Many schools in America today are considering in having a longer schedule. However, having a longer schedule has more negatives than positives. Most parents already have a customized schedule that works with the traditional school schedule. Altering schools’ terms can affect the parents’ optimized day-by-day routines. Parents would have to make major changes to their work schedules. Vacations are shortened resulting in shorter family bonding time. High school students would have conflicts with summer jobs. They will not have to whole summer off and could only work in short breaks during the school year. In order for some schools to change their schedules, school bus transportation and other costs need to be considered. Student

This schedule change might impact after school sports and clubs, but not by much. It would only involve starting games and practices an hour later, a mere cost for that extra hour of sleep. The bus drivers would simply switch which kids they pick up first. The parents would be grateful to have their little kids out of the house earlier. The students would reap the benefits in their test scores. The small price for this change would benefit everyone.

Students would benefit immensely from this change, as resources and facilities could be upgraded with the extra funds that come from being in school for fewer days. Activities that normally couldn’t be done during class, like time to work on homework, and activities that take longer than an average class time allows, such as science labs, could be worked into the schedule. The added Friday or Monday would give teachers and students an extra day to recover from the intense curriculum and be able to obtain a much needed period of relaxation. Studies show that the amount of discipline referrals issued go down. The Chattooga county school district saw a 73% drop in discipline referrals(Vittana). This is because the students had an extra day off and don’t have to focus for five straight days on school. In addition to being more rested from the extra day off. Students that are more focused and rested learn better. So it increases the value of class time where a 5 day school week by Friday students can be unfocused and not rested. That leads to unhappy students who aren’t learning and probably gonna distract other students to keep them from learning. So

How would it sound if school weeks were only four days long and, in doing that, it saved your school money at the same time? Well, for some rural schools across the nation, this has become a reality. Four day school weeks are becoming a necessity for some rural school districts that lack funding. It provides a realistic way for schools to remain open and also has added benefits beyond saving money. Four day school weeks may not be a realistic situation for all schools throughout the nation, but for those that it is possible, the four day school week saves money, improves test scores, and further improves the school as a whole.

First and foremost, they are fewer days to attend. In other words kids would have to come to school less. For Example Bill’s school is on this ,and bill can do a lot of his make-up work. If students had after school practices for sports, music, or other activities those practices would go later (Morgan). With practices going later it may be harder for students to study, be social, and still have time to do homework (Morgan). However the question is if students don’t have to wake up earlier then what’s going to keep them from going to bed at an even later time (Morin). With the later release times it may not be worth it.

Attendance will increase for not only students but teachers as well. With the motivation of having a three day weekend, students and teachers will feel encouraged to come to school. As the attendance increases, students will be able to understand the material taught more, teachers attending more school will help reduce the price for substitute teachers. Teachers will also have the opportunity to finish a lesson, instead of continuing it on to the next day.This helps increase the quality of class discussions. Although the schools districts will not be saving money on utility or wages, they will be able to save money on transportation and in the cafeteria. Busses and other public transportation methods will no longer be needed on the fifth day, which ends up saving money on gas. The cafeteria will be able to save money on the account that they will have one less day to order food for. They also will not t have to use the ovens or lights in the cafeteria, decreasing the utility by an almost unnoticeable amount. Although the increase of attendance for students is excellent for the four day week program, the increase of attendance for teachers may not benefit everyone. Only having a four day school week would give the students an extra day for the weekend. This extra day would give the students more of a childhood. The students, teachers, and even the staff would get more time to go and explore more things in and even outside their city. Students would have more quality time with their family and could bond more. Giving them the extra day off could also help the students with sports, arts, or hobbies by giving them more time

Others might say that with a four-day school week you have an extra day to sleep in, hang out with friends and do whatever. But that is wrong, with a four-day week you wouldn’t have time for after school activities, you would have financial problems and students would focus less. they are many reasons why you would have the issues, but I am going to tell you the most important one. So I can change your mind as you read my point of view of a four-day school week.

My life has been a test since I turned into an online student. Every day I am currently battling to adjust coming home from being at work all night, my life and my school work are hard to balance. Just to let you know what I do at work my positions on my job is housekeeping supervisor and I work at Parkland Hospital Tuesday through Sunday, and I leave home going to work at 8:30 pm it takes me 35 minutes to get there so I won't be late. When I get there, I start getting thing ready for my employee’s. So, I must start printing material that everybody needs so when they come we will be ready to start our meeting with the staff and begin working. We prepare rooms for the patient to be checked- in the hospital. With every one of these obligations, my work night is full, and I regularly don't have time to take a break before it is 7:30 am and start my drive home.

Students would also need to power through longer school days in order to meet instructional hour requirements. If students are less attentive, their performance will drop. If absent, students will miss more material due to the longer school days. Students could forget curriculum over the extra day not in school. Despite these points having some real validity to them, four day school weeks can lessen our environmental impact.

The first reason schools should have a four day week is because some families have stuff to do during the week. For example I have a doctor’s appointment during school today. Also people have family things to do like funerals etcetera. The last reason is that some people don’t have time to do stuff after school.

How would parents like it if their children came home late and had to rush to do all of their homework in a short period of time before dinner and/or bed?  This would cause quality time to create a family bond to dramatically . So in return, children who not home spending time with their family, they are creating weak family relationships. When a weak family is existent  a large amount lot of conflicts will break a family apart. If the school board chooses to make school days longer it will affect students by giving them less time to study, it will take longer for children to see their parents and in return, it will create weak families that will break apart because they won't know them like they should and it will take away time to use for fun because you are only a kid once.

Late into my seventh grade year of school my parents told me that they were going to give me a choice to either continue going to my local high school or go to a private, college preparatory high school in my area. Because I come from the St. Louis Missouri area there is a plethora of private schools to choose from, each with their own unique atmosphere and level of academic challenge. I knew that with a college prep high school I would presumably be getting a better education than what was offered in the public school, but I also knew that none of my friends from grade school would be going with me and I would be going into a completely new environment with no backup plans or friends to rely on.
