Have you worked so hard for something not knowing the outcome? Just skating there hoping for the best outcome? I do it all the time playing hockey. Hockey has been a part of my life, my identity, ever since I can remember. I love playing hockey more than anything. Everything about hockey gets me excited. The different skates you buy to the type of hair you have is mind blowing. I have been doing it for almost 19 years of my life. Hockey is a part of my identity. It has brought confidence, my friends and I closer, and has made me become the man I am today. Identity is something that defines who you are by the exclusive things you do. Growing up in the state of hockey was something that I couldn’t take for granite. When I was just a little boy, my dad would build a hockey rink in our backyard. He used to teach me how to skate and learn the game of hockey on it. I was sometimes so excited to go out there even when it was the coldest of nights. As I grew more a part of the game, I notice the things that have changed. From growing your hair out …show more content…
I have never met a group of guys like my teammates. They are goofy, they know the hockey talk, they basically are closer to you than you can imagine. That group of guys have shaped my identity in a good way. They pushed me out of a comfort zone to the point I can go up and talk to anyone anywhere. For instance, it was much easier to talk to random girls we meet when we go out. Looking back at it, it might have been in an immature way to everyone around us but it worked! They have taught me other hockey skills that I would have never done before if they hadn’t showed me. They would push me to go harder and harder each day. We would know all each other’s parents, sisters, brother’s even grandparents. I would have most of these guys in my wedding if I could. Playing a whole season with them, I can honestly say that they have become more than just teammates. They are
From their friendships came trust. They became open to the constructive criticism of each other. “As they began to see traces of tension and nervousness in one another, they began instinctively to draw closer together. They took to huddling on the float before and after workouts, talking about what, precisely, they could do to make each other row better than the one before, looking one another in the eye, speaking earnestly” (Brown 326) As a team, they came to an understanding that their strength as a group was their endurance. Each teammate never gave up because he did not want to let his teammates down. Working together in class and in sports at Belmont Hill builds friendship and trust. From my first day in school, I was welcomed by my classmates and I felt like I became part of something. I expect that eventually I will develop friendships and bonds of trust with my classmates. My classmates represent a diverse collection of talents and abilities. I feel that I can learn something from each one of them, and hopefully they can learn something from
Last year I played on the best hockey team that I have ever played on. I played for the Waukesha warhawks. Our team wasn’t just good on the ice, but off the ice as well. Every single person on the team got along with each other. Since we all were good friends, that built a connection for our team while we were on the ice. Everyone knew how everyone played and everyone had eachothers back.
When a team establishes trust and friendships, they can truly work together as a whole. Often times the teams I was a part of lacked in this area of bonding. Some of the girls on my soccer team would bicker behind others back and would also try to compete for
A memory that is etched into my brain is when I was asked to come back and be on a national lacrosse team. This summer I went to try out for a national lacrosse team down in Ocean City. The team’s was named, “ Diamond National” and they were a pretty good national team. This is the first time I tried out for a national team and I thought I didn’t do my best at the tryouts. Even though I didn’t do my best I was still asked to come back.
Australia’s sporting identity was built upon the back of colonial differentiation, sensationalist media coverage and some early Olympic success at a time when sport at the global level was still the domain of the rich and idle. The prevailing cultural identity suggests Australia still perceives itself as a ‘sports mad’ society, however, a deeper look at the statistics surrounding Australian sport would suggest this identity is not reality and that cultural identity is now drawn from a much broader field including multiculturalism, politics, academic, scientific and artistic endeavour.
The French speaking people of Quebec lived under heavy oppression in the 1950s and 60s. Many francophone people looking for work in Quebec cities were refused because of their French background. In areas such as Montreal, the francophone people were earning up to 50 percent less than their English speaking peers. There was a clear distinction between the quality of life for the English and the quality of life for the French. It was because of this distinction that the people of Quebec often resented the English and their ways of life. And it is from this resentment, the story The Hockey Sweater was written. The Hockey Sweater is a story told from the perspective of a young boy living in a small town in Quebec. He,
A nations identity is a way for all its common citizens to unite together, and for a country as young as Canada, its identity is often not complete and is ever changing. Social trends and beliefs are constantly evolving and therefore have an impact on how the rest of the world views Canada. However, sports have been a staple in the Canadian identity for over 100 years, but even sports aren’t impermeable to changing times. Over the last 18 years there has been a steady decline in sport participation across all age groups in Canada and to keep the soul of Canada intact it is important to keep funding the sports industry because the growing disinterest in sports puts a main factor of the Canadian identity at risk. Using public tax dollars to build
As the starting Varsity goaltender, I hold a vital leadership role within the locker room which is mentoring the sophomore backup goalie. I work with my net partner to improve his game through practices and warm up sessions. I believe it is my responsibility to pass my hockey knowledge along to him to insure he has the utmost preparation when he takes over the starting role next year.
Second year as an Under-10 Squirt level hockey player for the New Jersey Colonials ice hockey team proved to be a challenging and harrowing experience that shaped the course of my future hockey career. I was a determined, naïve child with fantasies of playing in the NHL when I grew older. The source of my troubles began with Coach Ruben, a relentless, unforgiving hockey coach. Coach Ruben was in charge of determining the AAA hockey team that I desperately wanted to make. Unfortunately, I would not have that opportunity. My mom, compassionate and sympathetic, guided me through the confusing maze of anger and depression. My dad, a coach and former hockey player, gave me valuable, supportive advice that would change my hockey expectations and
Both Lacrosse and Ice hockey are two sports that share similar aspects. One example would be that they both require plenty of athletic prowess, as well as countless hours of training and practice to master. The high amount of contact in both sports enables a player to become both physically and mentally "tough". Lacrosse has grown to its highest level of popularity it has ever reached over the last ten years. Ice hockey has seen a steady climb in its popularity over the past 25 years making it one of the most popular sports in not only Long Island, but all across the U.S. However, there are many differences as well, and we should not overlook the fact that there are plenty of distinctions between the two
Unfortunately we still had tension among players. It even got as far as one player taking the ball from another on the field in the middle of the game. As the season progressed, this problem practically solved itself as we bonded at practices, pre-game get-togethers, and voluntarily spending time together on weekends. We grew from barely tolerating each other to being such a tight-knit group that even schoolmates noticed.
Friday night rolled around, it was the game we had all been working so hard for. Knowing we were seniors, we knew it would be the end of the journey.
Hockey is a fast, exciting sport played by two teams on a sheet of ice called a rink. Each team has six players on the ice, one goalie, two defensemen, two wingers, and one center man.
Today, I’m not going to miss the game. I instinctively ran through the hallways as I 've done throughout every Friday. My hockey game is always on Friday we have a match against another AA team, sometimes we lose and sometimes we win but today’s the big game, I can’t be late. While running I took two immense steps one at a time down and out the stairwell. “ Not going to be late, Not going to be late.” I just repeated this phrase in my head over and over again as I dashed out the main entrance, nudged someone and squeezed my way through the automatic door.
For more than a century, hockey historians have found that precisely tracing the sports origin is not only a difficult task but, a virtual impossibility. Therefore I can only try to deduce for myself, from the records, claims, and accounts, which are available to me, when, where, and by whom the first ice hockey was played. I’ll also discuss the early problems and obstacles that the NHL encountered. Plus I will also tell a little bit about early equipment, along with early game play and ice conditions that players encountered. Lastly, the Stanley Cup, which is the most prized and oldest sports award of the NHL. It has been won many times, by many different teams. Ice hockey is traceable to games played on fields as far back as nearly 2500
