A 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck the border region of Iran and Iraq around 9.18 PM local time on Sunday. The tremors were felt across Middle East. The devastating earthquake took more than 400 lives and reduced several buildings to rubbles.

In Iran itself, the death toll continues to rise, while over 6700 people are injured. In Iraq, several people were killed and over 500 injured.
The epicenter of the earthquake was registered 27 miles from Halabja in eastern Iraq. According to seismologists, Iran sits on a fault line that is prone to quakes.
