Homosexuality has, in recent times, asserted the position of being a topic of much heated debate. Simple opinion has divided the line between many and summed up the factions of those that stand for traditional values and those who take a progressive stance with civil rights. While the nation has become a buzz of opinions and perspectives, many arguments that have been made have been left off of a leash unchecked. Ultimately, there is nothing inherently wrong with homosexuality, and despite even the best arguments made against the principle, little carry any weight. Many people look at homosexuals and see people that they are uncomfortable with and jump to irrational conclusions, claiming that the concept is unnatural or immoral. A simple argument can be made that homosexuals cannot reproduce, and therefore should be expelled from any kind of societal recognition. However, what concisely makes the inability to reproduce a negative factor in homosexuality? The inability to procreate may stem the privilege to produce a child between a couple; however, it creates the possibility of adoption. Thus, it would serve to both take a child out of a foster home, making one such place less crowded and taking less a toll on the inhabitants that reside there, as well as providing a loving home for a child whom may need one. Inherently, a large number of people who do not reproduce may stall, if not solve, the growing issue of world over-population, as less resources would be used to
The movement of the gay and lesbian population in the United States is one that has been in progress since the early 1900s, and is still facing overwhelming controversy and backlash today. The push for gay liberation in a country founded on Christian morals and beliefs has subsequently led to struggles over equality of marriage, adoption, jobs, and healthcare. One side of the controversy argues that every individual deserves the same rights, while the opposing mindset argues that being homosexual puts you into a group of people that is different, and will therefore be treated as such.
The way people ultimately view homosexuality, whether in religion, politics or modern popular culture, is all determined by traditional or changing points of view. This essay will discuss mainly liberal and conservative Christian interpretations of the Bible, including many verses that may support or condemn homosexuality. It will also discuss the political views and laws against same-sex marriage and the social activism in the homosexual community. This is all about view points and it has many conflicting views and arguments.
In conclusion, the augment for gay adoption is far stronger and far better supported than those opposed. One must admit that sexual orientation is fundamentally irrelevant to a person’s capacity to be a good parent. The opposition to gay and lesbian adoption has failed to support its
Many people from the United States hold the belief that being gay is something that has always been considered to be okay. They believe that it is just a given. Despite people’s current beliefs on the subject, for a very long time, it was something that was widely believed to be taboo. In the past, people were imprisoned due to their sexuality. Regardless, throughout the decades, people have pushed for the widespread acceptance of people who are part of the LGBT community. Today, homophobia still exists in some parts of the United States, but we have come a long way since the early 1900s.
It was not until the twelfth century that homosexuality started to be condemned. This condemnation proved to live through then until now. Due to the fact that America incorporated these early views into its early laws, even the most bland of today's sex acts were seen as unlawful (“Homosexuality and Mental Health”). Since then, these laws have changed, however, there is still a primarily negative connotation on homosexuals when coming from a church or legal standpoint concerning the masses of America.
According to an opinion widely held, homosexuality is said to be freer today than ever before. It is present and visible everywhere: in the street, in the newspapers, on television, at the movies. It is even supposedly completely accepted, judging by the recent legislative advances made in many countries for the recognition of same sex couples. Certainly, some work remains necessary in order to eradicate the last vestiges of discrimination. But with changing public opinion, it will only be, according to some people, a matter of time, the time needed for a movement begun many decades earlier to achieve its goals.
Many people from older generations argue that same sex parenting is an abomination resisting any other insight into what is truly best for children. But it is true that hundreds of thousands of children are placed in foster care awaiting their forever families, and these children should not be denied a permanent family because of narrow mindedness. It does not take a scientist to figure that two people of the same sexual orientation cannot biologically conceive a child on their own; therefore adoption is the only option homosexuals have. While adoption
Another argument against homosexuals is that it is harmful to society through the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STD), by denying population growth and how it harms our youth. The first issue is addressed by simple process of elimination if homosexual males are at the highest risk of getting an STD and lesbian women at the lowest risk. Than Corvino is able to challenge the argument by concluding that if you are only choosing a partner based on risk of disease than women should only be with other women as the risk is the lowest. However most people do not chose a partner based on these principles. As for the issue of not having sex for only procreation purposes is absurd. Even the Catholic church prohibits sex during pregnancy and for pleasure
Recently a study at Australia´s University of Melbourne determined that in terms of emotional and physical health children of homosexual parents are the same as heterosexual parents. In some cases, these children, even seem to be happier and healthier, because gay couples tend to create partnerships and households based on quality. There is some evidence in fact, that show gay couples make better parents. Thousands of children still need loving homes to be placed into and homosexual parents are an option that is rarely considered. Same-sex adoption does not in fact hurt these children. It is when these children are discriminated against by others for having same-sex parents. In the end it does not matter what the parent´s sexuality is. What
Differences within people are what make each individual unique, and accepting differences is mandatory to live in a peaceful environment. Homosexuality is a widespread phenomenon that has been around for centuries. Discrimination against homosexuals is a critical issue that is affecting many lives around the world. Homosexuality is prohibited in some countries while it is encouraged and protected in others. Homosexuality is observed in the animal kingdom in a large umber of species, thus it can be concluded that it is a natural phenomenon and not a human deviation off nature. Some cultures accept and embrace homosexuality, while others are strictly against it; the cultures that are
There are plenty of disagreements in the United States about what is moral and what is immoral. Some people believe raising children absent of religion is immoral, yet others who do not practice any religion can adopt children and be foster parents. Why should this stop gay people from being adoptive a child? Drinking alcohol could be consider an immoral act, but it does not stop anyone from being evaluated as a foster parent, adoption should not be based on anybody’s sexual orientation. If we remove all the people who could be considered immoral, we will be left with almost no parents to adopt children and provide foster care. Most of us agree that it is not right to leave children without a home when there are plenty of qualified loving parents waiting to raise them. If heterosexual couples can raise children, gay couples should be given the change to do so too. (J. Michael Bailey, Bobrow, Wolfe & Mikach.
Homosexuality is a topic that has gained much interest in the past few decades. It seems as each year passes, more and more acceptance of this lifestyle come into light. However, when it comes to homosexuals wanting to create a family, a problem is created. In some states homosexuality is accepted and embraced, which enables this group to adopt a child as if they were heterosexual. There are many levels of argument to this topic to be addressed. Some believe that gay adoption should be legalized nation-wide, while others believe it should be banned everywhere. There are some strong opinions as to why this
Gay parents are facing discrimination because of their sexual orientation. Twenty-two states currently allow single gays to adopt and 21 states currently allow gay and lesbian couples to adopt in the U.S. (Mallon, 2007, p. 6). The ability of gay couples to rear a child should not be denied only because they are gay. Homosexuals may be looked down upon by society, but they still are humans and have morals. These morals they possess, may influence a child more than those morals taught to a child with heterosexual parents. All over the world, children suffer in families consisting of alcoholics, drug abusers, and sexual abusers (Powell, 2007, p.1). It is not possible that these environments are safer than what would be provided by homosexual
When a man and a woman engage in unprotected sexual intercourse, the end result tends to be life, as a child is born nine months later. Only once a man’s sperm reaches the eggs of a woman is this possible. Clearly, life and the existence of the human species as a whole is the product of sex between a man and a woman. The norm of reproduction then, is the aforementioned union between man and woman in heterosexual intercourse. Heterosexuality is viewed as the norm of most societies. This norm creates controversy regarding homosexuality, as it [homosexualism] is considered deviant and against societal norms. The topic of homosexuality is important and worth further investigation because it is surrounded by controversial issues
The realization of the homosexuality in the modern western world as a cultural, sexual and a social category has been a result of complex power relations that surround sexuality and gender. The acceptance of homosexuality in the society has met its fair share of resistance and skepticism. The view that homosexuality can be in the same league as heterosexual has led it to be viewed as a normal behavioral and moral standard (Gallagher & Baker, 2006). Inasmuch as the skeptics may not want to accept the existence of homosexuality studies show that the habit is rampant today with many gay people coming out in the open. Of interest is the political acceptance of homosexuality with passing gay rights so that it can be recognized by law. This move has given homosexuals the ability to engage in legal entities like marriage (Gallagher & Baker, 2006).
