Insert your responses under EACH question. HOMEWORK #2 – Showing Integrity, Respect & Empathy DUE Thursday, 2/4 1. Write about a conflict you have recently experienced – a situation in which you had a truly difficult choice to make. (Do not write about something insignificant.) This can be a situation in which you either did or did not maintain your integrity. Earlier this year a girl on the school volleyball team would go out of her way to exclude me in any way she could. Later on in the year we ended playing for the same club but on two separate teams so I did not see her very often. Last month for her birthday she took everyone who went to Fieldston accept for me out after practice. Due to this, I did not invite her to my birthday party this month. In response to this she requested a formal …show more content…
a. What specific challenge were you facing? What exactly was the conflict? What underlying problems (e.g. miscommunication, inaccurate or incomplete information, stress overload, unclear or unfair expectations, different points of view, strong feelings, lack of confidence, broken trust, peer pressure, misuse of power / authority) may have brought on the conflict - from both sides of the conflict? In this situation I faced the challenge of expressing or not expressing my emotions to someone I did not want to. There were several underlying problems including unfair expectations, lunacy as well as innocentness. b. What did you risk in making the decision(s) you did? One thing I risked in making the decisions I did was my position on the social hierarchy wich is something I do not care about. I also risked poorly demonstrating my integrity. c. Whether we like it or not, conflict is a part of everyday lives. It can happen to anyone, from your friends to your family.
I have taken the same risks every other person has taken. I have driven a car, got on an airplane, crossed the street, trust people I barely know; all risks that we have taken daily. We put our hearts, lives, and safety at risk all the time. Getting into relationships, telling people secrets but, the risk I took was more of a moral and personal risk. The last three months I have decided to volunteer at the Orlando Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
In life there are times when we suffer a conflict between doing what we “ought to do” and what we “want to do”. In the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe there is a lot of examples of this. There is also many conflicts in my life and everyone's life based on these conflicts. The two examples of this I am going to use are me going to my dad's for the weekend or going to my friends house, and Okonkwo beating his wife during the peace festival.

The conflict that I will use here is the conflict between me and my parent and in particular with my dad. This was sue to the fact that I had to move to live with my mum during the initial years of my college life yet there before I had been living with my dad.

Morals, character, integrity, what do these words mean….actually, the question is, do you have them. A man named Dwight Moody once said, “Character is what you are in the dark.” You cannot see your morals, character, or integrity, these are only shown as your values. Someone could only show their own values, which are very important to themselves and everyone else. Integrity is the firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values. The way you show your integrity, character, and morals or how they are effect you in either a negative or positive way. There are many causes to how your values are. So as you know, integrity is very important and it is important to have it.
The need for trust between 2 participants is a potential threat since there is no independent verification process.
Integrity and civility tend to relate between meanings. Integrity is the being honest with strong morals. An example of this is returning a dollar to a person instead of keeping it for yourself. People who have integrity are easy to trust therefore easy to create long-lasting relations with. Civility is formal politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech. This is just a respectful way to speak or treat to someone. An example of this is simply greeting someone with a polite handshake. The relationship between these is that civility plays along with integrity. If you have good morals than you are respectful to people, as the saying goes treat others the same way you want to be treated.
In reviewing your personal and professional values, what surprised you, and what helped you affirm your beliefs?

A resilient leader has the ability to influence people to willingly put forth effort to achieve a goal, which is at the core of being a leader. The most effective leaders recognize how to influence subordinates while moving forward with an effective plan that will benefit all involved. The three most important concepts from Chapter 3 and 4 are integrity, courage, and wisdom.
As established by the administration of the University, the control environment sets the tone of the University and influences the control awareness of its persons. Our emotions inevitably affect important conversations, they seep into our language, or worse, they explode into it. Managing the emotional dimension of conflict has little to do with discussing our feelings and everything to do with acknowledging what is important. Acknowledgement of our feelings – our hopes and fears, and an invitation to others to acknowledge theirs, can only humanize the conversation.
