To Kill a Mockingbird is a controversial book that is read all around the world. Harper Lee is the author of this novel. Warner Books, Inc. originally published the book in 1960. Since then, the novel is considered as one of the most powerful books of all time. Harper Lee wrote a novel that is fiction, but has a historical presence based on her childhood. Lee grew up in the 1920s with hostility between blacks and whites. To Kill a Mockingbird provides a deep story through the eyes of a young child. To Kill a Mockingbird exhibits a meaningful plot and a memorable set of characters. Scout, is a young girl who narrates the book based on how she sees the world. To Kill a Mockingbird is a powerful novel, which is read around the world. Lee provides the readers with real world connections with characters. The social issues used allow the story to have a much more powerful story. To Kill a Mockingbird provides readers with a dramatic and realistic story.
Harper Lee creates a fictional story that depicts historical references from her childhood in the 1920s. This was a time of the depression and strong racism in the United States. Both of these topics display in To Kill a Mockingbird. The character, town and plot all provide historical references of the time period. In To Kill a Mockingbird, both of Scout’s parents connect with her real life parents. Atticus is a smart man who serves as a doctor and lawyer in the play. Lee’s father worked as a lawyer and newspaper writer. Her father was the main caregiver in her life as her mother suffered from mental health issues. Lee’s mother was thought to suffer from Bipolar disorder and would hide away from the outside world (Harper Lee Biography 1). Lee misses out on a true mother figure and in To Kill a Mockingbird, has her die young in Scouts life. Scout represents a young Harper Lee. Scout and Lee are both tomboyish and full of personality.
