I Read the book Holes, written by Louis Sachar. The book is about how Stanley Yelnats gets sent to a camp for troubled teenagers and his experience there. Stanley is a teenage boy, hes was not a trouble maker, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The book takes place in the early 2000’s. So Stanley was accused of stealing a pair of cleats. But what really had happened was this boy named hector stole the shoes and threw them after her got scared and they then fell on Stanley and they cops found Stanley with the cleats.
So Stanley had the choice of going to jail or going to camp green lake, he chose camp green lake. Camp green lake is a place where troubled kids go and dig holes every day. So for the first few days he digs his hole a day, its not that easy. Later on that week Stanley meets this boy named “Zero”, the people in the camp called him zero because he wouldn't talk at all to them. Stanley and zero become good friends over the time. Stanley then receives a letter from his parents and he think zero is reading it but zero can't read, zero wanted to be taught to read. At first Stanley said no but zero said he would help him dig part of his hole everyday so he wouldn't be so tired to tutor him.

One day zero ran away from the camp, everyone then thought he was dead after 3 days. Stanley then gets the nerve to run away to and go look for zero. He end up finding zero and they walked around stuggling to survive in the dried up lake. They come across a big mountain shaped like a thumb. So then they climbed the mountain and they got really lucky because on top of that mountain were onions and water. Zero and Stanley stay there for a few nights. Zero tells Stanley something really important, which was that zero was the one who stole the shoes and threw them which means zero was hector the one who got Stanley in that
They go back to Philadelphia it appears to be ghost town. No one is anywhere to be seen when. They arrive at the coffee house they see that they’ve been robbed and mother and Eliza where gone. The next day Mattie and grandfather eat breakfast. Then mattie goes to market and finds it empty when she find herself being assaulted by a older woman she rushes home and doesn’t tell grandfather. She goes to sleep and wakes to two men breaking in one man starts messing with Grandfather sword and almost hits Mattie she screams and tries to run but one man catches her. He tries getting information out of her. but grandfather finds them he tries to shoot him but gets away he then starts punching Grandfather he closes his eyes them Mattie stabs the man in the shoulder he screamed in pain and finally ran
So, Stanley taught Zero the basics of the English language. One day, one of the camp members named Zigzag had enough of Zero digging Stanley’s hole. Zigzag gets into a fight with Stanley. Zero then jumps into action strangling Zigzag, nearly killing him. Mr. Pendanski quickly fires a pistol in the air, which gets them to stop. The Warden comes to sort things out. When the Warden finds out Stanley wasn’t digging his hole, she is furious and tells Stanley that he must dig his hole. Zero grabs a shovel and slams it into Mr. Pendanski’s face, causing him to go out cold. Zero runs away into the desert. A few days later, Stanley is worried about Zero. When Mr. Sir was giving the campers a water refill with the water truck, Stanley hijacks the truck and drives it away to search for Zero. Unfortunately, Stanley drives into a hole, causing the whole truck to be stuck. Stanley runs away from Camp Green Lake in search of Zero. Stanley finds Zero and they go to “Big Thumb”. They Pack up their things into backpacks and hop onto a freight train to chicago. When in chicago the boys meet a trucker named Sharon who drives them all the way to wyoming. Than they hid in the bottom luggage department of a bus on their way to the Tetons. When They reach the Tetons they make a little camp by a small secluded lake. An scary thing that happens is a Black Bear attacks their camp for the berries they picked. Then they get caught by a Forest Ranger and run into the woods. Where they meet Skeet. Skeet got his arm stuck under a boulder and the boys freed him. In return he showed them how to survive in the wilderness. He took them to the ranger station because he heard their mom was there looking for them. At the ranger station Bull is waiting for the boys so they don’t say anything and he doesn’t go to jail. In the Film Holes different filmic conventions are used to portray characters and construct atmosphere. The film is about a young boy named Stanley Yelnats who follows a journey like his great great great grandfather did. He was sent to Camp Green Lakes for a crime that he did not commit and when he arrived at camp he uncovered some of his family secrets. Techniques such as camera angles, sound effects and color constructs the characters and atmosphere in the film which creates the mood.These film codes are very important in the film as they help the viewer understand the story and conventions better.
When he gets to the school he goes to the gym to see all of the students at the school this year, and when he walks in he sees Chris immediately. Later that day Coach Fulton goes to the lady in charge of all of the student records, and finds out that Chris came from a high school in Indianapolis, but he is disappointed when he finds out that Chris didn’t put basketball as an extracurricular activity. So after about a week Coach Fulton decides to call Chris’s old coach in Indianapolis to see why Chris doesn’t play basketball. When he calls him he learns about Chris’s accident, and finds out that that is the reason that Chris doesn’t play basketball anymore. Chris’s accident was just that an accident where the player that got hurt was out of position, and when Chris was going for a rebound Chris hit him with his elbow in the eye socket. This left the player temporarily blind in that eye, but after surgery he was able to regain his eyesight. Lisa starts to make progress with Solomon when he says that he wants to get an outdoor pool. His parents tell him that if he still wants it in one month they will get it for him because they don 't have the money right now. Solomons grandma comes to visit one day and she says that she will pay for the pool if he promises to use it. He says he will and then two weeks later they have a pool. It takes about another week for him to get the courage to go outside and use it but when he finally doesn 't nobody is around so he calls Clark and Lisa. When they get to his house he is in his pool and they are really proud of him.

Whether its problems with family, friends or ourselves; we have some difficulties overcoming them. “Hole in My Life” by Jack Gantos is about Jack in his younger years wanting to write but also wanted to make money. He chose the money over his career and got himself into serious trouble. “My Friend Dahmer” by Derf Backderf is about a young boy, named Jeffrey Dahmer, who had trouble fitting it and making friends. With no one to turn to his dark twisted fantasies consumed him and made him do things he later on paid the price for. The novel begins with Stanley being wrongly accused of stealing a pair of sneakers owned by a famous baseball player. Due to his adversity, Stanley is sent to a juvenile detention facility ironically named Camp Green Lake. This camp resides in the middle of a desert, and is composed of disobedient kid who are forced to dig holes to“build character”. Stanley possess several Christlike traits, such as: his wounded and blistered hands from digging so many holes, the agony he possessed from dehydration and all of the physical labor he was subjected to, Stanley’s optimistic and self sacrificing character who risked death to save his friend Zero, Stanley’s patient and cordialness with other kids, (this trait is especially displayed when he is teaching his friend Zero to read) Stanley’s kindheartedly when he shared his sparing amounts of food and water with Zero, Stanley use of humble transportation due to his family's reduced budget, Stanley was last seen with the thieving kids of the camp and the thieving camp administrators, and finally,when Stanley returned to the camp, full of kids who committed several crimes and freed them from their grueling jobs of digging holes. The main character's name is Stanley Yelnats. At first, you see stanley as an alright kid who has made a bad decision stealing. “ I stole some sneakers” (pg 22). What Stanley does is to carry Zero up the "Thumb of God" mountain. They are looking for water and the rock formation gives them hope, so they decide to see what is behind that mountain. Zero of course is too weak to climb because he has been in the desert for three days, so that's why Stanley helps him. He isn't going to let his friend die out there. He is willing to do whatever he can to save him and to his surprise there is water on top of the mountain.

Although Stanley and Zero do not know it, Hector is the great- great-great-grandson of Madame Zeroni. Zero eventually runs away from camp and Stanley tries to save him so he follows after a few days. The two help each other to reach the top of a big mountain, which turns out to be Sam's old onion field. Because Zero is very weak, Stanley carries him up this mountain. They survive on onions for more than a week and then return to camp, planning to search for Kate Barlow's treasure in the hole where Stanley found the lipstick
