Hillary Clinton is an American politician who is currently the leading presidential candidate for the Democratic Party. She made her mark in the political world as First Lady of the United States as the wife of Bill Clinton. Since her time in the White House, she was elected as the first woman Senator of New York and recently served as Secretary of State for the Obama administration in 2009. She ran for the democratic nomination in the 2008 presidential election however; she lost the nomination to current President Barack Obama. This loss just pushed her to become the strong activist she is known for presently. Throughout her campaign, Clinton has been seen in various news and social media outlets; including Twitter, Facebook, and CNN, where …show more content…

Since the demographic for Twitter users is more heavily weighted towards young adults, (Journalism.com 11/21/15). After famous baseball player, Yogi Berra, passed away, Clinton took a break from tweeting about politics and recognized his greatness in the game. (Hillary Clinton. Twitter 9/23/15) This tweet shows that in addition to a political agenda, Clinton is also trying to appear more relatable. Because tweets are only 140-characters, Clinton must convey her message in a digestible medium. On September 18th, Clinton tweeted, “the House voting to defund Planned Parenthood is an attack on women’s health – nothing more, nothing less. Republicans should be ashamed” (Twitter 9/18/15). This clear and bold statement reveals Clinton’s views of defunding Planned Parenthood in a way easy for Twitter users to read, react, and then immediately share. There are thousands of responses to her statements demonstrating Twitter as a forum for people to voice their opinions. The Facebook fan page is supportive of Clinton because she meets the goals outlined by the Balance of Power PAC. However, content on the Facebook page is geared more closely to the goals of the PAC and not with the agenda of the Clinton campaign. In contrast, Clinton’s twitter account allows her “to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers” (Twitter) with her campaign being able to generate the source of discussion. On Twitter, Clinton generates the discussion herself and therefore she has more control over the tone and debates being had whereas the Facebook page generated discussion more closely related to the goals of the PAC. On Twitter, Clinton can ultimately limit the scope of her message to her 4.4 million followers on Twitter and have some control over the discussion of the debate. However, her Facebook fan page is a collection of the views and debates of the general public and Clinton has little control over the posts visible on that
President Obama not only was the first African American to be elected, but was also the first presidential candidate to effectively use social media as a major campaign strategy. In many ways the election of Barack Obama mimicked that of John F. Kennedy, both having changed politics forever. For John F. Kennedy it was the television and for Obama it was the internet. Barack Obama’s strategy of using the internet as a campaigning tool was a key to his victory in the election. He used the internet to organize his supporters. He had many more friends and followers on his Facebook and Twitter than his opponent John McCain did. The social media landscape looks a lot different now. There has been an increasing number of social media tools now than there were
According to communications.tufts.edu, “Social Media refers to the means of interaction in which they create, share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.” Early major Social Media platforms include MySpace and Facebook, but have grown to include apps and websites like Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter. All of these can be a “scrapbook” of sorts, a way of storing photos, videos and stories that will stay on the internet one way or another. In fact, even if a user deletes their account, it is very possible to still access what they shared. However, Social Media isn’t just used by the common folk, it is also used by the leaders of our world. For example, many current news headlines like to focus on Donald Trump’s use of Twitter, but it is a great way to easily communicate with his country. For example, at 6:33 p.m. on March 22nd, he tweeted “Spoke to U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May today to offer condolences on the terrorist attack in London. She is strong and doing very well.” Although Trump tweeted this to show that the UK Prime Minister is feeling okay after the attack at her country, it also shows the diplomatic connection between the two. Trump would not tweet a message like this about Kim Jong-un, because the US and North Korea don’t have a good diplomatic connection. Donald Trump also uses Twitter to update what he is working on. Examples include: “Big day for healthcare. Working hard!”, “Honored to sign S442 today...” “My representatives had a great meeting w/ Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at the WH today. Look forward to tremendous growth & future mtgs!” Donald Trump isn’t the only world leader to use Twitter. Other current and past users include Pope Francis, Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family, Cristina Kirchner and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. It is difficult to ignore the growth of Social Media for not just common people, but for world leaders.
How presidential candidates present themselves in the media can be proven to impact election results dramatically. Political figure using social media did not start to become more common until after the 2008 election because Twitter and Facebook were just recently created, but by looking at data from the past two elections it shows that the news presidential candidates put on their social media can correlate with how people will decide to vote. After researching what topics political candidates post and how they present themselves in the media with election results it can be established that a candidate’s presence in social media can have an impact on how people might vote in an election. “By 2008 candidate websites were standard and campaigns
Born in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A., she attended Wellesley College, then earning a J.D. (Juris Doctor) from Yale Law School in 1973. This hardworking presidential candidate is a woman who’s been fighting for children and families for over forty years. Someone who has provided her best works in reaching over the limits of a woman and providing millions of children with health care. This person is Hillary Clinton, and these are the only some of the biggest accomplishments she has made during her lifetime, there can and will be more if she gets voted as President of the United States of 2016-2020. She has been through many experiences in government, such as being an American lawyer and politician, U.S.
The democratic candidate Hilary Clinton announce her participation in the 2016 presidential campaign on April 15, 2015, via a YouTube video. Ever since she’s been appealing to her audience in ways that only she can. In the democratic party, her main opponent was Vermont senator, Bernie Sanders. She was able to overpass Bernie Sanders and is now head to head with Republican candidate, Donald Trump.
The use of twitter by both the viewers and the candidates are geared toward one particular goal: to try to change the mind of voters. By candidates operating on Twitter they possess the ability to make instant rebuttals to something that another candidate has said without having to release an official statement or waiting until the next debate. Also in an age of social media candidates and their campaigns believe that it is one of the most effective ways to broadcast information and connect with voters. Twitter users also use this median as a way to make fun at a candidate’s position or simply try to convince others to change the way they have chosen to vote. Many twitter users from the Republican party took to the social media website to bash the democratic candidates and their policy positions. One user slammed a comment made by Governor Martin O’Malley that the greatest threat facing the United States was climate change. This made for a twitter field day with other users implying that the democratic candidates do not take the threat of terrorism and ISIS seriously which disqualifies them from the presidency. These type of instances can have negative effects for either party because of how quickly a retweet can make a statement viral and could end up severely hurting a campaign. However, this reaction did not alter my impression of the candidates or the debate at

We use email constantly throughout our everyday life. We use it to communicate with each other, receive notification, and exchange documents. In the end, your email can say a lot about who you are and how privacy is not always there. Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email account being used on a private server has caused quite a lot of controversy. But will this email scandal doom Hillary Clinton’s presidency? Even when her message cannot be expressed humorously, Kirkman does not hesitate to share her opinion with the masses. Her primary focus is not on being funny, but rather, it is on eliciting positive, active responses beyond laughter. Although she is a comedian, she understands the importance of using her fame to spread important messages. “Immediacy and intimacy of social media networking sites may mean that messages spread by charged comics are taken more seriously and heard by more people” (Krefting 242). When asked about her Twitter account in an interview with The Boston Globe, Kirkman said, “I’m not a big fan of young people… and the tweets are my response to the Internet generation, which I find to be really unsophisticated’’ (Anderman 2). By composing humorous, informative and opinionated posts on a youth-driven social media platform, Kirkman may be able to influence or provoke political interest in the unsophisticated Internet generation. On the other hand, one must be aware that “charged humor can limit the commercial potential of a comic persona,” as people may react poorly to comedians’ opinions and choose to turn against them (Krefting 25). For example, on August 3, 2016, Kirkman tweeted: “I LIKE that Hillary [Clinton] has murdered a lot of people” (Saxena 1). The tweet resulted in an outpouring of criticism and death threats from Hillary Clinton supporters and

Hillary Clinton is a former First Lady, U.S. Senator from New York, 67th United States Secretary of State, and was the Democratic Party’s nominee for the President of U.S. in 2016.
