Homer’s Iliad verse “Ever to Excel” is one that demonstrates the importance of constantly pushing yourself for greater achievements, even when your current standing seems sufficient. Testing your limits does not simply entail joining a new group, or aimlessly trying to do as many things as possible. To surpass oneself demands structured and unwavering determination. For most, this simple realisation comes too late, but in my opinion, a student’s biggest sin is to not plan ahead, and utilise every opportunity that presents itself, so that they can develop and test their capabilities.

I did not let these activities distract me from my university courses, and always made time to work on them thoroughly. My determination was rewarded, with an A average and a Top 5 score for the Bloomberg Aptitude Test for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. I believe this was achieved primarily due to my organisation.
Therefore, the salient question that students should ask themselves is clear.
What are your priorities? Is it to realise your full potential or is it something else?
The only thing that experience has shown me is that without diligence and perseverance, nobody can be successful in the long run. Sometimes, people will be born into a richer family or will be more talented than you, but adversity is the finest blessing in disguise. The US Navy SEALS say that when you say you cannot keep pushing, you have only realised 40% of your potential. From waking up at 5:00 am in the morning to go lift with my track team, and sleeping less than 5 hours each day to handle more than double the normal number of courses in high school, I have always believed that this 40% rule is true, and will continue to do
