In the first few weeks of high school, I have put a lot of effort in my classes and my homework. I definitely achieved the skill of becoming more independent and relying on myself. I've fumbled in becoming more confident when I give a presentation to the class. I intend to become more confident next year because I get more used to the classes and environment around me. It is different than middle school. Moreover, I want to learn how to give a presentation without being too nervous or weary of the negative things that can
Graduating from high school is what every student is looking forward to. However, going to college is a big accomplishment for all students. The first day of freshman high school and college feels the same, the excitement and pressured. As many students experienced, both high school and college could be compared their similarities. First, both students in college and high school are expected to behave in well mannered, attend to every class on time, and respect the teachers or professors. Second, being prepared in class is needed for the success whether the students are in high school or college. Third, high school and college allow the students to figure out and pursue their career. In contrary, high school and college have a lot of differences to each other. Unlike high school, students in college can choose a college they would prefer, they can manage their own time, and students be able to learn how to balance their responsibilities and priorities.
Each year schools of 25 teachers would use about 62,500 pieces of paper. The amount of paper you use each day depends on the class you have. It also depends on the teacher of the class. Schools of more than 25 teachers would use more paper. It also depends how many students are in each class, and in the school overall. I think you use more paper in high school than you do in middle school. There are three other ways high school is different than middle school.
Many people endure three years of middle school and four years of high school. It is an eventful time for children between 11 to 18 years old. During the adolescent years there are hormonal changes, environmental changes and emotional developmental gains. Middle school is the beginning of transitioning towards independence under the constant eye of adults. During high school they are challenged with real-world challenges that help them transition into adulthood. The behaviors of these individuals change as the factors change around them. For every person, the experience of high school or middle school may be different. Either way, both have the same goal of wanting the student to succeed and evolve. Even so, the similarities and differences vary. Middle school and high school are alike in the areas of receiving an education, socializing with others, and having teachers while different in areas of maturity, difficulty in work, and independence.
During my middle school I experienced a lot of peer pressure from my friends. Although they were my friends I do recognize that at times they were a bad influence for me. During middle school I also experienced constant conflict with my peers as well as a lot mockery and isolation from them. Although this was my experience from middle school, my high school experience was different.
One of the most important things that we need to remember as middle level teachers, is that every young adolescent is different, and because of those differences, we need to make sure that our lessons and activities reflect this aspect of young adolescents. The middle school age student is extremely complex. On one hand, they don’t fit into the elementary age of little kids, yet aren’t quite as mature as high school aged students. I went to Middle School in Knob Noster Missouri for half of Middle School, then moved in the middle of 6th grade. I started Middle School when I was 10, in 5th grade. It was unusual to start Middle School in 5th grade, but at the end of 4th grade, the school education board said that there wasn’t enough room in our elementary school, so they moved the 5th grade to the Middle School. We were the first 5th grade class to experience Middle School in the whole community. I felt older and cooler than all of the other 5th graders before me. When I came in on the first day of school, we made a time capsule and buried them in the supplies cabinet, instead of outside because it was against the rules to dig up school property. We brought in some things that were really important to us, and put them into a large pringle container. The neatest thing that we did was cut a piece of string as tall as us, then at the end of year we would do the same thing and see how much we had grown in that year. I had grown 1.5 inches that year. I was also the tallest in the class back then.
In the American schooling system, children begin primary school around the age of six, this is called elementary school and most students stay there for five to six years before they go on to secondary school which involves middle school and high school. After graduating high school some students may go on to “higher education” known as college, but any schooling done after high school is no longer mandatory.
Some may think that high school and college reading and writing are similar and that it’s just the next level up but it 's not, they differentiate in many ways. College reading and writing is more than that, it’s a completely different world when compared to high school. It’s much more advanced and complexed. Some ideas that can be compared are the way we annotate, understand text, assignment topics, the depth of research, and so on. This is important to understanding how much more you can get out of college vs. just getting a high school reading and writing education.
The world’s middle class is growing while America’s middle class stays the same. United States has a smaller middle class compared to other countries like China, Canada, Australia and Switzerland. Rich are getting richer and poor are getting poorer and the middle class either stays how it is or gets smaller. Every modern country’s goal is to cut poverty and grow the middle class. In order to grow the middle class we need to increase the minimum wage. The minimum wage has been raised from 7.25 dollars per hour to about 9-10 dollars per hour. With minimum wage increase we encourage workers to get out of poverty and have an ability to improve their financial status. Another reason why United States has a “poor” middle class is that higher education puts kids into debt while higher education in other countries is tuition free. Students in debt are not likely to become wealthy anytime soon which raises a question if higher education is even worth it. Making higher education affordable is a key to grow the middle class. The other reason that might be affecting the middle class being small is medical insurance not being available for the most. Not everyone can afford medical insurance. Government needs to provide affordable medical insurance to improve the middle class and cut down poverty. Last but not least, opening a business is a hard task for low and middle class. She comes to a conclusion that there are 4 kinds of schools in America and those are 1. Working class schools, 2. Middle-class schools, 3. Affluent professional schools, and 4. Executive elite schools. Anyon states that all classifications of schools are determined by your family’s social economic standpoint. As every junior student, I have had many mistakes in my life, yet I’m still learning from every step I make towards the successful lifestyle. As John Wolfgang said “By seeking and blundering we learn.” On my early days as a middle school student, I have always wanted to be the best in everything, I had my first presentation at that time, however, I was like every student at the beginning shy, lost and stammer. I started the introduction first and I looked at their eyes, I felt nervous and frightened, which made me stop for one minute.
Over the last several decades the government has always found a way to control the personal lives of our society, and they are now controlling what foods we put in our bodies and how often we exercise. Starting with the school systems, the government is slowly changing what they allow in the cafeteria and the amount of exercise a child needs to partake in throughout a school day. In Pennsylvania, a physical education class is required from kindergarten to high school. I attended Southern Elementary school in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, for seven years of elementary school, and once a week we had P.E. class for an hour. There, we had to either play games, complete physical tests, or run the mile depending on the day. Then, for seventh and eighth grade I went to Southern Middle school, where a gym and health class was on an alternating schedule. Every day one, three, and five we were required to go to a gym class, and every day two, four, and six we had health class. In high school, gym and health classes were not required as often. I took only one semester of gym and one semester of yoga throughout my four years of high school, and two semesters of health. Only two physical education classes and two health classes were required, but many students took more throughout the years to fill their schedules with “fun” classes. Not only is the government controlling in classes involving exercise, but they also had a big say in what was bought in the cafeteria at lunch time. For every
Another interesting experience that helped me gain confidence was my speech communications class with my professor, Mrs. Larson. I knew I didn't have any trouble with talking to a group of people. I love to tell jokes and stories to many people at one time, but I was nervous and somewhat embarrassed about preparing some boring speech and making everyone else suffer by listening to it. Mrs. Larson explained that we all have problems with this and that it can be overcome. I remember something simple she said that stuck in my mind: "The only way to get over the fear of something is to just do it." She was right. As I had to go up to give the speech, her words constantly kept running through my mind. After the speech, I realized that we were all in the same boat suffering from the same seasickness- nervousness, We all had to give speeches. No one was out to criticize anyone else and we all ended up supporting each other! I learned that I could make a "boring" speech interesting if I have fun with it and feel comfortable as the speaker of the moment.
Br. Armin Luistro FSC, Department of Education secretary, said that instead of having six years elementary and four years high school, the system will be changed to seven years elementary and five years high school. Former secretaries of the said department since already proposed the plan. This year, they will push through with the K-12 education plan. It is one of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino’s plans for the improvement of the country’s education system. Majority of the Filipinos are truly against it because of the additional burden it can cause. Although adding two more years to the basic 10-year education system of the Philippines will cost the poorest Filipinos, imposing the 12-year education plan will give more job opportunities to students, make more globally competitive students and maximize their time on choosing their career base on ability.
There are a couple of things that I do feel I lack the confidence and skill to perform, and that is what I hope to gain from participating in presentations. I am scared to present because I don't know how to share my knowledge with others-students who may have no idea what I am talking about (Lecture 9, Group And Teamworking, 06/12/2011). I hope to learn more about how teachers share their knowledge as part of my own understandings.
