How I feel about hip-hop
If you're looking for some terrible, inappropriate, and terrifying music, just listen to hip-hop. In my opinion hip-hop is has great beats with terrible lyrics. I just don't think hip-hop needs to portray lyrics that have to do with drugs, gangs, violence and sexism. These lyrics are starting to have bad influences on the younger generation. I do not enjoy hip hop music because it's sending a bad message to the younger generation, it includes bad language and its having and affect on kids judgment.
One of the main reasons why I don’t like hip-hop is because it's sending a bad message to younger generations. Everytime I seem to listen to hip-hip it's always talking about how you're going to harm someone or do drugs. So this is causing younger kids to make bad choices based on what they hear. For example if you listen to a hip-hop song about stealing someone's car then most likely you're going to want to steal someone's car because you think it's the “cool” thing to do. Another example is that in an essay written by Anthony M Giovacchini he stated that “ in april 1992 texin Ronald Howard was caught driving a stolen car. Police tried to

Hip-hop songs seem to always have cuss words or inappropriate sayings in them. There are barely any clean songs out there. Anthony Giovacchini stated in his essay that “ the new music nowadays portrays images of guns gangs violence and sexism”. Therefore I am not the only one feeling this way. Another example is that N.W.A released a new song to the world of hip-hop that had some pretty harsh words in it. So bad that is even inappropriate for me to say. If you would like to read the essay that he wrote about the song and why it's inappropriate I will leave a footnote at the bottom. Overall I do feel like over time hip-hop has changed into a more gang related type of music rather than music you could just dance
Hip hop’s recieved a bad reputation within the last decade. It is known to negatively influence the younger generation. In the article, “America’s Hip Hop Double-Standard” Perkins asserts that the real issue is that men, black and white, no longer are able to financially support their families. This could be leading to poor behavior and decisions, and could be cqausing people of all ages to listen to hip-hop. In other words, Perkins believes that “as a genre, it references, violance, poor choices, drug use, and a general disrespect towards authority and towards women. The fact that its popularity at all just says a lot about us” (“Does Hip”). Maybe if hip hop wasn’t around, the degrading of women wouldn’t be so bad, maybe drugs wouldn’t be
When you think Hip Hop what do you think? Do you automatically associate it with positive and uplifting words or more along the lines of degrading behavior? Most likely you think the latter of these two choices. The media depicts Hip Hop as such a negative thing when in reality it isn’t. It’s music constantly being blamed for violence and outrage within the community. Rappers themselves accused of being nothing more than ignorant “thugs” not only creating but supporting chaos when that is not the case. In Nasir Jones’ (a.k.a Nas) song “It ain’t hard to tell”, he uses a very selective word choice, tone and speaker to show there is more to a rapper than just the “thuggish or gangster” label they are given.
In the early 70’s Hip Hop was the most popular music for not just black but other races. I think that Hip Hop can Positive and negative. Old Hip Hop is inspirational and motivational it bring out a message that you can learn form. New generation Hip Hop has changed to a more negative inspiration to the community. New generation tries to focus on the bad thing that are going on around you. It bring a bad option to our race because other races think that all blacks act the same. Most new generation Hip Hop influences people to do drugs, alcohol, money, and sex. Real Hip Hop comes from your heart.
Hip Hop is more than music; Hip Hop is a general public. Over the span of late decades, Hip Hop has affected and propelled America, talking up for periods and giving a voice to a get-together of people endeavoring to pass on a message. Adversaries of the Hip Hop society battle that the music is mighty in nature and advances social resistance however provocative verses don't invalidate the way that Hip Hop is a vocal outlet for a few people in America. Hip Hop has given a phase to MCs and rappers to express their sentiments about society, the lawmaking body and the treatment of African Americans in America for a significant long time. This outlet is fundamental for the raising of the Black culture and would benefit society totally if people confined to Hip Hop endeavored to get a handle on the lifestyle rather than attack the
Primarily, the first reason hip hop has such a large misconception is the violence people believe it entails. A lot of artists include gun violence, derogatory language and numerous of violent acts. Yet, the media fails to realize that these rappers and artists are telling a story. Just because hip hop raps or includes the notation of drugs, gang violence and murderers does not mean this is the sole purpose behind the music. There is no denying that these elements are not including in the hip hop reign, thus it is important to realize hip hop originates from partying and having fun. Bringing back the point that the genre also gives people who did not have a voice prior a chance to tell stories. Media wants to frame Hip hop as simply just being
Even with the seemingly endless list of negative influences, there are countless positive influences deeply rooted in the soul and culture of hip hop. Hip hop is facing the same criticisms that every new type of music has faced in the development of that genre of music. Blues, Jazz, and Rock (in their beginnings) all scared parents and were criticized by the media, but they are now widely accepted and considered “clean” music. New music of any generation is always scary to the non-youth in society because the media only focuses on bad points and downfalls, but always fail to mention the good being done. Breaking down cultural barriers is the most positive influence rap has had on society. It creates/sustains community, is the voice of the people, defines generations, fuels needed protest, and calls attention to injustices. This new style of music allows anybody to control their destiny from the ground up, and has become a new medium for social commentary. Hip hop allows the underprivileged and discriminated to express their feelings, and
The corruptness of music today seems to be linked to the crude language and aggression found particularly in hip-hop and rap music. Some rap artists use vulgar language in their lyrics that are easily adoptable by teens (Holden). Not only have certain lyrics influenced the way teens speak but also their actions. An article on Headliners.org stated that “lyrics in the music are too violent and are to blame for many problems.” The problems range anywhere from suicide and aggression towards women to underage drinking and drug use. Lyrics are not only to blame, but also what people see in artists’ music videos can affect what they do (Doaks). The urge to emulate these rap musicians has escalated quickly causing a spike in rebellious tendencies among teens.
Analysis of Hip-Hop and Youth Culture Throughout the last twenty-five years, a new form of expression has continued to evolve. Hip-Hop, once limited to urban music and dance has become a widespread form of communication exhibited and enjoyed by young people throughout the world. Hip-Hop is no longer limited to rap music and break dancing; today it represents a multi-billion dollar industry that influences everything from fashion to prime- time television programming, professional sports, mass media marketing and advertising. Today Hip-Hop is becoming a way of life, a culture that is intricately woven into every aspect of young people's daily lives.
Why does hip-hop have a bad vibe? I think the answer lies in the culture of violence and misogyny that many people believe hip-hop culture inspires. Many people assume that saggy pants, hoodies, and gold chains define a person. Traditionally, people who dress that way are often associated with the hip hop culture, but does that mean that they are bad people? No, it does not. There are bad people who listen to every type of music. What about the lyrics about women and their assets? Does that make hip hop a bad influence on our culture? So again, why pick on hip hop when our entire culture promotes violence and misogyny. People need to stop blaming a music genre for society’s problems.
It has been instrumental in the election of political figures and has given the youth an outlet they can turn to in order for their concerns and issues to be heard. It has been used to support social movements and call attention to issues of poverty, positive and negative effects of pop culture and art. Hip-hop is often seen as a negative aspect of our society due to the violence, occasional sexual advocacy, and explicit lyrics that are sometimes broadcasted within the music. It has been a part of our reality and social culture as a way to reach multiple generations and genres. While we realize the social impact it has on everyday culture, we may not realize how truly important hip-hop is to the general population.
Every year from 1985 to 2013 the top 5 hip hop/rap songs combined to make thirty one thousand five hundred sixty-four curse words. Does this make hip hop a respectable genre of music? This type of music has a negative influence on kids, and it steers them in the completely wrong direction. This is not the kind of music that should be promoted due to the things it says, and the views it has on people based on gender or race. Children especially should not listen to hip hop because it teaches them that it’s cool and okay to say bad words and teaches them that they should judge people and put down the ones that are different.. By looking at hip hop and the impact it has on people one can see that it is unrespectable which is important
The music videos that show a disturbing mix of rap and hip hop dance styles and profane language leaves us many people wondering if hip hop is harming our generation. Some things that said through hip hop and rap are a young person’s desire. The hip hop culture is an instant route to take to live the considered “good life” to our young generation. Many of us
Even though, hip-hop is viewed as primarily of promoting negative message, however, it has reveled the pain behind the lyrics. “Hip hop music, had for over three and half decades, delivered a resounding message of freedom of expression, unity, peace, and protest against social injustices”. (Anderson & Jackson) As hip-hop continues to grow it has continued to remain a strong influential social impact. Hip-hop created a way for many individuals to express themselves on controversial issues seen throughout society.
Hip hop culture is known for its negative reputation. It is often thought as an entrance way into gangs, illegal drug activity, and malicious behavior. In today’s culture it is important to lead kids toward a positive direction in life but the hip hop culture of today is not steering youth in that direction. This is because hip-hop has moved away from what it was supposed to be used for. This genre of music was supposed to be used to for personal expression and growth not to create negative images for the youth and encourage them to change their behaviors and beliefs. Hip hop was supposed to give hope to the youth. Give them a reason to pursue their dreams and give them a positive outlook on life. Are there artists who keep it “old
Hip Hop in the most popular genre of music between all African American communities, not just in America, but worldwide. Hip Hop has expanded itself into music, fashion, advertisement, movies, and it’s given many rappers, and those associated with the genre, the chance to influence their communities, societies and their culture in general, but commercial Hip Hop in the U.S. has branded Hip Hop in a negative way. (The Young and The Hip-Hop, Hip Hop Culture Center in Harlem, 2012, Web, Oct. 27, 2014) This is all due to the negative imagery and negative lyrics like the term nigga, negative implications of Hip Hop include exploiting black adolescent girls, promoting unhealthy lifestyles, and implying that the open use of the word nigga is not harmful. Hip Hop has become a global phenomenon where it has evolved from a genre of music to a lifestyle for the African American community.
