Walt Disney once said, “if you can dream it, you can do it”. This quote is relevant because student athletes must believe they can achieve their academic and athletic goals. High school athletes should have to maintain a certain GPA in order to participate in high school athletics. First, making the commitment to practice and play a sport requires hours of practice. This does not give a student much time to complete homework assigned at school. Second, students who play sports do not always get a full athletic scholarship. Therefore, playing ability should not be fully relied on. Lastly, if athletes are not academically excelling, this might ruin their chances of getting into a good college or finding their dream job.
Before making
Athletes at school might get carried away just focusing on their sport. Playing a sport might not be a distraction and the student could just be stressing academically. They might be using their hobby to relieve stress, but this can lead throwing away their education as well. Education should be the number one priority. Honor roll, or just average grades in general, will increase the chances of students getting accepted to the college of their choice. If an individual wants to do the things he or she loves, college will play an important factor. Setting this rule for athletes will motivate them to do well in school if they really love the sport they
Rebecca Lobo once said“Athletes who take to the classroom naturally or are encouraged to focus on grades should be able to do well in the classroom. I believe the reason you go to college is to get your degree. It's not a minor league or an audition for the pros.” many athletes should read these and apply it to their life because college isn't about trying to play in the pros if you're an athlete sure you can have a dream, but you need to also get a degree that should be the main focus not getting a tryout or an audition for the pros. Every year around one hundred seventy-seven thousand athletic scholarships is given out to those that stood out in their sport, whether it was basketball, football, or even baseball. The kids receiving these scholarships are given a free
Student athletes need to maintain a good gpa to do good after graduation. Getting better grades will help you get into a better college. Getting better grades will help you get into a higher quality college, and also help you do better in college. Getting into a better college helps you become
First of all, student athletes when they leave high school, they will not be able to maintain the grades needed to pass because they were used to low standards in the past. The GPA needed to play sports is right around 2.3 according to NCAA. If you have good grades, you are more likely to be chosen over another student with poor grades, to receive a sports scholarship to college. Some students get good grades for just one quarter. But when they get to college they will not be able to maintain the grade for the entire year. What good does it do if you can’t keep your grades in college? It does you no good! If you
As a student athlete, you might not be able to get into the pros in athletics. If you get beyond college in football, according to the NCAA in 2016 there were 72,788 football participants in the NCAA (NCAA). But of those 72,788 participants only 1.6% of them went pro (NCAA). That’s only about 1,164 college participants that move on to the Major Pros. Not only that but if you’re competing in women's basketball, only 0.9% of 16,589 players are eligible to play pro (NCAA). That’s about 149 players that are able to play in the pros. So if you don’t make it to the pros, you should meet requirements for other jobs. Even so, if you do make it to the pros, you might go broke after you retire. According to Forbes, “Sports Illustrated recently estimated
Getting accepted into college requires a certain GPA. Having the privilege to play their favorite sport should be the motivation they need to try in school. Furthermore, getting to get into a good college and continue to play the sport they love should be a great reason to keep their grades up and try harder. Along with motivation, and getting into a good college student athletes represent the school they go to and play for. They shouldn't get to fail classes only because they play for the school.
As we all know, it is every high school athletes dream to go forth and play at the college level, or perhaps even the professional level. There are over 48.9 million students enrolled in public schools in grades pre-k through 12th grade, and another 5.3 million students enrolled in private schools. Of those in public schools alone are 14.8 million high school students in grades 9th through 12th. (nces.ed.gov) Among those high schools are 7.7 million athletes competing not just for victory, but for scholarships as well. (bangordailynews.com)
No , should not give GPA for sports An unknown source once said,‘take pride in how far you have come, have faith in how far you can go’. This quote is relevant, because to have a good GPA does not mean a person can't do sports, there are 3 reasons why. First, it should be up to the couch not the school, second, not all sports are tied to school. Third, if a kid wants to do sports it up to them.
I have spoken with the coach there and there are only two offensive linemen on the team, so ninth graders will be filling those spots; in 2A that would be fine, Fair plays football in 5A and has one of the hardest schedule in the state (those kids are going to be more vulnerable to injuries) "Many freshmen athletes who are between 14 and 15 years old are probably not ready to physically confront or battle 17- and 18-year-old athletes.
High school athletes are constantly pressured by their coaches or parents to perform outstanding in order to get or maintain college scholarships. With that type of stress
Ken Tilley stated that “School performance is very important. It opens the doors to many opportunities, such as college and better jobs.” This is saying that if you do good in school, then you will do good in your future. Plus, Eddie Griffin stated, ” every year, many talented players miss out on the chance to top-level football because of their failure to meet academic requirements.” This is saying the sport is a privileged because everyone can try out and not make it, but people can’t make it because of their academics. Even, though it can give better chances sports can still be better than so much hard work and school for the kids. Well, even if you think that how would they get to the pros without good grades. If a child has horrible grades, then colleges might not want that on the field to make people have poor influence. But, People can’t take school sports for granted or else they will take life for granted. Then school sports won’t become an enormous
Only one and a half percent of college football players will have the opportunity to be on an NFL roster in their life. Yet, nearly one million high school football players have aspirations of playing in the NFL. The realization that so many high school athletes have dreams of playing a college or professional sport is concerning. However, the counter argument is students should be allowed to dream big and shoot for the stars. While I firmly believe that one should be allowed to have high expectations, he should be aware that it is impossible for him to fully achieve his potential.
A narrative literature review was conducted using online databases to search and identify research evaluating nutrition education for university student-athletes. Medline (OVID) and Web of Science were selected as the databases as they are both indexed and include a large number of scholarly journals. The search terms ‘university’, ‘athletes’, ‘nutrition’, ‘intervention’ and ‘education’ were used with no limitation on year of study. Google Scholar was also used to identify thesis work produced by university students. A search of the identified literature was conducted to ensure all studies meeting the inclusion criteria were identified. Nutrition education interventions for CIS and NCAA student-athletes with evaluated outcomes
College can be an overwhelming experience for some people, and for others not so much. If a student is armed with a powerful work ethic, and a will to succeed, college may seemingly be quiet straightforward. On the other hand, for the student who is not as fortunate to be equipped with those skills, the journey through college may not be as successful. This is one reason why the collegiate student athlete may tend to carry a higher grade point average than that of a non athlete. From a young age most athletes have been trained and disciplined to become the best they can be at their sport. Along with that training, most of them have developed a desire to outwork the competition, and be successful in everything that they do. This happens to fit right in with what it takes to be successful in academics as well. Not only are they equipped with a desire to succeed, they are also held accountable by the athletic department, coaches, and athletic association to maintain their good grades to keep eligibility. This is why there may be a chance that the collegiate student athlete may do better, on average, in the class room, than that of the non-student athlete.
Something I will always remember is the relationships I’ve built in High School sports. Playing alongside my closest friends will be something I will remember for a lifetime. The coaches, players, and other people involved in those sports were so great to me. It was more of a family then anything. Playing 3 sports in high school is tough, but it kept me in shape and I loved playing with my friends. It will be something I remember forever. From freshman year to now beginning senior year, it feels like every year the relationships grow more and more. That is because every year I’ve met different people and grown to know them personally. I’m so thankful for the people I’ve met, the relationships I’ve built, and the teachers I’ve encountered.
