History of Educational Technology
Educational technology in a way could be traced back to the emergence of very early tools, e.g., paintings on cave walls. But usually its history starts with educational film (1900s) or Sidney Pressey's mechanical teaching machines in the 1920s.
The first large scale usage of new technologies can be traced to US WWII training of soldiers through training films and other mediated materials. Today, presentation-based technology, based on the idea that people can learn through aural and visual reception, exists in many forms, e.g., streaming audio and video, or PowerPoint presentations with voice-over. Another interesting invention of the 1940s was hypertext, i.e., V. Bush's memex.
The 1950s led to two

Some literature uses the concept of integrated learning to describe blended learning scenarios that integrate both school and authentic (e.g., workplace) settings.
There is no written evidence which can tell us exactly who has coined the phrase educational technology. Different educationists, scientists and philosophers at different time intervals have put forwarded different definitions of Educational Technology. Educational technology is a multifaceted and integrated process involving people, procedure, ideas, devices, and organization, where technology from different fields of science is borrowed as per the need and requirement of education for implementing, evaluating, and managing solutions to those problems involved in all aspects of human learning.
Educational technology, broadly speaking, has passed through five stages.
The first stage of educational technology is coupled with the use of aids like charts, maps, symbols, models, specimens and concrete materials. The term educational technology was used as synonyms to audio-visual aids.
The second stage of educational technology is associated with the 'electronic revolution' with the introduction and establishment of sophisticated hardware and software. Use of various audio-visual aids like projector, magic lanterns, tape-recorder, radio and television brought a revolutionary change in the educational scenario. Accordingly,
Undoubtedly, technology has done wonders throughout and left an ineradicable mark on education, but technology has its
One of the aspirations of New Jersey Board of Education is to “integrate and advance the use of education based technology to enhance student learning and assessment of student.” If this goal is to be achieved, schools will have to start incorporating technology into curriculums. Nowadays there are many ways teachers can embody technology into the classroom. For example, students attending Manual Arts School
Technology is a portion of everyday life. It affects how business is conducted, teaching, learning, and receiving information. If you were to examine the effects of technology on teaching and learning and acquire an understanding of why technology should be a part of every classroom curriculum, the conclusion would be that technology is a great benefit to the classroom. Due to the immerse impact and changes technology had on society, education was bound to change. According to the report submitted to the New York state Education Department,it states “in an era when the world has become increasingly dependent upon technical solutions to problems, educators are challenged to provide individuals with technological literacy as part of the fundamental education” (Dettelis). As a result of technological impact on the society the education system was forced to incorporate and enforce the use of technology in schools. Even though technology was initially incorporated in school s to aid students in academic success, its negative effects on learning are surpassing its benefits. Learning is being compromised as a result of numerous flaws the role of technology has on education, not only are there disparities of technology within schools but the level of technology literacy is insufficient. It is essential for the department of Education to create equality within education, as well as to aid in improving technological literacy among educators.
Education has always been an universal matter of discussion for those who teach and and even for those who learn. This discussion has now become urgent especially since the advent of new technologies and their implications for education. Today there are many studies, ideas and experiences ongoing in education.
In past educational system, technologies were not vast. In early 1920’s, people were not fully aware of how to make teaching learning environment successful. Even in today’s world, there are many technologies or few teaching aids that have been introduced but teacher rarely use them in educational system.
The topic I am going to focus on throughout this paper is how education has changed over time. Over the many years of education changing, technology has had a great impact on how we learn and how teachers go about teaching. The three main topics I am going to focus on throughout this paper is how technology has taken over, what new teaching and learning styles we have, and whether or not technology has really helped with education.
"The study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources." Richey (2008, p. 24)
Technology constantly evolves, adding new features, applications, and creative opportunities for advancements. However, some critics consider education as archaic and unimaginative, for it preserves the practices of pencil and paper, textbooks and notes.
Education and technology come hand in hand. An example of this would be Chromebooks, Chromebooks are one of the best-selling devices for education and these high-end laptops serve 10 million students. In addition, technology has improved ways teachers want to express/teach their lesson, from educational games to powerpoints or videos. The first way technology help education improve is by supplying countless educational apps, or games. Softwares like Windows and Ios are used by more than 2
Today’s education differs much from the education fifty years ago. One of the reasons they are so different is because of technology. In the past fifty years the world of technology has grown tremendously, affecting everything, including education. A few things that have been brought into the world of education are computers, video and digital equipment such as DVDs, digital cameras and recording devices. The technology also includes information presentation technologies which includes the Smart Board, and different interactive whiteboards. There are many more that schools did not have fifty years ago.
The education system around the world has progressed and changed in a plentiful amount of ways, and the concept of knowledge and learning has changed in modern day. For example, certain schools around the globe are moving on to implementing technology in classrooms because it provides many benefits and statistical research that states how students are improving their academic readiness because of the instant access to information, a greater engagement and interactive process in learning, and the personalization that instructors can do towards the educational experience that students receive. The benefits of technology in class can be rather debatable, for there are people who think it's a distraction, but it certainly seems to be beneficial according to the increase of passing percentages in schools.
The use of technology in schools has a great effect on not only students, but teachers as well. Today, we mostly think of technology as computers, but it is much more than that. In fact, one of the first technologies used in the classroom was the chalkboard.
Technology affects every aspect of our lives. From romance to business, it has shown its presence everywhere. But technology has had a huge impact on education that cannot be denied, and has done nothing but improve the quality and quantity of education.
Each year policymakers make difficult choices among attractive educational improvement options. There are many concerns about technology being incorporated in the curriculum for education, especially in early childhood. Many people are skeptical about allowing young children to be on devices such as iPads or computers at any time of the day, but it becomes even more controversial when put into the aspect of education. Our world is becoming very caught up into the life of everything going to technology and we don’t always take a step back and look at how the changes might affect the way we learn.
Across the U.S., technology used in education has been increasing exponentially. Every learning institution ranging from elementary school to college have incorporated technology into their teachings. Online textbooks, quizzes, notes, and classes are all examples of how education has been utilizing technology. While technology has a place in education, not everything in education needs to involve technology.
