Hill (2014) book was based on three stages exploration, insight, and action. All three stages are salient to success as a therapist. I think that the exploring stage is the most important because if therapist don’t ask the correct questions they can’t have a proper understanding of why the client is seeking treatment. This can also lead to malpractice if therapist are not mindful about the situation. I have strengths and challenges at each of the three stages of helping. In the exploration stage, one strength for me is observing. I am very good at paying attention to nonverbal behaviors. I always thought that nonverbal behaviors can give a person a better understanding of how a person feels. Sometimes as people we have a harder time explaining how we feel and we are better at showing it. For example, a depressed person may not be able to conceptualize how they feel but a trained therapist can have an understanding of they feel by looking at how they react. A therapist should use everything for data collection, from how a person talks about a situation to their nonverbal behavior.one …show more content…
Based on my performance at National session, I was able to gain insight and understand my client's issue. Asking open question is imperative to get the client to talk and more importantly being comfortable in the environment. My challenge within this stage is interpreting. Hill (2014) defines interpretation as interventions that beyond what the client is saying. This is an issue for me because when I was working with my client as National Session time went so quickly. It was as if as soon as the session started it was over. So many things were happening at one time it was hard to slow things down and interpret what was going on. Therefore clearly, one way for me to address this issue to slow things down and relax. I need to find a way to become comfortable with
cognition, behavior, disorder, etc.). With the knowledge in a specified area, the professional can use theory and evidence based techniques to assess the client they are working with. By using theory and research, along side personal work experience, the professional can adequately use strategies and systems to impact the well-being of their client. An example of this would be a professional who has studied behavioral psychology. Through proper course work, experience, and practice, the professional can understand and assess the behaviors of their client in the most impactful
There are strengths that I have yet to discover or recognized within myself. But, If I were to select only five strengths that I have recognized within myself, they would be: my strength of intuitiveness, the power of being a good listener, my willpower, the extreme organizational skills, and open-mindedness. All of the strengths depend on each other to thrive
My second key strength is showing gratitude to others. If someone does something for me or helps me develop a new skill. I show gratitude to them by thanking them, and I tell them that really appreciate their help. I am there for that person when they need my help.
Areas of Strength After observing myself as a knower, I found that my strengths lie in the following three forms of inquiry: aesthetic (meaning), ethical (values), and sociopolitical (context) (Hatrick Doane & Varcoe, 2014b). This is because I feel that my knowledge within this area can be applied within multiple viewpoints.
There are three important aspects to the therapist’s approach; congruence, unconditional positive regard and accurate empathic understanding. These are three core conditions that facilitate the actualization and growth. These conditions relate to the shared journey in which therapists and clients reveal their humanness and participate in a growth experience together. Its only
Another strength of mine is my passion and enthusiasm for the field. This trait is something I pride myself in and means that I put 100% effort into everything I do. My passion is evident by the autistic patient I work with. I give extra assistant with this patient because I want to and not because my supervisor requires me to. I volunteered over the other techs to be included in all her
avid stared at the fence, the backpack thumping against his back as he walked forward, the sun beating down heavily on him. James followed him, the running commentary ranging from the plans they had for their last summer before college, to the new counter girl at Dairy Queen who James wanted to ask out even if she might be a Sophomore. James steadily avoided the topic in front of them as David checked the pockets in his cargo shorts and felt behind in for what was in the backpack, mentally reviewed what he had packed there. Looking around to make sure no one was in sight he pulled the machete from the pack behind and slipped it into place on his belt. Overall not much, since he only intended to be there for the night, though they both knew the unspoken truth, no one had ever gone into Princess Park for an overnight and returned.
My second and third ranking strength were Empathy and Harmony. Out of all the strengths these are the two I feel really go hand-in-hand. “Empathy-You can see the sense of emotions of those around you. You can feel what they are feeling as though their feelings were your own. Intuitively, you are able to see the world through their eyes and share their perspective. You do not necessarily agree with each person’s perspective. You do not necessarily feel pity for each person’s predicament-this would be sympathy not empathy. You do not necessarily condone the choices each person makes, but you do understand. The instinctive ability to understand is powerful.” “Harmony-You look for areas of agreement. In your view there is little to be gained from conflict and friction, so you seek to hold them to a minimum. When you know people around you hold differing views, you try to find a common ground.” (PH.Ds, Clifton, O., Anderson, E., Schreiner, L., Pg 26) When I was still digesting my strengths out of all the top five listed these two I am most grateful for, and in my opinion will be the most useful not only in life, but also in the
The One-Child policy is not being enforced like it would have been in ancient China. During the Qin Dynasty Laws were carried in a stricter manner. For example Qin Shi Huangdi killed Daoist and Confucian scholars the burned their books because they would not change their ideology. However, in modern days such an act would not be tolerated by anyone and now instead of killing the people who broke the rule they are forced to get an abortion or sterilization.
I feel like all of my strengths were spot on, but the one that I really feel represents me best is the Empathy. I’ve always been able to put myself in other people’s shoes and feel what they may be feeling.
As humans, and particularly individuals, we all have personal strengths that we bring to our interactions with others as well as areas that perhaps need some more time and attention in order to improve upon them. In this journal, I’ll be focusing on four areas of strength I believe I have, as well as four areas the require further growth and personal change.
Solution-focused therapy is different from narrative and collaborative therapy because it focuses more on discovering solutions to problems by asking miracle and scaling questions (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013). Solution-focused therapists utilize miracle and scaling questions to help clients change their thoughts and behavior. Miracle questions challenge clients to think about what their lives could be like if all their problems suddenly went away and were solved (Henderson & Thompson, 2016). Scaling questions challenge the client to magnify their view of the current circumstance (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013). Solution-focused therapy is also different from narrative and collaborative therapy because the counselor leads the counseling session. Counselors lay out clear expectations for their clients to change, and expect them to actively participate in counseling so change occurs. The third difference between the three approaches is that solution-focused therapy is complaint-based, while narrative and collaborative therapy is not (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013). Clients come to counseling with a complaint, and counselors typically work with those who ready and willing to change. Another difference is that solution-focused therapy consists of five steps, which are “co-constructing a problem and goal, identifying and amplifying exceptions, assigning tasks, evaluating effectiveness, and reevaluating problems and goals” (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013, p. 382). Collaborative and narrative therapy do not follow these five
Through my personality and learning style I am able to identify a couple of personal strengths and weaknesses. My learning style is a combination of visual and auditory learning, so I am able to learn better with images as well as learning through discussions. Discussion helped me to identify one of my strengths as I am open-minded I am able to listen and see others perspectives on a topic. Whereas my personality shows my weakness as I am an introvert I do not tend to speak up on my ideas or thoughts in discussions.

Intuitively, I believe that my greatest strengths lie in the fact that I am intelligent and ambitious. I also work very hard to achieve my goals. However, with that being said, Drucker believes that the best way to get a sense about your own personal strengths is through feedback. When I think of all the feedback I have gotten over the years, I think this validates the intelligence intuition. I have also been quick to find answers and many people have come to me for advice. However, it is harder to find feedback evidence for my other intuitions.
