Imagine going to school being half asleep,High Schools should begin later in the day to accommodate for students to get natural sleep they need, Teenagers usually are not aware during the day due to sleep schedules. Sleep also affects the health of teens who do not get enough rest. High schools should change their schedules to help students become more advanced in school. High Schools should begin later in the day to accommodate for students to get the natural sleep they really need. Natural sleep clocks would keep them awake during the day. With a natural sleep clock, students can have all the sleep they need to last them through the day. Therefore they would be energized for the day. It will help keep students more active during classes.
Over 87% of teenagers don’t get enough sleep and go to school tired. Teenagers have constant expectations to live up to, but with the amount of sleep they’re getting it can be seemingly impossible. The question has been brought up time and time again, should the school day start later? Because of the risks of not getting enough sleep, trying to keep up with their their busy schedules, and being in their adolescent years, having the school day start later would help teenagers around the world immensely.
Schools all around the nation have starting times for school, that are too early for the students and teachers alike. Schools starting times should be 8:30 in the morning or later, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Sleep loss has become more common in children due to early start times which only gives them 6-7 hours of sleep a night when growing children should have 8-9 hours a night. children suffer the chronic loss of sleep due to the hormonal roller coaster that you call puberty, which only lets them begin to go into a REM sleep around 10 p.m. . It’s also been proven that adolescent children suffer from highers risks of physical health problems, mental health problems, lower test scores, missing school, substance abuse, and being in a car crash due to sleep deprivation. Students end up having to get up before 6:30 to get ready and catch the bus or walk to school, but when you have to study for hours after school, eat, clean up, participate in extracurricular activities, including sports and clubs, and do chores in less than 4 hours to get the sleep they require to be healthy mentally and physically it’s almost impossible. School should start later to better our future generations, with more sleep we could have more positive members of societies.
The hours of school should be changed. Let’s be thoughtful towards teenagers and give them an extra hour of sleep each night. It won’t hurt the younger kids to get up earlier, as most of them wake up at dawn anyway. Unless you want to see groggy kids walking into school, who pulled all nighters studying, and can’t stay awake long enough to take their test. More sleep equals improved
Research has shown that teenagers experience a change in the internal sleep clock so that waking up early and going to sleep early are difficult. Some people believe that high school classes should begin later in the day to better accommodate students’ natural sleep clocks. Waking up early can be a real struggle for teenagers. Most teens naturally sleep in until ten thirty or eleven on weekends. I do believe high school classes should start later because teens could sleep more naturally, it would give teenagers more time to do things in the mornings, and more sleep equals better

Having a later school start time can increase a student’s academic grades and awareness. Thirty-three percent of teens say that they fell asleep in class. Even though this is a small portion of teens, falling asleep in class shouldn’t even happen once. Also, this means they are getting less than what they need,(eight to nine hours of sleep a night). A school needs to pack as much teaching time as they can in a day, but if that means waking up a student at a time so early, then there's no point.When a student doesn’t sleep as much, students are not aware as they would be if they had a good night’s rest. If students had this sleep, the would pay more attention in class. Therefor, a student would have better grades.

Unfortunately, two-thirds of teens are getting less than 7 hours of sleep each night, according to the NSF’s chart. This is causing a large number of schools and scientists to think that schools should start later in the morning. I fiercely disagree with this. Schools should not start later because starting later for high schools would cause too many negative consequences.

Students that stay up late at night are way too tired to learn when they get to school early in the morning. Most students who do stay up late are unable to sleep due to melatonin not yet being produced. This shows that starting school at a later time would have many positive benefits. These benefits include higher test scores, increased attendance, more participation from students, and higher performance from athletes.

A later start time would also help teachers get more sleep. Teachers would also be appreciative because their students would be more alert, listen better, and get better grades. Students hate getting up so early for school. Right? Teenagers on average need at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night. A two thousand twelve study shows that students who start school an hour later than usual saw their math scores on standardized tests increase an average of 2.2 percent. When students are able to get the sleep they need, they are able to get up and make it to school on time. Also when students get the sleep needed, they not only are able to make it to school on time but it gives them the sleep they need to be able to function which improves academically. High School start times should start later because it allows more sleep for teenagers, increases attendance and improves academically.
I believe schools should move to a later start time. Starting later will be beneficial to teens. Starting time later will benefit teens because as they are growing and getting older they are requiring more sleep. First, teens require more sleep. For instance, teens require about 9.5 hours of sleep after puberty but only get 7.5 hours.
Scientist studies shows that kids should have a later start time so they can have a certain amount of sleep for a kids health process those who disagree are in school not taking responsibility and not helping a kids health later start times should be accepted because it helps a kids health for a longer need of sleep to take care of a kids health.
Kids would be willing to go to sleep with more sleep. A lot of kids have many things to do after school such as: get homework finished, study for a test or quizzes, go to work, attend church events, and play sports.Students would have more time to get their homework done and more time to study as well as have the chance to have a social life outside of school. In high school tests is a big grade usually in each and every students class but in order for the students to get a high grade on the test they need to have the ability to study but if they are tired from getting up for school so early in the morning they will just want to go to bed and forget about studying and then they will just go to class and just hope they do well enough to pass. In a study by the National Parenting Center when they compared a hundred and fifty high students having high grade point average with their peers with lower grade point averages, most of the higher gpa students woke up later on school days, woke up earlier on the weekend, and had less night time awakenings (“Poor sleep, poor grades”). Having school start early means that the morning classes are early as well and most students today come in late just so they can sleep in a little longer so the morning classes will have less attendance. It will give them more time to get to school on time and not be late and frustrated.

The sleep researcher mentioned earlier, Wendy Troxel, said in her presentation that when kid’s are woken up by an alarm, they are literally robbed of their dreams. Dreams are associated with learning development. In order for student’s to use the most of their brains, they need to be receiving the right amount of good quality sleep.
