued and will help put people many steps ahead. The reason why I chose to be an elementary teacher is because I want to be able to motivate and inspire my younger generations.
I want to become a teacher because I believe that all students are unique in their own way. I want to teach because I want to know that I am making a positive difference in the lives of students. Also, because teaching will allow me to connect with students in ways I've never been able to. I've always felt joy when I am around kids, it brings a sense of excitement. To me it is not simply a job but instead a purpose and my mission. I believe teachers should not be alone in educating their students. Parents, families and communities need to work together to support and enrich the lives of their children. By being a part of your child's education, you are showing them that you care and support them.
We all know that money does not grow on trees. However, children and teens in this generation think differently. Every parent should know that most children would leave their home from high school with little if any training in finances or money management. As a result, they are likely to experience many years of disappointments and aggravation with managing money. The purpose of this paper is to prepare parents to teach their children the knowledge, principles and skills they need in order to enjoy financial burden and despair as they approach adulthood.
