Homicide Detective V.S. Criminologist
When you see the shows such as Homicide Hunter or Killer Instincts many times my mom and I try to figure out who is the murder. Most of the time my prediction is right because of the details my mom misses, and putting together all the clues. From then on I realised I had a gift, even if it was I was just watching television show. That is what sparked my interest the criminal justice area. I have contemplated the career choices that would best fit my interest leaving me with Homicide Detective and Criminologist. While both careers deal with criminal justice they differ greatly in the type of work environment, pay, skills/education. In both careers there

From day to day it may be different but typical the homicide detective will be called to a investigation scene. First off when you get to the scene I will assess and manage the scene. This means examining the victim for clues. Next I will document the scene I would complete a walk through, making sure I do not disturb any evidence. Also making permanent record of the scene, it is important to do this before moving anything. After that I will photography or videotape the scene conducting a thorough search; make a rough sketch; dust for fingerprints; identify, document, and collect all fluids and fibers: and control evidence to maintain its integrity. Then canvass the area to locate witnesses. This step is critical because more homicides are solved by canvassing than any other method. Finally identify suspects, proper handling suspects leads to a successful prosecution. But remember that all suspects are still entitled to their rights C. The excitement of going to work each day and not knowing what is in store for you is very interesting. This job may be asking a lot even in an investigation but the adrenaline is very …show more content…
My mom has always supported my life choices even if she does not condone them. But know comes the time in my life where I need to make choice and decisions on my own. As much as I hate to say it I'm growing up and my parents are not always going to be there to help me through my life. Even though both careers are a passion I have dealing with critical thinking and a creative mind, I have decided I want to be a homicide detective. Even though a criminologist is a wonderful job in dealing with psychology it did not have enough substance to keep me happy in my job for the rest if my life. Now that I have made a very important choice in my life by myself I feel as more challenges come my way I will handle them by myself, It’s time to grow up and make my own life
Serial killers are probably one of the most horrified subjects ever. I mean could you imagine being killed? By a person who sees you’ve done something so wrong to them and you may not even know their name? Maybe they’re just crazy and you’re their innocent victim, or maybe it’s all a part of revenge. The thoughts running through the killer and victims heads, are unrevealed. The gruesome facts, are stomach turning. The way the killers or survivors describe what happened, would make you very paranoid. Don’t say it wouldn’t ever happen in your home- town. Because it has, it has happened right here in Arkansas.
Murder Inc Roaring 20s When most of America thinks about the roaring 20s they think about racism going on or civil rights starting to change the America. That’s mostly how Americans think anyway because they don’t bother to focus on the past history of life they are to stuck up in the 21st century. During the roaring 20s Murder Incorporated made a huge mark at a that time. Before it can be read on Murder Inc there were a lot of slang going on at this time.
According to FBI.gov, 1,165,383 violent crimes were reported in 2014, and 1.2% of the crimes are defined as murders. While that may seem like a small number, the same 1.2% included the 1,697 murders which took place in the state of California (United States). The murders would then have to be solved by homicide detectives, and depending on the state where the investigators work they may have to deal with murder everyday. The detectives solve the murders to bring justice to the victims and the victim's family and friends. While being a homicide investigator, one has to learn many basic concepts such as understanding the psychopaths mindset, the concept of thinking outside the box, dealing with serial killers and figuring out which style of interrogation
Coroners, originated in England during the early 10th century and transitioned over to the the United States in the 1600’s. Coroners were not required to have any medical training and were appointed by the King and Queen, up until the year 1888, when they would be appointed by local committees. In the United States a coroner would serve two to four years as an official, their duties included investigating the cause of death of an invidduials who is believed to have died by the hands of another or from an accident (U.S. National Library of Medicine, 2014). In attrition to investigations made by the coroner, they had the responsibility to , assess the assets and wealth of the deceased, as well as tax collection (James, Nordby, & Bell, 2014)
The history of a Medical examiners origin started in France and Scotland and was brought to the United States in the late 1800s. A medical examiner is an appointed medically qualified officer whose duty is to investigate deaths and bodily injuries that occur under unusual or suspicious circumstances, to perform post-mortems, and sometimes to initiate inquests. The medical examiner (ME) is the person in charge of the forensic investigation of a death that has occurred in his or her area of jurisdiction, whether it is a homicide, suicide, accident, or other suspicious death. He or she has a number of tasks to carry out, chief of which is the determination of the cause and manner of the death through performing an autopsy . The medical examiner also takes charge of the analysis of evidence , works with the police investigating the scene of the crime, and presents evidence in court. In short, the ME is involved in both the medical and legal sides of a forensic investigation.
The career I am interested and focused in is a crime scene technician. A crime scene technician is a person who is trained to collect evidence at crime scenes for law enforcement agencies such as state and local police departments and federal law enforcements agencies. Crime scenes may vary from a home being robbed to a murder. When a crime scene technician is called to a scene they may have to do the following: • process fingerprints • take photographs of the crime scene • collect and list evidence at the scene such as weapons, blood, hair, etc. • must make notes on all evidence gathered so it can be taken to the crime lab for further analyzation

There is a really cool new thing in the town, called the murder mystery weekend. Over the whole weekend you are going to get more and more information. You can also sleep and eat there. It is a very cool idea and really good for young people cause they love it to solve a mystery.
The cities in this countdown are based on the population size of each region and the number of crimes that take place. Each individual crime is tallied per thousand residents. Violent and property crimes including burglary, homicide, rape, armed robbery, assault, and vehicle theft are all accounted for in this study. Thanks to the Neighborhood Scouts and law enforcement for providing the information for the safest cities to live in the United States.
Have you ever wondered how police officers know who to arrest for a crime? Well in order to catch criminals, evidence and witnesses must be gathered. Those who perform these tasks are known as detectives. Detectives are also known as criminal investigators. I have always liked solving mysteries and, that is exactly what detectives or criminal investigators do. I was inspired to pursue this career by the television series “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit”. I watch this series a lot and, the show gave me a televised perception of what the career might be like. There are many risks when considering becoming a detective. However, the benefits and end results outweigh the risks and disadvantages of becoming a detective.
Understanding the definition and core roles of a homicide detective is very important. According to Wise Geek “A homicide detective investigates murders and tries to solve many of the mysteries surrounding unexplained deaths” (D. Jeffress, J.T. Gale, 2018, Wise GEEK). Life as a homicide detective can be tough because it’s about your life being on the line every single day. To be a Homicide detective, you must pass an interview, work in a certain department and love what you do. Have you done an interview before?
This paper deals with explaining from an analytical view, what homicide is, first, by looking at who the homicide offender and who the homicide victim is. Second, the commonality of homicide will be analyzed through quantitative and qualitative aspects. Third, homicidal patterns will be reviewed by patterns prevalent within the United States and Pennsylvania. Finally, an analysis will be provided of the most common homicidal patterns in the United States and Pennsylvania.
Homicide detectives only investigate and focus on Homicides. College educations are recommended but not required. Murder detectives collect evidence like fingerprints DNA and stuff like that. They interview suspects and witnesses who may have information for the murder. There are two types of crime scenes. The primary crime scene is where the crime scene is where the crime actually occurred. for example if a bank get robs that is the primary scene and the getaway car and the lair are the secondary scene. primary crime scenes are usually more helpful. while secondary scenes sometimes are the only thing that criminologists have to work with. For example this may be where a serial killer dumps a body. So investigators may not be able to prove where the actual murder occurred. which means they only find evidence at the secondary scene which could lead to the primary scene or prove that is where the crime happened. For example you may find a hair or a fiber at a scene that could lead to a specific place or specific shirt or carpet. Overall investigators prefer primary scenes because it’s
