In the beginning of this video when he was discussing the beliefs that make us stupid I was thinking to myself how many of those that I believed were true. I am a person that often thinking learning should be fast, but I have often found out that isn’t the case at all. So I plan to use this ideas a way for me to take a step back to really evaluate how long a homework assignment is going to realistically take me. I think when I set these time I would rather plan for too much time then not have enough and rush to finish the assignment causing me to leave the quality out of it. I will also keep up with my reading assignment, because once I fall behind and rush to finish the chapter right before the test it will provide no benefit to me instead …show more content…
After that I decided I needed to focus more on the content and how to apply the terms rather than just memorizing the definitions. By not doing so well on my first test it really showed me that I need to take into account that I am here at college to learn through ways I will remember not definitions that I will forget once the test is over. During the video the idea that I need to work the most on is my metacognition. There have been several tests that I have taken in the past that I believe I am ready for. I will either find out that isn’t true when I get my test or when I get my grade. When I don’t do well it put me in a bad mood and makes me feel sorry for myself. In reality I am the only one that can change my metacognition. I thought my metacognition was on track, but I have found out that it isn’t, so I will be trying to improve that for my next test. My biggest issue with this is often that I am tired of studying for a test, so I will just say I know it and then I can be done studying. When studying for my next test I plan to start studying a few days before it instead of cramming the night before so then I can evaluate my metacognition the night before the test to see how much of the information I really
After reading the article I want to change my study habits some. My goal is to implement the strategy previously mentioned. I think self-testing myself as I read will allow for much more long term absorption of material. In addition, to increasing the skills in how I read I want to learn to create study questions for myself. When study guides are not provided it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the idea of exams. However, we can train ourselves to recognize important information and create our own study questions to be able to answer before exam day. Self-testing and self-created study questions are going to my new approach at studying.

After seeing the video of professor Chew’s talk on “How to get the most out of studying, part 1” I realize the mistakes I’m doing when I’m studying. I been doing the same mistake since high school and now I know why I was struggling so much in some classes. Because I was multitasking most of the time when I was studying and being over confidents about knowing the topic I wasted a lot of time learning.

When beginning any writing assignment, it can be a rocky start. It involves critical thinking and applying to your writing. First, you have to be skilled and be prepared in writing to get where you want to be. Therefore, my writing was complicated until I got into writing better than before. There comes a time when you have to start from scratch and work until you earn what you deserved. It was complicated to figure out what to write about, and to be precise. At first, I had adequate writing skills, but as I progressed through middle and high school, I have made vast improvements in my writing.
The concept of course 15 module eight that I found most important is active listening. According to course 15 active listening consists of several techniques. I need time to complete my work so I set a schedule for everything since I thrive on a well-organized life. During week one, my initial definition of learning was listening to an instruction, studying and then rehearsing that information in my mind, or categorizing it in a way so I could remember most of what was taught in the course. The class has opened a new dimension for me in the learning process; from understanding how I process information to deciphering which learning processes I use in intentional learning or metacognition. Understanding my learning patterns form dynamic learning relationship is a key element to my view of how and why I process the learning experience, even relating it to every day life.
This week while at my internship at Frontenac High I attended the calculus class. Mr. Buzard had to leave halfway through class to attend interviews for the counselor position that is available. There was a new substitute who I had not yet met that covered his class.

Though there are different categories, we often fine tune them to our own abilities. By examining our traits and tendencies we create a clearer understanding of how we process and learn information. With careful review, I have developed a specific analysis of my learning characteristics, including an evaluation of skill levels. Based on what I have recently learned and know from experience, I have also devised a structured plan for improvement of time management and study skills.
