It would seem that this trend will soon be changing; however, as evidenced by the increasing number of members in professional PM organizations and the push from higher education towards a formal path along the PM career line. There are a few organizations out there that are coming to realize the importance of finding and retaining talent in the department of project management. Research indicates that companies are beginning to develop career models and competencies to better prepare and train the people that will hold the roles of Project Manager within their organizations. These models will ultimately lead to better practices, which in turn will serve as a stepping stone for shortened lead times and/or time to market for increased client satisfaction. As these career models materialize and develop in more and more companies, this profession is likely to become more sought out by employees. Knowing how to advance within a company increases the likelihood of your best talents emerging.
