I am Lance Corporal Josiah Freeman. I live in Oklahoma City and the reason why I am sending this letter is because the number of homeless people in Oklahoma City is unacceptable and must be fixed. People should not have to live on the streets because it is unhealthy and can lead to mental health issues. The homeless shelters are constantly bombarded with hundreds of hungry and hopeless people every night. Seeing the streets flooded with homeless people has been a sore sight for Oklahoma City and has been for a long time. The city should build more homeless shelters to help people get back on their feet, because no one should have to live on the streets and feel like a second-class citizen. No one should have to live on the streets, it is not healthy, physically or emotionally. Being homeless can be very stressful and can lead to mental health issues causing people to make poor decisions to be able to survive. People will constantly get into some sort of trouble so they can be arrested and go to jail just so they can sleep in a bed or be given food because if the shelters are full the only other place that offers free food and a bed is the county jail. Just by providing a …show more content…
Homeless people have to wait in line all day for them to open so they can get a spot before they are too full. This can be a problem for many people because if the shelters are full they have to start looking for somewhere else to sleep which can be bad because anyone who lives in Oklahoma knows the weather can change in a drop of a hat and can put many people in desperate situations to find shelter. Such as breaking into someone’s car or an abandoned house and if they are caught they will most likely end up going to jail. One way to help with this problem is building more shelters to house people. Currently there are not enough shelters in Oklahoma and in order to reduce the number of homeless people in the State we need to add
Imagine: Losing everything, from your house to your loved one in a matter of months. Having to move from place to place but having nowhere to go and losing yourself all at once. Over 550,000 innocent people -including parents, kids, veterans, etc.- are homeless on any given day.
The U.S. government, middle, and upper-class citizens in the United States should come together and fund communities in large cities like Chicago in the next couple years to lower the amount of homeless people living on the city streets. In these communities they can build schools for those with children so they can learn while their parents work and build income. As well as providing two to three community hot meals for the families to eat. They can even build facilities where the homeless who struggle with addictions live and receive treatment such as counseling and inspirational speakers visit to share their testimonies.
The issue of homelessness has been called as one that is "highly ambiguous and intangible" (Neale, 1997, p.7). Wright defines the homeless a "diverse, heterogeneous lot. No single catch phrase or easy myth can possibly describe them all" (p.46)
The media: a universal instrument that tugs at our deepest and most sensitive thought processes. Yes, you heard correctly; and, here’s a news flash for you: these mass manipulators that reign over us are stopping at nothing, even so that the homeless community are being dragged into this opinion-filled arena.
Homelessness has become an evolving epidemic of our time, and the health implications associated with being homeless makes it that much worse. Homeless people are at major risk for premature death and a wide range of health problems such as HIV, skin blemishes, and much more. It is very difficult for homeless people to fix their health issues due to the difficulty of accessing health care possibly because of missing health cards, or simply because of the stigma placed on them when they enter a public facility. Whatever the problem may be that is forcing more people to become homeless, it must be solved, and quickly before our world turns into a travesty.
People drive or walk past a homeless person almost every day without thinking twice about the plight of that person or they may even unconsciously turn their heads the other way in disgust. Homelessness simply put, means without a home - therefore homelessness is an equal opportunity state that can happen to anyone. Even though we have seen some economic prosperity over the years, statistics show that the number of homeless remains very high. With this in mind, communities need to come together at the state, city, and individual level to come up with solutions to mitigate the spreading of this problem.
Every year, many homeless people will die in the extreme heat and cold of the Alabama seasons, unless those people are able to find proper shelter to keep themselves out of the dangerous temperatures. Having a safe home, where these men and women can live independently, will encourage them to continue working hard at the jobs they do and continue being responsible for the income they earn from working. If the city can help homeless people find a steady income, it would most likely keep many of them from committing crimes, like stealing, when they feel desperate and scared of not having what they need to survive. This would also probably help lower the crime rate in our
Three thousand, and eight hundred men, women, and children sleep on the cold streets of Portland Oregon. Homelessness has gone down 17% happily but went up another 10% the next year.
I cannot find in my sent box the message I thought I sent to you this morning so I am rewriting and trying it again.
I hope this message finds you in good health. As you know home and supplies are some of the most important necessities people need in life. Helping out individuals deprived of these necessities is a must for those with the power to do so. Today, I am contacting you on behalf on my team with a goal to build affordable houses for the people who are financially able to move out of the shelters and start living on their own. As we have made the intent to build a housing society for homeless people, achieving this goal is not so easy which is why we want your company, J.C. Penny to help us make this dream true. Accomplishing this goal will help to decrease the number of homeless in Dallas and also ensure that those who are ready to move into homes will no longer have to wait for available housing.
There is one federally funded program in which we will talk about later that helps homeless individuals get the care they need. There is a dire need for more programs that assist the homeless because the number one reason they are homeless is because they cannot afford housing. If they cannot afford this they probably will not be able to afford the necessities to live a healthy lifestyle. When youths and adolescents succumb to homelessness they are at a greater risk, because they do not have the resources an adult would. They have a disadvantage of employment opportunities and are a greater risk of not completing high school. Youths will lack the ability to receive health care, which will create problems in their overall health because they will not be able to receive the care they need in the instance of sickness, injury or access to medicines. There are countless reasons that adults succumb to being homeless. Some are that a job was lost, mental health is prevalent among them, substance abuse and spouse abuse. Adults who are experiencing homelessness have some of the same problems that youths do as well. An adult not being able to receive health care is very serious especially for older homeless adults. Sickness and serious health problems are more prevalent in older adults resulting in untimely death and the spreading of sicknesses and diseases. I have some establishments offering free haircuts to the homeless if they are preparing for an interview. I have also
47,725 or about 8% of the homeless population are veterans and 50% of the homeless people are over 50 years old in the U.S. Homelessness is an unsatisfactory issue that we as humans do not see the importance of the help they need. In our community, we take things for granted and not worry about the importance of helping others. The unfortunate people living in the streets have passed through difficult times and appreciate small or big things. Homeless is a person without a home, and therefore typically living on the streets. Some homeless people have become abusive of drugs, alcohol, and other different type of drugs. Homelessness is a major problem in our society. Homelessness contaminates our city, makes our city look dirty, and it is priority to fix this problem.
On the 9th of December of 2014, I attended a San Jose City Council meeting in the council chambers in the San Jose City Hall. The topic of discussion was the issue of affordable housing in San Jose. There are nearly 5,000 homeless people in San Jose. There are thousands more on waiting lists for affordable housing, some using more than 50 percent of their daily income for rent, or in danger of losing their homes. Homelessness impacts our community, our environment, and our homeless neighbors. Addressing the issue of homelessness is a constant battle between respecting the rights and also meeting the needs of the homeless individuals. This was continuously brought up during the City Council meeting. The members were discussing the
Lastly, one more thing the government can do to stop homeless from living on the streets is to open a place at night for them to just stay. Opening a place for homeless to come to at nights is a great thing to do. When winter months comes around, the days are going to be too cold for people to live out on the streets. Nobody can live out on the streets when the temperature is going to be below zero or close to zero. The government should start doing some of these ideas because one day it might be them that is homeless and don’t have any place to
People need to help the homeless families, the drug addicts, the alcoholics, and the mentally ill. They need to know that someone cares for them. Homeless teens are also a major problem; most homeless teens leave home because of abuse. Homeless teens are more likely to engage in sexual actives in exchange for things such as food, clothes, money, and etc. Some homeless teens become addict to drugs and other illegal substances. Decayed or missing teeth can hinder a teens self esteem. Poor oral health affects the health of the individual, but also hinders a teens attempt to improve his or her life circumstances. Homeless teens are at a greater risk of contracting AIDS, HIV, and other STDs. Homeless teen girls are more likely to become pregnant and far more likely to experience multiple pregnancies than housed young teen girls. Babies who are to homeless teens may develop much slower than housed babies. Children without a home are in or poor health more than other children. Homeless children experience mental health problems, anxiety, depression, and withdrawal. Homeless children don’t know what is going and they don’t understand why they are living on the streets or in homeless shelters. Many homeless kids would like to go to school but cant because they don’t have clean clothing and their hygiene is not so good. Many homeless kids face problems because they are homeless and often feel that no one cares. People should help the
