In the movie Kingdom of Heaven here were some historical inaccuracies. The producers main goal is to make money. They will change things up to make it more interesting. Also, this movie was during the second crusades, and some of the weapons, like the longbow, were not being used yet. The land is important to both Christians and Muslims because it's the Holy Land. I will be explaining the inaccuracies of the longbow, Jerusalem geography, and the process in becoming a knight. The longbow was invented in 1180 by Celts in Wales. The English military started using the longbow around 1300’s. The average person could shoot 2-3 times per minute, and a very experienced longbowman could shoot up to 20 per minute. The Holy Land was the birthplace of Christ and was also it was where his crucifixion was. The Crusades were more negative than positive. The outcome was more negative because the Christians started an all out war and murdered many innocent people. At the end of all 9 of the battles the Christians still didn’t come out victorious.
Knight Research Activity Background Information: At the time of the middle ages, knights were commonly known as warriors or noblemen. They were often given the jobs of either guarding a castle/village or protecting and supporting their lord in medieval warfare. Most medieval knights were owned by the king, who would provide them with housing, food, armour, weapons, horses and money in exchange for fealty (loyalty) and military protection. Since the medieval time was such a violent and bloody era, most knights were forced to learn how to use a range of different weapons including two handed swords, battle axes, maces, daggers and lances.
1. Just in case you guys don’t about the history of why the crusades are happening, it’s all about Jerusalem and the Holy Land, or Palestine, have a complicated history. The Holy Land sits at the intersection of three continents, near the birthplace of some of the world’s oldest civilizations. It also borders the Mediterranean Sea, a major artery of conquest and trade. The region is valued as much for its location as for its religious history. The location itself may have been reason enough for people to settle there. In turn, those people developed civilizations that gave rise to the religions that have spent centuries competing for the sacred soil. The three competing monotheistic faiths-Judaism, Christianity, and Islam-met in Jerusalem. Despite their common roots, the differences among the three religions-and their peoples-often sparked conflict.
Author Paul Crawford opens his essay with a quote from former president Bill Clinton the quote refers to the horrific actions taken by Christian crusaders against the Muslim inhabitants of Jerusalem during the First Crusade. The crusades invoke and image of Christian warriors arriving in the Middle East in waves of man and beasts intent on getting rich by fulfilling their bloodlust, and under the protection of a Christian Pope who promised eternal salvation for all who kill the Muslim horde. However, Crawford does not believe that Christian west actions were unprovoked, and he writes about the four misconceptions that are often applied to the crusades.
In a perfect world, everything would go exactly the way you wanted. But that’s the problem. There is no such thing as a perfect world, and the Crusades were the exact opposite. Back in medieval times, Christians felt the need to conquer Jerusalem. At the time, Jerusalem was being protected by Muslims.
Have you heard of the crusaders, and what they did for the holy land? Did the crusaders have a positive or negative effect on the world? Well, they mostly left a negative effect. By the time of the Crusades in Medieval Europe, Knights were nothing out of the ordinary. A knight's training began at around four or five. It involved them learning how to ride a pony. Around the age of eight, the young trainee would be sent to be a page for a lord or a relative with influence. At this point, they would refine their swordsmanship, improve their horse skills, and would be taught more about their religion. At the age of 14, pages were eligible to become a squire, where they continued their sword fighting skills. They would accompany a knight into a battle, care for him, care for his horses, and would simply hope to be chosen to

Christians and Muslims had fought in a series of wars for almost 200 years. The biggest motivation for Crusades between these two religions was to gain control over the Holy land, Jerusalem. The Christians wanted the holy land, "Jerusalem", because this is where Jesus and taught scriptures and biblical stories to citizens that wanted to listen. The Muslims wanted Jerusalem because this is where the prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven from the Temple Mount during his night journey. In this reading the biggest debate about the crusades is whether it was caused by religion devotion or by the desire for political and economic gain.
Phua Kuan Chong, Shawn 5009 - 9185 (L02) Kingdom of Heaven: A Post-Colonial Comparison of the Middle East in the 12th and 21st Century The film ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ is a dramatized re-enactment of the 12th century Crusades in Jerusalem and aired in theatres worldwide in 2005. In the film, the Saracens (Muslims) attempt to reclaim Jerusalem from the Christians but were met with the small and, ultimately, futile resistance organized by the main protagonist - Balian of Ibelin. While considerable efforts have been made to accurately portray historical events, many elements of the film - especially pertaining to the interaction between Christians and Saracens - seem to have been downplayed due to the fear of backlash following the radical Islam
Knights are one of the most mistaken figures of the medieval era due to fairytales and over exaggerated fiction novels. When medieval knights roamed the earth, it was known that they were only human and, like humans, had faults. These knights did not always live up to the standards designated by society. However, in The Canterbury Tales, the knight is revealed as a character that would now be considered a knight in shining armor, a perfect role model in how he acts and what he does. Modern day people see them as chivalrous figures instead of their actual role as mounted cavalry soldiers. As time passes, the idea of what a knight is changes from a simple cavalry soldier to a specific type of behavior.
